TRIVIA: Filming began with Jeffrey Hunter in the lead, but a serious case of hepatitis caused him to be replaced with George Nader after one day of shooting.
Film Noir never goes out of style ❤
Technically not a Film Noir but I get what you are saying. Love these movies
Never!!!♥️
I AM WITH YOU ON THAT!!!!
I need a drink!
Maybe technically, but what is darker than an addiction to alcohol? @@lloydbraun6026 Most don't even know until it's too late to cope with it. Then it calls for more drink. Liver failure, no one will give a liver to an alcoholic because they'll kill that liver just as soon as they can. Why bother?
My first husband was an alcoholic and I can relate to what this man is going through. Fortunately, my ex finally found the courage to stop drinking and turned out to be a great grandpa.
Congratulations 🎉👏
Hard Thing To Do.
God Bless 💗🙌
"first husband" What number are you at now, if any?
My wife died at 56 1/2 from drinking and taking Tylenol for her pain. I'm still alive 21 years later, but I miss her desperately and painfully everyday. Nothing replaces that feeling and desperation. So many nights I wonder why I am still around. Sometimes I want to try to find her. She had kids and now four grand kids, I'm so weak. The kids are all far away. I cry in my heart no matter who I meet.
I forgive her and I can't forget about how great she was as a living person. I feel like I have to apologize to everyone for surviving.
I guess I'm stuck. No one can help. Alcohol is poison. Believe me. Death in a bottle. No forgetting. Prayer is the best thing to remember.
@@spartandodge6034 So Very Sorry For Your Loss.
😥🙏🕊️🕯️ Sending Prayers.
Yes, Pray Has Really Helped Me Survive, It Is Really Hard.
Take Care. God Bless You.💗🙌
Maybe you were the cause of his drinking!
Anyone who has had to deal with an alcoholic feels this movie ..
The actors are all v good, Joanna Moore was so beautiful.
Ah, the 1950s! My favorite decade. America's classiest decade, I think.
This movie is riveting! Thank you Rob W for sharing it with us! Please watch -- you won't be sorry!
Joanna Moore was beautiful and had a great singing voice. She sang a duet of" Down in the Valley " with Andy Griffith. Its on UA-cam. Unfortunately she had a drug and alcohol problem that pretty much destroyed her career. Sad end for a beautiful and talented woman.
She was Tatum O’Neil mother also
RIP Joanna, life is harder than a movie.
Cinemascope movies are always a delight for the eyes
Thanks Rob W. Films of that era are a world unto itself.
You're welcome!

love the period set design. Beats a lot of those reality shows now taking over TV.
So true!
Never gets old
Noir are the GREATEST Movies to me!
This was really good. The first part introduces us to the main character and his troubles. Then the story kicks in hard with a twist. This is noir with a capital N.
Beautiful actors. Everyone dressed beautifully
No swearing
Good script

Any time there's a vintage movie on UA-cam you will find a comment like this in the thread:
"Movies were perfect in the horse & buggy days when men wore pants & had perfect teeth, & women wore evening wear to do the laundry, & people who got shot did not bleed, & nobody ever swore or jay-walked & policemen spent all day looking for lost puppies & gasoline was free & every movie was a masterpiece. Nowadays, everything is rotten & the kids talk dirty & wear funny clothes & every single movie is trash."
The truth is that anybody who watches movies knows that there are both good & bad movies in every era. No single era produced masterpieces only & no single era produced trash only.
And just because somebody misses the good old days of their childhood does not prove anything about the quality of movies from that time vs. the quality of movies from now.
I have been watching classic crime movie since I was 7 years old....I am now 41 and It's always wonderful coming across a movie I have never seen!!! Thanks for uploading this it made my day!!!💯👏🏽
So glad you enjoyed!
Me as well Olivia, I'm 31 but love these flicks, I have to thank my grand father for it 👌🤗
@@Robert-qm5so Awww nice!!! Classic movies are just wonderful and I am glad my mom introduced me to them at a young age.😊

This was a great film. I really enjoyed it.
I'm going to recommend a film noir that I promise you will appreciate.
The scene where Lizabeth Scott poisons Dan Duryea is one of the best in movie making history.
The movie is:
Too Late For Tears
🍿
@@gregoriopalofuego9808 I will watch it tomorrow, and will get back to you Gregorio , thank you much 👌
I am so thankful I know noir. This is an excellent choice. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
Walter Winchell once called Virginia Field "The most beautiful blonde in the world". Here she is, wowing the audience as a burlesque dancer at the age of forty. Wow.
Brian Keith was always good!
That was a surprisingly good movie. Well acted and great middle twist. Thank you for that upload!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The beautiful blonde actress was Joanna Moore. She ruined her acting career early on due to being an Alcoholic Addict. Joanna married a much younger actor Ryan O'Neal (Peyton Place/Love Story) they had Tatum O'Neall (youngest winner of an Academy Award for (Paper Moon). Joanna lost custody of her two kids including Griffin to Ryan when they were little. Ryan was an addict and Narcissist abuser to the kids. Both became addicts in their teens doing drugs with Dad too. Tatum married tennis star John McEnroe had 3 children lost custody of them to Anger junky John. Finally got sober then became a crack addict. Is she sober now?
What a tragic family.
Tatum tried to seduce Michael Jackson for sex. She was a fast little thing.
You are so right. I had forgotten about this son. Bone chilling isn't it
Wow!! All wealthy, miserable people!
IMO - Alcoholism and drug addiction are both diseases. Yes, the addict most definitely needs to seek treatment. However, I don't see the conditions as a moral failing where the person is being punished for disobeying God or following the devil's temptations. For example, a person doesn't set out in life to become a diabetic, and society doesn't judge the individual in the same way as someone who has mental illness.
The 1st time I saw Joanna M. was on the Andy Griffith Show, in the 1960s; she played Peggy, his old girlfriend. I thought she was beautiful. She was 23 here. Born Dorothy Joan Cook. Married 5x. By the 1970s, her vareer began to wane, due to alcohol & drug addiction. She died of lung cancer in 1997, age 63.
Thank you RW for this great film 🎥.
Love the first scene, sleeping at the bar 🍺🍻🍷
Wonderful music 🎶
Glad you enjoyed it
Yes, jazz and blues add so much to the atmosphere. And this dark humour scene with two young musicians involved!..
This was, is a classic film you do not want to miss. The ending is even a wonder. Hard beginning because it sets the stage. Stick with it. One healthy sounding garbage disposal I must add.
This was a top notch movie. I always enjoy seeing Brian Keith and really like George Nader, too. My father was an alcoholic and I know what they go through - to condense the alcoholic's dilemma into such a short time frame was not easy to do and really seem believable but I think it was done well in this movie. I remember Joanna Moore as the beautiful (I think she played a nurse) in the Andy Griffith Show not sure but I remember her. Thank you, Rob, so much for showing this for us!!!
Joanna Moore was beautiful and had a great singing voice. Also had a problem with alcohol unfortunately.

Yes Joanna Moore played a Nurse and Andy’s girlfriend..strangely I think she had a drug an alcohol Problem which worsened around the time she was divorcing her husband Ryan O’Neal…and sadly eventually disappeared from performing.

I totally agree with you. It's such a burn to hear what happens before we watch the film. Those people who do that are buzz killers, and do it just to pee in our Cheerios.
Hope you enjoyed this one, and I hope you've seen Bogart in The Treasure of The Sierra Madre.
Bogart should have won the Oscar for that performance of a lifetime- even better than when he did win one in The African Queen.
However, in The Treasure of The Sierra Madre, Walter Huston did win an Oscar for his role- which was fabulous too.
Directed by Walter's son, John- where John has a small part where he gives poor, desperate Fred C. Dobbs (Bogart) a few pesos to eat.
What's interesting, is Bogart's character in the movie was so poor, dirty, and desperate, yet in real life at the time of filming this movie, Bogart was the highest paid actor in Hollywood.
Knowing this fact, we have an even greater respect for the level of creative genius Humphrey Bogart put on full display in "The Treasure".
🍿
Thanks for uploading. Good to see you included the release year with the title - many don't bother but it helps in IMDb searches.
Thanks for watching!
Fine acting from real actors. Not just people who are hired to fill quotas.

A fine film noir , with almost unbearable tension and suspense .
Love how the film has Lawson's Whiskey as a sponsor, with product placements everywhere !
Watching from Greece. This was a great story on every level. Thank you so much for uploading!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I honestly didn’t want to sit through a tale of an alcoholic, but in typical noir fashion, that was just to suck you in. Fine acting and such simple sets, it couldn’t have been much to produce. Thank you for providing it to us.
Joanna Moore, once married to Ryan O'Neal and the mother of actress Tatum O'Neal.
Yes, good acting good story
Thank you for uploading this

Now that's a motive that would need your full capacity to survive! ❤️
Outstanding movie! Thanks Rob. I love the bits of trivia you give too.

Gotta love Film Noir ever so!!! This movie was made the year I was born, 1957, n I recognize Joanna Moore from the Andy Griffith Show as well as George Nader n Virginia Farrell from other various film noir n Brian Keith from many many shows n movies and I realky enjoyed all of them rolled up into one tonight. Great choice!! Thanks for turning me on to this riveting movie of my favourite genre of movies, film noir!!!Nothing like a gritty street wise movie in black n white from the 1940's ir 1950's with a noir twist!!
Well said!
Rob strikes again! Thanks as always.

Joanna Moore is Tatum O'Neil's mother. Great movie 👍
Humm, that explains a lot about Tatum!
Wow I knew she looked like someone but couldn't think who
(and, thus, step-mother to tennis great John McEnroe).
Great acting. It's tough abstinence. @ least it show's him trying to overcome.
Me every Monday morning waiting for Friday night!!
I love how Penny wants Paul desperately to quit drinking but then leaves booze all over the apartment! I also loved how those two guys never stopped jamming even when a strange guy came flopping into their room from outside!🤣 This was a pretty good one! I liked it! I also liked Man Afraid with George Nader!
How in the world do you get such clear, perfect prints of these B&W noir flics?
These movies always turn up better when the protagonists are flawed or wrestle with demons...
Glad you like them!
Outstanding. Thanks Rob W.

I usually detest alcoholic themed movies but this was a winner. The pacing of the film is excellent and climax well timed. I would still like to have a few whiskeys at O'Connells Bar. Looks like a cool place. 😀
Really enjoyed this, it was different (in a good way). Thanks Rob W.
Joanna Moore--beautiful. Alcoholism is ugly. At the level of drinking he was at, few recover.
this shows a real understanding of alcoholism. A same that he didn't know about detox units at hospitals or AA. Both were certainly around then. Fine film.
Wow! Great film.
Quality movies from the past
Yes!
Such a good movie.
Nice film noir. Enjoyed it. Thank you 😊.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing this, as I've wanted to see it for some time as part of a bio I'm writing on actor Richard Carlson, who directed this film and a handful of others. Of those films, this one seems the best regarded, so looking forward to finally seeing it.
How much did Lawson’s Whiskey pay for those many spots? Yes, there is a whiskey of that brand.

It sure made me want a Jim Beam & Coke!

Another great one I’ve never seen. Thanks Rob.

That was riveting!!
In those days films carried a massage to the public . This one was about dangers of alcohol. It is funny though that nobody in those days locked his door when going out.
Chief Wild Eagle from F Troop, Frank De Kova
Thank you for this great film 😊

I just can't watch a movie about alcoholics. I've been around too many drunks in my life growing up, not, my folks, but, a bunch of relatives. Wreck every family event & holiday. That is one thing that is 100% preventable. Never take the 1st sip. There was always beer in my house growing up. I came home to an empty house, dad worked out of town , my mom worked till 11pm. I never once touched the beer or cartons of cigs. When I married at 20 I told my husband I wanted a non-alcohol house and we have maintained that. I've never been to a bar. Can't stand drunks.
Great film
Yes!
The late Joanna Moore was married to Ryan O'Neal, mother of Tatum O'Neal.
“Based on an Argosy Story.” (The invention of “Pulp - cheap paper - Fiction”!!!
Argosy was an American magazine, founded in 1882 as The Golden Argosy, a children's weekly, edited by Frank Munsey and published by E. G. Rideout. Munsey took over as publisher when Rideout went bankrupt in 1883, and after many struggles made the magazine profitable. He shortened the title to The Argosy in 1888 and targeted an audience of men and boys with adventure stories. In 1894 he switched it to a monthly schedule and in 1896 he eliminated all non-fiction and started using cheap pulp paper, making it the first pulp magazine. Circulation had reached half a million by 1907, and remained strong until the 1930s. The name was changed to Argosy All-Story Weekly in 1920 after the magazine merged with All-Story Weekly, another Munsey pulp, and from 1929 it became just Argosy.
Thanks rob, I really enjoyed that.😊
Glad you liked it!
Great movie !
I agree!
That was stellar!
I would love to see Term of Trial, with Laurence Olivier and Simone Signoret
I've never seen Joanna Moore act. She's pretty and very good for this era of acting. Tatum O'Neals mom.
She was also a very good singer. Had a beautiful voice.
My lack of patience, compassion or pity for alcoholics makes this impossible for me to finish. I'm gone. I hope he doesn't survive.
Given how clean the streets are, and the weird unreal sound effect when people are talking in the street, I’d guess this was filmed entirely in a studio and not on location.
Real good film noir.
Really enjoyed this one!👍
Glad you liked it!
Never get the lost weekend level with Ray Milland .
George Nader was Rock Hudson 's lover.

All you needed back then was a pocket full of dimes, cell phones really help stop the chaos.
A simplistic view of addiction but some of the struggle is caught. Addiction is a lifelong disease which brave people face every day. Our society encourages drinking on the one hand but condemns the drunkard with the other. Hypocrisy.
His bar bill in 1961 was $6.50. That's $72.24 in 2024!
