I have had an SD card left in the pants pocket in the washing machine. Came out, worked perfectly. Probably more rugged than a Gnarbox (and so much smaller)
The people that are leaving negative comments don’t understand the features this thing has such as being able to transcode video internally because it is basically a computer, not just a SSD with a SD card input. It is expensive, but for the professional on the go it is worth it.

Great video covering the angels. I am sure you knew before you ever hit the record button that people were going to be all over the comments with “too rich for my blood” and to be honest you could see it on your face as you gave your review. I have been taking your advice from the get go man and you got me up and running video in no time flat. I agree with you the WD application is not great and it’s super slow (I purchased the 4TB model). The WD Wireless is very good for backing up SD cards on the go (not weather proof) and it’s been very reliable for me. The price is sweet at $219. WD also makes an SSD version of the wireless drive in a few sizes but at 1TB you are looking at $450. Again you have to use the horrible app (please WD fix it) but you end up with a great SSD that can backup your files out on shoots and when it’s time to get the files into your iPad at home you can use your computer get get the files off the drive without dealing with the application. I also have the 2TB SanDisk SSD ($249) and that thing is screaming fast. Downside is there is no way to drop to the SSD without using a computer. But I highly recommend checking it out. I guess what I am getting at is there are many great solutions out there and this is one of them. I personally feel the price they are asking for this device is not inline with what the masses are willing to shell out . If the 1TB was priced closer to the WD 1TB Wireless SSD maybe $550 it would be something I personally would purchase. Keep them videos coming man!
I totally agree with you! That’s why I was prefacing the “professional” crowd. Those who spend a ton of money and the “perfect kit.” Our of all the devices I’ve tried, this thing really “just works” and it’s been a life saver. Like you said, if the price was a bit lower and more inline with people looking for backup solutions for iOS devices, I could get a lot more interest from prosumers. But this isn’t just an iOS backup device so 🤷🏽♂️

There are an unbelievable amount of bogus reviews from ‘reputable’ sources, openly wrong with misleading info, at the behest of their sponsors, no surprise... Disagree with the naysayers. Combine GNARBOX as the front end in the field with your IPad Pro gives you all the redundancy comfort and powerful field editing you need. Even you edits are backupable back to GB as well as your Photos and Cloud. I’ve got 20x redundancy min. without even thinking with the 2 beasts and no computer....
I use it in the mountains to unload my SD cards to it and then edit the clips directly in Lumafusion. I don’t use so much discspace on my iPad as Gnarbox transfers only the part of the clip I use in the timeline and not the full clip. So the film is ready when I have days later again an internet connection. And the clips are also on a backup, original on SD card and backup on the Gnarbox.
Gnarbox looks dope af and all, but thanks to this video I bought the RavPower device you mentioned for under $40. No internal hdd, but I can import directly into lumafusion from an SD card or hdd hooked up to it. 🤘😊

I was very excited when the Gnarbox 1.0 came through a kickstarter project. Missed picking it up then.. was really cheap back then. Later when it came to market .. picked up a 128GB version. Was ok couple of times, but later it started heating up a lot, that i could not even hold it in my hand. In around 6 months it started behaving really weird. I think reliability is a big issue with the Gnarbox. And it took a long time to back up even a 16gb SD card. And once it did.. battery used to drain so fast. Not sure how the 2.0 version is compared to 1.0
Way too expensive, the only thing going for it is it’s build. But if your going to abuse your gear to the extent that you need this sort of build, your camera, IPad or laptop will be smashed to pieces before this and frankly they are the important stuff.
Question for anybody using Gnarbox 2.0 + Lightroom CC mobile to import When i go into Lightroom > create album > add from files > select gnarbox > folder > select > select all > open - it will not copy to Lightroom... anyone else experiencing this issue? Very frustrating :/
ATM LumaFusion doesn’t see the gnarbox directly from a wired usb-c connection. So using Ethernet allows you to get those fast transfer speeds directly inside the app. There is an update coming soon where you’ll be able to view all the files from the files app inside of LF. That’s the only reason I used it 👍🏼
What has been your real world battery life? Can you use it while it is charging? I have a gnarbox 1.0 and you can’t do that, the battery was dead so quickly that after importing a flash card and then trying to transfer the file into LumaFusion it would be dead in a couple hours usually before it finished transferring the video files to my iPad.
Yeah I’ve had pretty good battery life! I asked if their could be a firmware update so that if it became idle it would power off by itself, but other than that it’s been pretty good 👍🏼

The iPad Pro need an built-in SSD to be a great video editing device.
I think I will just stick with the Rav Power for under $100, starting at $600 are just too expensive for most people.
It's not so much just the on board storage because it reads and writes to micro SD card.

Version 2 is a complete overhaul from what I've heard from them. None of the problems it used to have are there anymore. That's why the higher price.

Not an Apple user but I shoot in the field and in combat zones and can't at all see using this ever. It is a wasted step in the process.
