As president Nelson Has admonished us to learn more to "hear him" , these videos are helping me to do that very thing. I'm so very grateful for your time and talents and study and preparation and work to produce these videos. For I do certainly hear him as I watch and learn here through your gift of teaching the scriptures of the Book of Mormon. I sincerely appreciate and thank you.
Thank you so much for this beautifully in depth, spiritually strengthening message. You have been like Moroni to me this day. Your messages from the sacred words of God have opened my heart to know how God looks upon my soul. I am in the right place at the right time. The things I am doing are fighting like unto Moroni even though I have a quiet strength, a quiet wisdom from my maintenance of the sacred word of God. I quietly, strongly, go forward each day, teaching, guiding those in my care, to the knowledge of who God is, and how He cares for us and what He so wants us, as His children to do, to be safe and protected now, and to come Home to Him in the end. Thank you for this great awakening in my heart!🥰
Thank you so much for these insightful scripture based lessons each week! I am learning sooo much. I appreciate all your hard work and your devotion in helping me understand the scriptures better and your great heart in teaching me each week. Many, many, many thanks!!!!! 💖🙏😊
Brother Halverson, thank you so much for making the scriptures come alive for me. You are a remarkable teacher..... Sister Peach....formerly in Tennessee...now in Texas!
I so appreciate these lessons. As I listen I underline your highlighted words and phrases. I then write them in a journal. So much information. As a "heads up" at the 20:34 twenty minute and 34 second mark when you post a list of "the cause" 58:16 is located in 60:16, 58:28 islocated in 60:28, and lastly 58:30 is located in 60:30. Thank you for giving us so much to absorb.
I really appreciate your focus on fighting for a just cause. My principal always emphasizes the idea of standing for something instead of standing against something. I think the same goes for our efforts to be righteous. Don’t focus on what you’re not supposed to do, but focus on the good you can do in place of sin.
I absolute love love these lessons and share them on FB and with friends each week. I appreciate how much time u spend, the detail you give, and all that I learn because of them. Thank you for sharing your talent! It is very much appreciated!!!
Thank you for sharing the things we Need to do! Let us be Women and Men of God who are not afraid of going against the Worldliness and Really, Truly Stand up for our Freedom!* *(Even if for us, it's not considered "popular".)
Hello! I"m loving this study! I thank you profoundly for the water-skiing, snorkeling & the scuba diving - great analogies! At 20 min. 34 seconds, on the slide listing scriptures with 'causes' the scriptures listed as Alma 58:16, 28, and 30 are actually from Chapters 60:16, 28, and 30. For anyone following along in their scriptures.
This has been a most strengthening and uplifting discussion. I am so grateful for Captain Moroni, for the example he is of righteousness, physical strength, compassion, and his love of God. I am still isolating and having this time to spend being encouraged to keep improving and stay the course is appreciated. I have found much to contemplate from this time. Thank you for your efforts and dedication, I truly feel your love for the scriptures and our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Brother Halverson! I don't know if you remember me, but my name is Rob Horn. It was Robbie Horn back in 1997 when you were my seminary teacher at Spanish Fork High School during your first year of teaching (Acts-Revelations). I came across your page during our family studies for this week's lesson. I was so excited to see you on this video and that you are still teaching the gospel. You definitely made an impact on me as I was able to quickly recognize you and remembered how much I enjoyed feeling the spirit that you brought in to each lesson. Thanks for all your hard work both as my seminary teacher 23 years ago (man, that makes me feel old) as well as putting these videos together. There is no coincidence that we are studying the Book of Mormon in the church this year and that we are in the Alma and Helaman chapters during all this turmoil and deceit both in the US and the world. Keep up the good fight, brother!
Thank you for your lessons. Wow, I see this beginning to happen today. Who would imagine a year ago the shut down of the countries economy & religious gathering, defunding of the police, riots and the vitriol that is happening today.
I think your discussion about being prepared by knowing what weapons the enemy uses against you to easily gain the victory has just saved my life . Because of the cPTSD, there are so many weak points that the devil uses his weapons on to drag me down. I never thought of preparing myself beforehand, only talking with my therapist, prayer, and battling mental distortions by writing them down. However, these are all things I do after the attack! I have just made a very long list (about 16 for now) of my worst weaknesses, and I'm going to find ways to prepare myself against those things that have made me miserable during too many times in my life. Of course I've prepared by following the doctrine of Christ, by learning how to really study the scriptures, by service in the temple, by fervent prayer, the words of the prophets, etc. But to often it isn't enough to help the battle going on in my head. I'm so hoping that I can prepare myself now first, so that I can be ready for the increasingly difficult latter-days. Thank you exceedingly much!
Can I just say that I LOVE that you mention Rocky IV!!! That movie taught me so many moral lessons as a teen, and the music has inspired me to make personal changes in my life when I didn't think I could hold on anymore. Just like the scriptures, and this very channel with your imaginative and informative lessons. ♥ Your rendition and comparison of Rocky's training and preparation to Captain Moroni 's training and preparation combined with real life, in general, is genius. I have had many discussions with my 18-year old about what is going on in the world right now and how it parallels exactly what we are seeing in our society. I think this quote from the movie sums it up. “To beat me, he’s gonna have to kill me. And to kill me, he’s gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he’s gotta be willin’ to die himself. I don’t know if he’s ready to do that.”
I thought if I repent then I was safe. WRONG! Thanks for helping me to see that Satan will always attack were we are weak. So fortify and anticipate his next move.
I took special notes on this episode because I never related to it, nor finished reading the war chapters. I found them boring to me. But now, I learned its purpose for the recording of the wars because you explained it in simple terms and helped me to understand why Moroni included these chapters. I’m grateful for your skills and helping me to understand. Thank you. This is my Sunday school class every week. God bless you and your family for your dedication to serving Heavenly Father and your fellow members/man. A Puerto Rican living in Sacramento, CA.
Mormon wrote this history in the record to help us prevent falling in our day. The more you re-read these war chapters the more you will be able to protect yourself and your family in the future.
There was a sign hanging over the stairway at the coal mine that I used to work at. It said. I always thought somebody should do something about that, then I realized I was somebody.
As I was reading these chapters before watching this video I was struck by Alma 44:5 in a way I never had before. Jared talks about it and points out how many times the Nephites are fighting for this cause. But I realized in 44:5 what Moroni is telling Zerahemnah is that we are fighting because of the covenants we have made with God, with our fellow saints through our baptismal covenants, and the covenants we have with our family, which I think is what Moroni means by our "sacred support which we owe our wives and our children." And they are winning the battles as they honor those covenants. I believe it is also in reference to the Abrahamic covenant which would cover liberty binding them and us to our lands and country. This is the same covenant that author Tim Ballard points out that Washington and Abraham Lincoln and the Pilgrims invoked for their protection in this promised land in his books. I think this is further explained in Alma 43:45-47 and Alma 48:14-16 and many other places in the Book of Mormon. Making and keeping our covenants with God allows God to "prosper them in the land" which not only includes temporal blessings, but to have His Spirit and His protection which I would suggest is spiritual and temporal protection.
I just came across this website. I'm not a LDS though I have distant relatives 50 miles away that are and my husband's cousin is a LDS. I tried studying years ago but couldn't understand why the Bible takes 2nd seat to BOM. I don't think I still have the BOM. Don't know what happened to it. At any rate, I'm enjoying this video. I loved history in school. Speaker is clear and calm. I think I'll look for part 1.
Hi there, Brother Halverson is an excellent teacher! I am glad you are enjoying these videos. I learn so much from them every day. He does a great job relates things to our day. Thats what helps me the most. If you didn't find your BOM and want another, go to the church website and they will send you one, your husbands cousin or I can even send you one❤️
Thanks for these lessons. I struggle reading the war chapters because they don't interest me but glad to have some insight and can totally see why they're there now! :)
Oooh I hope you don’t mind me piping in on this one... this is exactly how i USED TO feel... another war chapter, here we go again, and just skim through it. But then one morning - for some reason - I received a different perspective. As I was reading chapter 50 about all the fortifications these thoughts came to me... I suddenly saw the importance of building fortifications around ourselves and our families ie not of mud and rocks but of prayer, scriptures, Temple, FHE, callings, Ministering etc... and not just ONE of these (oh I’ve said my prayers this morning - that’s good enough - NOHHHH) but building one on top of the other the way Captain Moroni does - he digs down but then puts works of timber (50:2), and on top of the timber goes the frame of pickets (v3) and on top of the that the towers etc... so don’t stop at a quick prayer in the morning, but then following with scripture study, looking to the wise and guiding voice of parents, leaders, prophets... then v 9-12 discusses surrounding ourselves with people who have the same values as we do and pushing away or cutting off ties with those that drag us down. And then again widening that safety circle by turning off the radio in the car and instead listening to uplifting music and talks, having discernment with the movies we watch, computer, games etc... as Pres Nelson puts it “being INTENTIONAL”. So this is what I had got out of chapter 50 and I was pretty stoked. Within a few hours I received a phone call from my daughter who was at BYU at the time (across the world from me). She was having some serious issues and was distressed. And suddenly those ‘war chapters’ which I had previously skimmed over and rolled my eyes at - particularly this chapter 50 just all came to light and I was able to teach and guide my precious daughter. So please don’t give up on those!! And at this point in our life, we are living an actual war and those verses can teach us and guide us to keep ourselves and our families safe. God bless!! 💖
Jared, I started listening to you at Jacob 4. Did you begin sharing your lessons at that point, or did you begin with 1Ne.? May I just chime in and let you know that I have picked up a great deal of understanding from your lessons. Thank you soooo much.
That's when he started was as you found, Jacob 4. Several have asked if he'd go back and do lessons from 1 Nephi on to that point, however because of time he is unable to do so. These videos take enough time as it is each week. But yes we are all like you and would love that, but grateful for what he is able to put together and teach!

I appreciate all the work you do on these videos and your well thought out perspective. I live in Mexico and wonder if you have thought of doing a Spanish version? I think most Spanish speakers do not have access to as many great online helps and especially church books. I have been watching some of your older videos as well and I wanted to share a perspective on the Mosiah turning the government to the people. I think the people of Limhi returning likely had a huge impact on him. He saw the mistakes of his sons and also the story of King Noah. But even more than this were the plates of the Jaredites that they brought back for him to translate. You can imagine his horror of what happened among those people when he read it. No one had known much about the Jaredites until these plates were brought to him to translate. The Kings of the Jaredites moving the people to righteousness or destruction must have been shocking to him. Anyway thanks for all you do.
You made a comment about who the king men or those of “high birth” likely were. I can’t seem to find the spot in the video. Could you tell me who they likely were, please? Thank you!
3 statements that help motivate my efforts and describe part of my teaching philosophy: Beethoven: "Don't merely practice your art, but force your way into its secrets."
