I need to bench test a Balboa control board that won't energize the heat relays(s). Can the two sensor terminals be unconnected from the board or do I need to short each one to fool the board into energizing the relays. Or do I short them with a resistor. I don't get 240 V across the heater, no codes, and the panel shows heater on. Wiring is fine. I don't want to spend $500+ for a new board if it's a $2 relay.
Do these sensors go bad often? Was using the hot tub a lot but then after a freeze (it went into freeze mode and ran for 3 days) it gives SNS code. I swapped the wires and reset it. Then swapped one sensor and then the other sensor with sensors from my other hot tub (it’s not plugged in, but was working 4 months ago. Could the cold temps mess up all 4 sensors? Is there a test kit that I can install in place of the sensor that just sets the resistance to ensure it’s the sensor and not bad control board?
I have the 3KW M7 heater & am getting OHH/OHS. When the water cools it does start to heat up again. I have ran it without the filters so know it is not a flow issue. I have the temp set to 38C/100F. I did catch a temp reading of 43C/109F before it cut out. do you think it will be these sensors on the heater unit. Had the tub since 2006 & still running well. Thanks.
Hi, this is what I have….i use a salt water hot tub so need a titanium system. I know you can get the titanium element but was wondering if you can get the whole heat exchanger made out of titanium? Plus I’m looking for a 1 1/2 hp titanium pump? 220V
The only titanium item is the element the tube is stainless steel.. There is no such thing as a titanium pump.. Salt is a bad idea in a hot tub in my opinion.. They are not designed for salt use..
My hot tub is set at 102 but it's heating to 108. Do you think its a sensor or something else? Should I replace one or both sensors? No error codes. No GFI problems
@spa guy - Great video! So my hot tub is heating up to temperature fine - meaning if the water is 80 it’ll heat to 103 without an issue. My issue comes with maintaining the temperature. It’ll hold it for a day or so, then it stops heating and drops back down after an error message saying the heater it’s too hot. Thoughts? Swap the sensors? Thanks in advance!!!🎉
@@SpaGuy thanks for the quick response! I’m not sure what F to refers to, but I run to filter cycles a day, one for two hours and one for three hours. I’ve had the spa since 2016 and never had an issue until now. Does that change the guidance at all? Thank you again so much for taking the time to respond.
Most Balboa systems are not set for 2 different filter cycles usually one.. If you do not have one set higher that 2-3 I recommend 2 then you may have a situation where your pump is quitting intermittently or a heater relay is sticking intermittently..
Good evening Spa guy. I have the most sensors in my balboa heater in my spa. It appears that the temperature on my display is 6 degrees higher than the actual temperature. Any ideas? Thank you in advance for your help.
Help Spa Guy, I have one of these heaters and keep getting a LF code. I replaced the heating element and the filter with a brand new one. The heater light turns on. But the pump or pumps dont kick on! I checked the suction filters in the tub where you sit and they are clear. When I push the jets on manually everything works fine, all the jets work and the heater light is on.. But after a few minutes, it goes back to the LF error and won't start until the jets button is manually started. Would the temp sensors have anything to do with this? Or is it that possible a relay for the circulating pump is bad and not telling the Hot Tub to kick on? If it is a relay do you have a link to one of your videos stating on how to determine this? Thanks David
I had similar type issue with LF trip outs. This seemed to help: (1) turn off spa, (2) remove side panel, (3) Locate control pack (black box), (4) loosen two screws at top and open door, (5) Turn dip switch #12 to ON (up) position, (6) turn power to spa ON, (7) when Pr appears on display turn power to spa OFF, (8) Turn switch #12 to OFF (down) position, (9) turn power to spa back on. I think this does a little re-boot of the control system. Good Luck.
Hi , I have a balboa gs series and it is heating very slowly , 1 to 2 degrees per day. There is no voltage on the heater element teminals but it still seems to be heating slowly. I have checked the element and it has 29 ohm resistance. All the jets seem to be flowing ok. Any ideas of what the problem could be. Thanks, Anthony.
It could be a damaged Heater connector, Relay cold solder joint etc.. I have a video about the Balboa system not heating but none on the GS system specifically.
