Great series of videos! I’m in the market for an XR250. Thanks for sharing your journey through the small details

All of this is good information for me to know. I am a first time motorcycle owner, and I am learning a lot of helpful tips from these videos. Thanks

Your XR looks great. It's fun to see one going down the road. I've never made mine street legal because I also have a DR650 that is street legal. Anyway, it sounds like your idle is set too high. Also, like you said, it needs to be re-jetted for the open pipe, but you might also want to re-adjust the fuel/air screw. That alone stopped the decel popping on my bike. I'm at 650' Elev, running an FMF powercore 4 muffler, 135 main and stock pilot jet with air screw 2.5 turns out. Airbox snorkel also removed, but stock air filter element. Also running stock gearing 13/48. The bike runs like a top, plenty of snap.
Anyway, looking forward to more videos, very nice XR you have there.

I been there, lets face it it just did not have enough power on the Hi-way jetted piped all the free mods so I got a 650 .

Great job, and much appreciated info. Are you using stock 13-48 gearing? I just bought a street legal '96 XR250R in great shape and totally restored. Just came back from a 250 mile trip (mostly mellow dirt roads) at around 4,000 ft elevation. It ran perfectly, but at 45 mph, it felt like the engine was at 90 percent RPM. There's no way I'd be able to go above 60 MPH! From what I've read 14-45 would let me hit 70 mph on pavement, but still work well for casual trail riding.

I'm using stock gearing. I was worried about it hitting 60 initially but I ended up hitting 64 on the second ride and the bike felt like it had plenty more to give. I don't think it would have an issue hitting 70 but I imagine that would be max.

How is the tachometer reading with the wrapped around the sparkplug wire? Ive got a vapor on order and am wondering which way I should wire the tach.

So far it seems pretty close. I've messed with the amount of wraps to get it as close as I can.

I think the foam oil rots the filter element faster.
