its sad too cause those games with the unity cube maps get more traction than games that are actually super good at maps (like robot tag for example and other games i didnt list here)
This is a really cool tutorial! If you're interested, there might be an easier way to do the shading for a map. I'm not sure how rendering works on the Oculus Quest so please forgive me if this method isn't supported on that platform; however, I believe there's a setting in the Mesh Renderer component where you can turn on double sided shading for a mesh. Under the Lighting dropdown menu in the inspector, there's a property called "Cast Shadows" with another dropdown box that has "On" selected by default. If you set that to "Two Sided" it should allow for shading to occur even if the mesh's normals are pointing away from the light source. In addition, there is another option called "Shadows Only" which will cast shadows on other objects while the mesh remains hidden from the camera. I hope this helps with improving the efficiency of shading so you can continue making great content!
I think the main problem with maps is that people dont spend that much time on like making the walls having a little more depth and the ground not having like difrent heights
I feel like the certain things are done in this video aren't the best way to do it, such as covering up the ceiling in spawn or using the plane to cast shadows. Ways you could do these better are by 1. when extruding the walls of spawn to your desired height, click "Fill Hole" for a perfect ceiling. And 2. for shadows on the main map, go to the "Cast Shadows" drop down, and click "Double Sided". I hope this improves your map making experience.

How do I get pro builder?
on the "smaller map", dont extrude it off to the side, go to the line menu, select the lines, and then click fill hole
to fix the things not being center go to the thing under the scene tab with the square and the circle and select "center"
Btw there's something called a cut tool so you don't need to subdivide and add a lot of faces causing lag.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH😊
why is my texture so small on the floor and walls pls help
tbh when I make a new map on my game it'll prob be bad lol
Ok
I love your new intro!!!!
🤓you dont actually have to detach floor faces, select all ground textures then drag texture on any selected face (make sure u use 4th menu)
You don't actually need to detach the faces, just select the faces and add the texture there and it will only go to the face selected area.
you need to detach the faces if you want to add slip walls and stuff and its good practice to be able to access everything easily
what is the 3 menu
after letting it sit for a few mins
wat u use toi edit
i see what you mean now.
i use probuilder luckily
