I saw Cannery Row on HBO way back in the 80's and loved it. Making Love was a very controversial movie back then, esp with a Charlie's Angel, the beloved Kate Jackson. But it would be less than tame today with movies like Brokeback Mountain. But back when it came out in 1982, Making Love was a huge first step in the genre.
They were way off about Cannery Row; it was a great movie. They didn't even mention John Huston's great narration. Making Love was trite even for the time.
They got it wrong on Cannery Row. Our Family loved that movie and appreciated it for what it was. I’m goin to rent it on Amazon this weekend matter a fact:)
Thanks a lot for sharing these classic videos. Film criticism - scholarly, contextualised, and comprehensive at that - is not for everyone, and what these people did attests the aim to guide people in their film viewing habits (something that everybody has a choice to do or not).
I actually liked Super Fuzz. Terrence Hill is a very talented comedian, but they should have done the film with Hill's usual partner Bud Spencer. Probably would have been more entertaining Ernest Borgnine looked as out of place as he probably felt. Just have fun with the goofiness and let it take you over. But then, HBO was the first premium cable channel our parents would spring for, and HBO ran that danged thing CONSTANTLY! So I probably like it because I was totally overexposed to the movie as a kid, and Hill's probably best entertaining the child in all of us. Beyond that, I liked the music - it was very repetitious, but it was cool.
The Boat Is Full - Oscar nominee, Best Foreign Language Film (1981); Sentimentalizing a serious issue for the sake of drama with heavy-handed dialogue and stilted direction. 👎 Making Love - Michael Ontkean is the best thing in Arthur Hiller's (Love Story, 1970) mannered and innocuous soap opera about a struggles of homosexual relationships especially when one of the men has a wife. 👎
. ..🍃. .these two meatheads took a delightful stretch of Steinbeck’s imagination right to a pothole being filled by the city road crew. ..Ebert’s too intellectual to absorb the earthy homespun quality of the characters and their lot in life✨
Lol the thing is who wants to watch a movie with subtitles? They are so full of crap 😂 ebert clearly didn’t enjoy the movie but didn’t wanna say so incase he got backlash for it.. if u can’t give an honest opinion then y are u a critic? Total bs

Bet you’re awful at parties 🥱
Ebert praised the 90's version of Of Mice and Men.
A couple of jerks who obviously did not do their home work ...
Yeah, they’ll never make it in Hollywood 🥱
