Dan’s so precious, he deserved way more recognition than he ever got, it’s really sad he’s not doing so well anymore but with talent like this he’ll live on in everyone’s hearts who’ve ever had the pleasure to hear/meet him :)
What a great band! I love them! One of the best independent bands ever. Gifted, visionary, focused. Saw them live several times. Unbelievable! They should have been real big stars!
I got to say as a songwriter Dan is one of the greatest. Its a pity his personal habbits stopped him getting the real success he deserved. He is very ill now and most likely we wont ever get any new music from him so glad to find old vids like this.
@Reint25 MGMT, on their newest album- Congratulations, has a song for Dan Treacy (a member of the Television Personalities) the song is called- Song for Dan Treacy
One of the best albums ever. Period. If you like acts such as the Velvet Undergound and Joy Division, you simply cannot dislike this. F*ing brilliant! ♥
Not seen this for yonks! I bought the (really good!) LP when it came out ('84?) This wasn't on Whaam! but another indie label I think, and Dan was still selling gear (not that sort!) from his flat with Emily, including live tapes. Never given enough credit was Mr Treacy...GJ
How does liking a band make you a hipster? To me a hipster is someone who only listens to bands they think will make them look cool, regardless of how they feel about the music. I genuinely enjoy listening to both bands, if that makes me a hipster so be it.
@shelly10538 I've heard of them ever since 1990, when my sister found her copy of the LP With Twiggy (model currently selling new clothes on the home shopping network, usually regarded as "who's that lady with the short hair?" and patrick Macknee (avengers fame usually regarded as Who's that bloke in the bowler hat by a number of people) I stole that record for a listen whenever she left the house at 12-13 yrs old part of my pretend radio show...
you're just awfuly embittered... Just take a look around, and see how all Barrett's, Tracy's, Love's (etc) fans who are under 30, and sometimes older than 30 think MGMT as the greatest contemporary band and the only hope for Psychedelic Rock. Then listen to Congratulations, and maybe, oh maybe, you could be blessed by this wonderful music. Young generation is way aware about Rock n Roll, they listened even to the rarest things it had to give, and they know why they love MGMT, and you're square.

Was 50 in August and still consider myself to be one of the younger fans of this classic band. Saw them 3 times too. Ah bliss

They brought joy...and love....to me
thank you so much for posting this video, what a band, what a record.

But you can regret that he insisted on singing his own brilliant songs. If only Lou Reed or Ian Curtis were up for it.
Thanks Xfold
i dislike it just fine thank you
Jowe is right there with the lil' guitar.
Wish there were more TVPs videos from the early days.
Its called a Ukulele
He's actually the one with a horn jumping up and down in the very back. The one with the uke was organist David musker.

@camelotgeorge33 Can you explain the MGMT connection? Did they name them as an influence?
