Wow!! Good growth on my aquaponic potatoes:) I can't wait to see how they turn out!
I am watching your problems and progress... Intently... With spudds one needs to top fill as the plants grow (I thought)))??? At least the ones in captivity... Hey we're still learning right?? Out in the fields of Idaho they just gro potato's under ground so who knows ... I like what your doing looks pretty cool .. I'd love to show you photos of the experiment I did a couple of years ago in Calif .. I'm in North Central Phoenix AZ now ... We did greens and tomato's with blue channel catfish 86 of them feeding the system all in an 8 person jacuzzi it was a total hoot ... Keep us posted I really want to see how this turns out ... Thanks I'll send some photos if your interested..ed
With AP systems I have found that roots always follow the nutrients. With the water flooding and draining they have nutrients around them constantly so they do not have to reach too much. I think this gives them the ability to push down but more so push out the root systems which I’m hoping means no mounding. If you are on Facebook I would love to see all your photos. I have a group that has over 15,000 members. Facebook.com/groups/homefarmideas
So close to 100k keep it up!!!
Thanks for noticing John! I think UA-cam is supposed to send me some sort of silver play button or something when I reach 100k😎👍🏼
Awesome stuff Matt.
Thank you:) Just having fun!
@@homefarmideas looks more than fun when you get that crop, I rally think you may have hit on something
@@MrPilcher1 lets see what happens:)
Ducks are something they are bringing back in different countries. (What SPI Latino 2 suggested) also on your Dutch Bucket Update I alluded to the natural pesticide spray.
How long does the grow area get water & how many times per day? Looking good.
It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to fill up then drain. It takes about 2 to 4 minutes to drain. I have it running like this all day long. Everything is looking good and thank you for noticing. I dug down a little bit on one of the plants and noticed the potato already:) We will see how this goes!
I see...I think.. so it continually fills or drains?
Thanks for replying...
It constantly fills up and it constantly drains. Basically the water level goes up slowly, the bell siphon the bed flushes the water, the water drains quickly and the cycle continues.
Home Farm Ideas nice..thanks again.
I would introduce a duck or two into the system to fix the bug problem
How do you add the kelp? Do you mix it into the clay bed or the fish water? It doesn’t dissolve...
Kelp contains salt and could produce to much nitrogen which would resit in too much foliage
I got kelp meal powder and it does dissolve:) I just add it to my sump tank.
@@homefarmideas powder might be OK but here we get kelp wash up on beaches and that s extremely salty
You don’t add that. The kelp I get is processed and washed to lose a lot of the salts.
@@homefarmideas in New Zealand they bury it in their soil gardens the Maoris have done it for centuries
Looks to be a magnesium deficiency
Hmm
Looking a little closer the brown spots are molybdenum. Is your PH stable and around 6.5?
It has been a little unstable. I have been combating it though and I think things should be fine:)
@@chuckwagon7171 I have to disagree, the necrotic spots look to me more like insect damage.
Well get the magnifying glass out and see if there is any eggs or chomp marks. If not I know potatoes are very heavy feeders so might be time to separate from the fish tank once a week and feed heavy till they are done. Couple hrs of heavy feed then drain and reintroduce back to your fishies. Works great for tomatoes and peppers
Could that be blight? Like a fungus? I had basil plants outside in dirt and they all got that.....had to get rid of them all. I think it was systemic in the plant
I was thinking it might be as well but as time has gone on since I made the video it looks like things are good again.
