Kenny Drew is a seriously underrated pianist, his phrasing and improvisation is just incredible.

One of the things that I just absolutely love about dex' playing is that in his hands that instrument sounds exactly the way that it's supposed to, and that is like a TENOR SAX, I don't hear that enough today.

A man in full controll of his instrument and with one hell of a sound!!

Yes! Observe the distance to the mics. Even at the start, we are hearing here raw sound, full, direct, with very slight room reverb natural from the local I think. Not the overprocessed sht sounds of nowadays

Dexter Gordon is my personal favorite tenor saxophonist because he kind of defines the classic jazz genre for me. He played fluent bebop at all tempos but was also a master of ballads. His improvisation style was technical and playful at the same time. His sound was big and fat and served as a model for the countless tenor players that he influenced.
Dexter ticks all the boxes of sound, style, language, and technique and that’s why his music is universally loved.

I think Dexter was at his peak in the early and mid 60s and this proves it.

Spellbinding era from Dex, the one and only. Truly a unique human being, both hambone adventurer and musical savant. This is documentation of a memorable night on Earth.

Dexter's announcements on those SteepleChase Copenhagen aircheck LPs used to crack me up.
For this tune he'd say "And now we'd like to play Second Balcony Jump... or Second Balcony YUMP!" (playing on a Danish accent).

Its not Coltrane changes, its still rythm changes! He just uses the Coltrane/Bergonzi system in his solo. 1235 on major and 1345 on minor. Thats what Coltrane used to improvise on giant steps, 26/2 and other Coltrane changes. Jerry Bergonzi made a whole book about it. Check it out :-)

But with comment, you aren't. Gordon deserves praise in English, not in vulgarity. What is a reader supposed to take from such a comment except that you have difficulty expressing yourself in any way other than on the level of Kim Kardashian. LTD deserves better.

Classic prototypic son of a Howard University MD grad who never graduated himself, but triumphed anyway, in spite of that. Plays his axe like a scalpel that a would-be/have been doctor would practice medicine; if he could by credentials and license. Looks like one of the cats/fellas you'd meet on the yard during the years as a schoolmate. Garden variety HU stock pedigree the is written all over him. Strange, unbeknown corollaries exist in all our lives... for all we know.
