A lot of people think greyhounds are the fastest but Magyar agar's (Hungarian greyhounds not greyhounds) are faster, and are almost as fast as a horse ( I know there are more than one sub species of horse but in general is what I'm talking about). They are the same speed of the lower average speed of a cheetah.

@@Idly89 First there is no actual evidence that cheetahs run over 55 mph which was verified with GPS collar in the wild and only for a very brief time. The fastest dog ever clicked was a saluki at close to 43 mph.

Kanni, chippiparai are well known Tamilnadu dog breeds, which can run 60km/h.

So, in real, a whippet would outrun any other none-sighthound-breed incl. JRT, Viszla, Dalmatian easily. There is a reason, why they are running races and not other breeds.

I don’t know where do you get your information but check European trackrecords of racing dogs.. a whippet race 21.5 some go under 20.80 seconds over 350 meter while a Afghaan 24.5 and Saluki 24.2.. bad video because you Miss they galgo espanol and Magyar agar
Most of those times in the video are very questionable...not verified. The Saluki time you mention comes out to 32.3 mph, which is pretty average, but I have much faster times for saluki. A dog named Seafleet Operetta "Mecca" ran 240 meters in 14.70 seconds, or 36.5 mph. She also ran 18.18 seconds over 280 meters, or 34.45 mph. A Saluki named Muluki Aurora ran 530 meters in 34.55 seconds, or 34.3 mph. These figures came from a Saluki Derby at Wembley Stadium, England, run many years ago. I have no records of Afghans running faster than 31 mph myself. The 21.5 seconds you mention for whippets (36.4 mph) matches up to some of the figures I have seen, but I haven't seen documented whippet races for 20.80 over 350 meters, so I assume they must be uncommon?

As I have said many times, Greyhounds have more stamina than Cheetah.
Therefore, when the Cheetah loses its breath, the Greyhound will still have energy and possibly even overtake the Cheetah. It’s common sense. Research it if you don’t believe me. Cheetahs are technically the fastest running animal, but Greyhounds are right up next to them with speed and there’s not a huge gap between them.

It depends on the individual dog. From all I've seen the overall fastest dog on straight courses is the greyhound. The second is the Viszla (only a hall mph behind the greyhound. These races obviously, like people, depends on the individual dog. I'm telling u the results from well known individual fast dogs. They also did a "trail" where they had twists and turns and the Viszla won by a lot. In my humble opinion the Viszla should always be thought of as the fastest, most athletic dog breed. They are amazing at jumping and overall athleticism.

there is a greyhound on record that ran 50.5mph and this was after he retired from racing. I think 45 is average for the breed
I agree Kevin- They clock them at the first sprint down the track with a radar gun, this is very accurate. But on live game they sometimes go faster than 45. Whippets are also measured accurately since they race a simple 200 yard straight sprint. Over this distance they can cover it in around 10 to 11 seconds.
This averages out to 40 MPH over the race so they are moving at 42- 43 mph top speed. But after this the other sight hounds are down around 35 -37 mph. THere are really only 2 breeds that are fast sprinters.
The others would win in longer races but are slower. i have raced fast whippets against greyhounds many times and the result is always the same. The whippets cannot keep up, period. Even at the 100 yard mark they are behind the greyhounds.

I have a deep connection with two of my street dogs and I saw them run after something so fast one night, it was unbelievable.

@@allanjensen125 what people fail to understand is that some breeds run as fast as they "need to run".... There were two huge greyhounds that used to go to the dog beach. They would all play with a toy. One would take it and run...while the others chased it. The Viszla ALWAYS caught both greyhound dogs while the greyhounds NEVER CAUGHT the Vizsla. It's very similar to football players. I played 17 years... there were always Defensive Backs who would time at 4.7 in the 40 but on game day, on the field nobody could ever outrun them. It's called "game speed". From my experience the Vizsla runs as fast as is required!!! Many top 10 fastest dog breed videos have the Viszla #2 behind the greyhound. Only 1km/hour slower. Also EVERY INDIVIDUAL DOG HAS ITS OWN SPEED!!! Just like people!!!

@@allanjensen125 my large male Viszla ran circles around several large greyhounds. The Viszla was clocked only 1km/h slower on a straight away. As I've said...I've owned just about 40 different breeds NO DOG IVE EVER OWNED CAN LITERALLY RUN AS FAST AS IT NEEDS TO RUN. I saw mine jump a 6 foot fence to catch a squirrel in mid-jump!!! There's no breed like a Vizsla. Own one and I promise you you'll feel the same way. Peace.

When you put 2 animals at race, since they are so fast and they are living organisms and not machines, the distance should be maximum 1km . A greyhound will win if the distance is longer cuz he has more stamina and his body does NOT over heat so quick to the point of collapsing! But in short distances no animal on Earth can reach 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds except the cheetah.

I eat meat everyday, so I can’t much blame the cheetah for his carnivorous ways …

So…… you don’t feel sad at all when you are driving along and you see poor little chickens stuck inside tiny cages on their way to be killed for the meat after a long, hard life of waiting for the day of their tragic death and not being able to run around and get the chance to live a healthy life like every animal - wild or domesticated- should?
Greyhounds can't run as fast, but can run for 10 times longer than a Cheetah..
I came here to watch which dog is the fastest only to end up reading the comments people debating over the top speed of certain animals. The cheetah must be thankful it doesn't know there are dogs faster than it short or long distance according to some.
You haven’t considered the Indian hounds, Mudhol, Chippiparai, Rajapalayam are much faster than many dogs in this list
some scientist researchers have clocked cheetahs doing 90, and they could not believe their radars.
Are those the same scientist researchers that have clocked trees doing 40 mph ??

@@kingkongstrong3633 - Yeah, but Bolt is like 1-1.5 mph faster (top speed) than his competition, the magnitude of which is quite amazing. A cheetah doing 90 is like 20 mph faster than its competition. That’s outlandish, and I just don’t see it happening … Sounds to me like someone is doing some major-league embellishing, there.
@@sking2173 they do 70. That seems outlandish for any animal. I'm sure a big cheetah with genetic freak like structure can do atleast 80.
So from what I've red in comments, in terms of acceleration, dogs are very close to cheetahs, but at long distance, they aren't a match for them as cheetahs constantly continue to speed up while the fastest dog can't pass the 45 limit bar.
That is an average.
Many dogs can surpass 45mph.
Maybe even at max 60mph.
@@jimmitron I heard so as well watching flyball dog competitions. But still I don’t think they can outspeed a wild cheetah at full speed tho, at least on same level of training. I saw some video about chinese scientific agency which made artificial dogs with hyper developed muscles that are op in terms of speed and power. They looked like monstrous machos. Maybe these would make good running competition against cheetahs.
@@mathieud1256 Dogs would definitely not win in a running race if both the cheetah and the dog had the same amount of training but if the cheetah was slower than usual and it was the fastest dog breed and the individual dog was faster than normal for its breed than the dog would win.

A Cheetah can finish a 100 metre dash in 5.95 seconds and a Greyhound can do the same only in 5.33 seconds.
