I guess I have some movie watching to do. I haven't seen much from that genre, especially from the 80s, but the music is cool. Loved the mono mixdown. Roll off about 6 dB per octave from 2.5 kHz on up, add some 8 kHz hiss and ~16 kHz whine, maybe layer in a light 60 Hz hum, and you're bang-on for our TV set from that era. 😅
As always, I listened to this tutorial spellbound and I'm thrilled as always because I really enjoy watching your tutorials to get inspiration and for relaxed entertainment. You've done this again, I'd love to see more Espen! 👍🎹🔥
Wow this is one of the best videos I've seen in ages. Love Claudio Simonetti and Fabio Frizzi. You did an excellent job. A treat to see your production processes with it.
Espen - we are from the same period of time, just hearing this track seriously gave me chills it brought back all kinds of 80s horror!! AMAZING JOB!!! I bought this immediately and will be adding it to my Halloween soundtrack for the trick-or-treaters! Great job as always!
This is really outstanding work, Espen! I love the sound, and the movies aswell. Phenomena for example is one of my favorite horror films ever! Incredible atmosphere, I just love it
Almost any synth today can do this. Hardware or software, it doesn't matter. What matters is creativity. To harness creativity, knowledge is key. Gear today is not the issue. The person using the gear is. That's what my channel is about. Creativity, inspiration and knowledge. I have almost 450 videos tutoring exactly that. For personal tutoring or consultancy please contact me on email.
Love it! Man, that VS bass patch sounds great. Now we just need a slasher flick worthy of this theme song! I don't know what it is, but things just don't seem right at the church camp this summer. Weird things have been happening at the old forest chapel at night...
I see you use chords very often on your channel. I don't know if it's "on topic" for you but could you make a video on how to use chords (of more than 3 notes) "quick and dirty"? If that's at all possible? I wouldn't know how to use chords in music. Especially if they're more than 3 notes (triad chords). As for the "on topic" for you: the eighties were known for the myriad of polyphonic synths. The seventies were also ful of synths but many were monophonic. When I watched video-clips in the '80 on TV the synths were used to play chords over the music and not for solos, as was often the case in the 70's. In the nineties (cheap 2nd hand) synths were used by bedroom producers. Those producers used computers like the Atari ST and such to make House Music. They rely a little less on chords/pads and more on repeated sequences and such. So are chords on synths typically a thing of the 80's? In my memory: well... yes! P.S. Lucio Fulci and Frizzi's horror music is a "guilty pleasure" of mine too! Have you heard version of "The Beyond" (L'Aldila) played by a real orchestra? Or was that "Zombi 2"? Beautiful! Don't know where I found it, lost it... ua-cam.com/video/GIC9x5w0r7M/v-deo.html
I've done many videos where I go through chords in great detail. Chords are of great importance to me and all my music depend on chord structure and chord inversions.
You should start with my series "A song is born" where I compose a song from scrath, in real time, while I explain everything. Another video is "why do 80s music sound so good?" where I go through the chords of some famous 80s hits. Cheers

You had me click the "Like" button as soon as you said Dario Argento! That's one hell of a film maker!
That bassline is money. I loved the sweeping resonant filter like in City of the living dead :D

Fright Night vibes :D It's September now... the Halloween feeling is already here.

Fantastic. Thank you for sharing. I love genre/giallo/slasher film music.
Thanks!
@@EspenKraft Quite new to writing/composing this style of music. Can you recommend a couple of synths that are not too expensive?

absolutely incredible work as always Espen!
Thanks!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Very very cool sound and a good explanation how it is built. 👍🏻
Thanks!
Nice!
Goblin🖤🗡
I'm doing a run of horror ambient for now. Hopefully, someone in the industry hears one of my tracks and wants me to write for their project.
Sounds like Samurai from Michael Cretu😊
Hahahaha! Oh man, you're going to put Charlie Clouser out of work, LOL!

That first pad (PXF3 F75) sounds like it's got some phase cancelation issues. The waveform looks stereo, but it's got a hollow mono sound.
Exactly. It's made like that so it sounds out of a bad VCR or something. Everything here is planned out and mixed accordingly.
Hi Espen, really nice track an video ! How do you control the PCM 70 ? What kind of controller are you using ? Thanks for your channel - Stephan
Thanks! I control it through Midi CC and a CC controller. I have a video about this coming up soon.

@@EspenKraft Okay. Thanks for the tip. I'll go through your video's then, hunting for info on chords. 🙂

Intrigued as to what controller you've got on the PCM70.
It's a CC controller. I have a video about this coming up soon. It's already out on my Patreon page.
this is really cool, but I don't have a bunch of vintage synths lying around. could you show us how to do something like this in Logic Pro X?
Thanks! A synth is a synth regardless of it being hardware or software. It's all about ideas and creativity.
Was your Yamaha SHS-10 vid deleted?
It was.
Just needs Simmons toms 😊
Not on this track no. That would ruin everything.
I guess you didn't sell ALL the vintage synths
Kept 10-15 of them that won't bring in much cash anyways.
How high are we going with the midnight drive series?
When I reach 10 I'll release a full album on a physical medium. Probably CD. I've talked about this earlier too.
@@EspenKraft Thanks for indirectly telling me I'm not listening well. 😁
No offence meant. I've talked about this in earlier videos and live streams as it's a question that often comes up. :)
so no mention of the beyond then........ :(
Schweick forbid me.
it is not italo disco, it american/ like pinapple pizza///
Whatever
Love it. Synth and giallo / horror is a match made in heaven
