I'm so grateful the lord has blessed us with people in our day with these skills to study teach and share and bring the teachings of the Book of Mormon to light in this way. Thank you, I feel very blessed tonight.
I love watching these it's great to have these to go along with the weekly family lessons. Thankyou because we can't go to church right now and this is great for enrichment.
The quote you shared from President Hinckley got me to drive a little deeper. I imagined someone choosing the winning side in a battle. After choosing to be loyal to that military unit, they become protected by that unit and will have a level of safety. Then, when they have spent time obeying instructions or commands, they can gain added strength working together as group of soldiers in that unit. Similarly, when we choose to join the Lord's side through the act of Repentance, God offers us Spiritual protection. Then, when we choose to stay and follow His Commandments, God will give us His strength so we can help in God's army and with Jesus Christ, conquer the Enemy!
You teach hard lessons! Where does peace of mind become apathy? So many questions. King Benjamin’s tower being used to overwhelm our. Society with division. Words, both good and evil, bombard us daily. I thank God that we have the Restored Gospel to guide us meet our challenges.
In 2001, Gordon B. Hinckley mentioend that he was reminded of Pharaoh's dream of 7 years of plenty and 7 years of famine. 7 years after 9-11 we hit our housing crisis and the recession was drawn out for 7 years until the election in 2016.

Brother Halverson, I love your in-depth studies of the CFM lessons. I am curious, though, where you came up with water ski, snorkel, and scuba. They are part of the trademark for the SWIM Reading Model™ that I have been using for years to teach levels of thinking in reading--and have recently adapted the model for studying the gospel. So, I am not only curious where you came up with the analogy, and if you own the intellectual property. If so, then I would very much like to reference your explanation in my SWIM Reading Model™ digital course for gospel scholars.
I love these lessons!! Thank you for all the time you take to share with us. I sort of hope you don’t go back to the classroom:). Is these a way to contact you with a question?
Morianton and contention: so, what do we do when someone is being contentious? We don’t want to contend but do we let others walk over us in order to avoid contention?
@Craig Newton Amen brother! I would just like to add: The Lord needs his saints to be meek, so that when called upon by the spirit, we will act for righteousness sake. One talk that covers this so well, and might actually be the best talk ever: "Meekly Drenched in Destiny" -Neil A. Maxwell ua-cam.com/video/tV0_KEMIy7o/v-deo.html Meekness is not weakness, it's relying on the Lord and trusting in him over the "arm of the flesh." if someone is being contentious I would say listen to the spirit, offer up a prayer in your mind and ask the lord what to do. In some cases he might just prompt you to walk away, because it will prove no benefit, only more contention. But if he prompts you to stand up, then defend with boldness.
You can hold your ground without arguing. I did that with anti-gosple comments from a friend's husband. She later said he doesnt like many people but he liked me. I once told a picketer outside the Easter pageant that it was great we lived in a country where we could both express our beliefs. He was surprised and said he was surprised i didn't speak to him in anger. I wished him a good night. Maybe it made a difference, maybe not, but I know I kept the spirit with me both times. I did have to once end a friendship as she was taking anti Church classes at her church. The evil spirit replaced her sweet one.
I really hope you see this. But I really like what you said about the cause and defending yourself. I wrote that down. I was wondering because I know in the last days that we will need to proclaim truth. My question is in relation to what you had explained about defending the church. How would you defend Joseph Smith? For me personally I would like to know how others go about this. I know there is only so much I can say because a lot of it is acting on and having faith. But Joseph is so important to me. Though I know what most outside of the church believe the false idea that Joseph Smith took part in something he didn’t. I know he didn’t. How can I defend him? Or should I leave it where it’s at and just know in my heart the real truths.
I joined the church at the age of 50, after 18 years as a fire-breathing, proselyting atheist. (Yes, it was a long, strange trip!) I had a problem accepting that Joseph was what he claimed, and the First Vision was a REAL problem for me. As I studied the Scriptures, including the Bible and the Book of Mormon, I finally arrived at the rather rationalized conclusion that if part of it were true, most like all of it was, and if, as Christ said, Satan could not cast out himself, any person or book that testified of Christ could not be of Satan. (Leaning unto my own understanding has been a challenge for me!) But a few years ago, after about my 4th cover-to-cover reading of the Book of Mormon, and an exponential strengthening of my testimony of it, a thought occurred to me during a fast and testimony meeting. The mission of the church is not to bring people to the church, but to bring them to Christ. Likewise, it is not to bring people to Joseph, but to Christ, and the Book of Mormon is a powerful, priceless tool in that quest. The fact is that it matters not if Joseph was the charlatan and con man the haters claim. - No, I do *NOT* believe that of him! - but it doesn’t matter. The Book of Mormon is precisely what he claimed it to be - Another Testament of Jesus Christ, and the inspired word of God, given to Man by His Prophets. If one will study the Book of Mormon, and seek its connection to and congruency with the Old and New Testaments, a testimony of Joseph’s divine mission will come. (“…Blessed art thou, Simon aBar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not brevealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” Let The Spirit do its work.) I am certainly not qualified to dispense doctrine, so this is simply my own testimony and my own story. When I stopped fretting about Joseph Smith and began to focus on the Restored Gospel, it all fell into place like the pieces of a puzzle. I hope this helps. May Our Father in Heaven bless and guide you.
In Nov 2017 the Church announced changes in status for those acting upon the decision to marry in account with popular culture. Research of this may explain why we are being prepared to strengthen our faith as culture wars rage.
In the Old testimony those who would have recognized the coming of the Christ (aka messiah, Jehovah, and all the words described of by the prophets and Isaiah had they not apostatized) would have been people of Christ recognizing that Jesus was “The Christ” recognizing their acceptance of Jesus as the Messiah. In the New testimony the Followers of Jesus in Acts recognized Jesus as the Christ as well. Had the Jews truly been listening to the prophets they would have seen the coming messiah, still many do not.
We generally don't take that attitude. But we do believe that when it comes time to appear before God and be judged by our thoughts and actions that, unless we are prepared, we won't want to be in his presence, even though we believe that the lord will be pleading for us to stay. We believe God holds our agency with the utmost sacred reverence, he doesn't force us to do anything and he doesn't use manipulation, and we try to do the same. Satan uses guilt, fear and manipulation to repel you from God, Satan might say something like "if you don't repent now, You're permanently lost." God uses love, patience and encouragement to call his children to him, and we try to do the same.
I think it might be for people like me. I was away from the Church for years. I desired to come back at the end of last year. Christ’s Atonement and his love and mercy for me, helped break the chains that bonded me. I’m free, really free. I have never known the true power of prayer, scriptures, and His love for each and everyone of us. It’s much more peaceful, a true blessing in my life and my families life.
I thank the Lord that there are those who honestly seek truth- that instead of looking for and finding human weaknesses or potential mistakes, have instead chosen a higher road to tread. Hopefully, with patience, we will find unity and greater hope together. By studying common scripture and by loving one another, that will happen-even when we find one in our midst who might occasionally be filled with questions that sometimes cause irritation to the less committed to unity and deep understanding.Thankfully, we are given a forum to express thoughts and feelings such as these. Nevertheless, contention benefits only one cause, and that cause is not great. The leader of that cause will find bitterness and will soon sacrifice dominion. That will surely come to pass. 🌎
IMO...God's dealings with mankind are pretty similar throughout time. A war between good and evil then and now. And the fact that you would recognize the similarities of both books is a testament to what the Book of Mormon claims to be... Another witness of Christ.
@@bovaoifi I'm talking about the every word from the king James version is very similar to the book of mormon. It's like Joseph Smith pioneered the copy paste.
@@bagnasbayabas Some subtle tones in your response suggest you are here to stir up trouble, but I could be wrong so if you are asking this question genuinely with the intent that you are just curious. The answer is that the root of the people who wrote the books of the book of Mormon come from the same people who wrote the books of the bible. When they left Jerusalem they took with them a copy of what was basically the old testament (the brass plates) and they did it "to preserve the language of [their] fathers" in fact in second Nephi, the prophet Nephi, quoted word for word, parts of the book of Isaiah. It's interesting to note the tiny differences between the king James translation and Nephi's copied verses, the monks who translated the old testament as ordered by king James actually did a pretty good job! when you look in 3rd Nephi, you will see that the savior Jesus Christ visits the people there, just like he told his disciples he would do "Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold." when he's there, in the americas, he says word for word the beatitudes to the Nephites, because why wouldn't he teach them (his other sheep) the doctrine that is pivotal to being a christian? So it's no wonder to me that it has the same style of language. If you choose to assume Joseph Smith wrote this book and didn't translate it, you are choosing to believe the most impossible feat was ever accomplished! Take all the people of the world with a 5th grade education, let them study the bible till they're 23, then get them to write a fiction posing as a history of an ancient people in 6 months time. Then lets see if any of their writings hold up against the most intense scrutiny for 190 years and still continue to hold. I promise you none of them will be able to do it. By the power and word of GOD and the testimony of Jesus, I testify to you that Joseph did not author that book! He translated it by the power of God and it was preserved against the most vile and bitter persecution, so that YOU and all his other children can read it and have another testament that Jesus is the Christ, the savior of the world.
@@dreggory82 there are several English translations of the Bible. Out of the many versions, king James is the closest thing for the book of mormon. We're talking about every word and every period of the the sentence. It's like Joseph Smith while he was translating the book of mormon, his only available Bible on the shelves, is the king James version as his reference.
Gods love does not DESTROY - Her love envelops and includes ALL her creation. Yu lost me at about 53 minutes I think hat SOFT voice is creepy, while talking also about controversial HATEFUL contentious things. Im trying to listen here BUT I do not agree or resonate with some of what is being said... the words seem contradictory.
I think you just need some context, it would seem uncomfortable for most people who start at the wars section of the book of Mormon. The one side of the fight was motivated by hatred, lead by unbelievers who wanted to destroy the Nephites, and they are the ones who started the war. The Nephites, on the other side, were just trying to defend their freedom and lands, but unfortunately pride crept in and wickedness eventually overcame both sides. It's not a nice topic, but it's important to see what happens when pride and wickedness creep in. I hope that helps. Edit: These chapters are hard to get through, but there are actual relevant lessons that can be learned from studying them. Similar to studying the world wars, if we don't study history (learn from our mistakes), we are doomed to repeat it.
One thing none is talking about is the Devil. Guess most people have only heard of him. Suggest you examine The Book and see how many times Secret Combinations are mentioned.

Ability and Nobility...So is Nobility without ability? No bility
Similar to studying the world wars, if we don't study history (learn from our mistakes), we are doomed to repeat it.
dreggory82 what if we were not so focused on the problems and sins and just remain focused on LOVE JOY solutions and Peace ???
One thing none is talking about is the Devil. Guess most people have only heard of him. Suggest you examine The Book and see how many times Secret Combinations are mentioned.
The Book of Mormon is fiction.
