- As another of the day's frequent bands of thunderstorms rolls into the Rochelle, Illinois area; an eastbound stack train, led by UP 7775 pulls into Global III.
This is shot looking east from the Thorpe Road overpass which is just west of Union Pacific's intermodal yard "Global III." I spent several hours up there on this day. It was a great perch to watch the interesting unstable weather that flowed through the area. And although the bridge was pelted with heavy rain at times, it never seemed too severe. Not much cloud to ground lightning or heavy winds.
I actually had three cameras recording this. The usual tight approach, wide approach and this the wide departure shot. Couldn't quite figure how to edit it all together since all of the shots seemed dramatic. This was the simplest solution.
@mcresq65 We were both parked on the south approach. I'll bet that there were only five or six cars past us in the two hours we were up there. A good day for it. Thanks for watching.

Very cool Bill, great timelapse of the storm. As much as I like sunny days for railfanning, storms provide interest of their own.
@Hiei2k7 That is true. With all the flat land and good visibility, the view was super.
Bill
that is one heck of a storm front. I haven't seen something that big in many years. great video
@iusetano Thanks. It's easy when you have such a great actor as the weather.
Bill
@TheCprailfan1 Thanks much.

it is an excellent vantage point up on that bridge. Can see for probably 20-30 miles around, simply because it is the highest point for 20-30 miles around.
amazing video Bill.
Yea, I remember that storm.. As far as Thorpe goes, never seen anyone have a problem passing, plenty of room. Although one time the armed guard came up and saw the three cameras. He laughed and said "whatca doing".. Tower saw us and sent him out.. Two years later on 8 13 13 and son and I were at Rochelle.. .
@nikosjk1 Thanks very much.
