I was so disgusted by these two defendants. They owed this many thousands in back rent and he gave them alot of time to catch up. She wouldn't even open the door to speak to this man. Also in this episode there's a man who's trying to buy(more like swindle) the property from the plaintiff. This man needs to have a co conservator. He is being taken of advantage of by e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e and its disgusting.
The son really needs to take over, you're right. He would have even lost this case if the son wasn't there to help him out.
@@AnarchistPoop I'm slightly concerned about the son as well. It looks like maybe he could've been the one to introduce his father to this swindler trying to buy the building on the cheap. Nothing was mentioned but he seemed not too concerned and just the vibe i was getting he seemed chummy with the man. It's very sad situation.

This maybe conjecture, but another side of the story is the son also lost his brother to the heart attack and his mother is dead.
It could just be that the father and son were dealing with all the losses, in their own ways or by themselves.
This is also speculation but if the son didn't care at all, he wouldn't of gone on TV in front of millions, to help his dad.

I'm glad the old man has a son to help him. He's almost slow in court. His son should manage all his affairs.
He raised him great. They both truly seem like great men.
But why did he bring the smug to the court? Why did he mention that the smug took the pictures? I hope they're not in cahoots because it's weird he doesn't protect his father, allowing this guy to shadow his father. How didn't he get agitated with no down payment and overall shady steps of the smug?

These men are not his son, in the first part he said his son had died from a heart attack.
I was a home health nurse. Had a baby at home on an apnea monitor. Parents had a ferret. It kept chewing through the adapter cord. Cords were 50 dollars a pop. They didn't care until we started charging them for the cords.
I would absolutely flip. Of all the things for a pet to damage!
I worked for a dme company and the amount of people who would just expect free stuff for their cpap/bipap after they broke it was crazy.

I think he probably did knock on the windows knowing she was home and didn’t answer the door. But she’s playing it up like he was being violent or threatening about it, but I don’t buy that.

Sometimes you can only do what parents will allow you to do for them. It's a tightrope. As children we see the need but the parent pushes it/you away.- "It's okay I got it." Their pride gets in the way. They seem to not want to be in their children's care. Now that JJ has made it clear, this widower may let his son in and help him.

The plaintiff got the $4200 they owed him for rent and ferret damage, and now the man’s younger son (his elder son died of a heart attack) knows to help his dad get a lawyer for this building sale.
As an owner of 10 ferrets and 2 german shepherd I will easily say that the ferrets will do MUCH more damage to a house if left out and not supervised.
Why would they do that to this nice man?

Here's a synopsis of the episode:
Trust the Judge, Get a Lawyer -Plaintiff / landlord Donald Watson is suing defendants/former tenants Ray and Becky Smith for stolen property, unpaid rent, and damages. Defendants rented an apartment above a pizzeria, after a job loss they stopped paying rent, (landlord says $2200, def. say $4,000). Defendants say that new owner of building was going to cover their back rent, about $800.
JJ tells plaintiff to get a lawyer, for the building transfer with his witness (buying the apartment and pizza shop). (Sadly, plaintiff seems very confused, and lives alone after his wife died, and he really needs a lawyer). Pizzeria closed after water damage, and after the plaintiff's son, the manager of the pizzeria, collapsed and died.
The damage to the apartment was caused by defendant's ferrets, including rug damages. JJ declines to see pictures of the ferrets from the defendant. As usual, tenants claim plaintiff harassed them, and I guess that's what she calls asking for your rent. Plaintiff is very confused about unpaid rent total, and the potential buyer, Brandon Hettle, is in court to help the plaintiff. I really hope the plaintiff found an attorney for the apartment building sale, because otherwise, he'll get ripped off. Plaintiff’s other adult son is in court to help him too.
Defendants were $4200 behind on rent, and plaintiff gets that.

You're living in someone elses property. Its your responsibility to watch after your pets. If your pets cause damage, you have to pay. Idk whats so difficult for these fools to understand about that

I love ferrets and my son owned a few. They are cute, funny etc. but they can be damaging to your property. You have to keep an eye on them. The landlord had every right.

It’s common knowledge that ferrets are legendary party animals. It’s in their genes. We’ve all heard the stories of ferrets trashing hotel rooms with bands like Guns and Roses & The Who. We all heard the stories about them trashing the dressing rooms backstage. So cut the ferrets a break. They’re just party animals. We should all be thankful that our forefathers, The Beastie Boys, fought for the right to party.

ferrets can cause extreme damage and should never be pets. They are wild animals and should be allowed to live in the wild where they belong.
