I think it is due to the sharp angle of those universal joints. Notice the motor on the right is running quite smoothly. One way around this would be to use a chain or belt between the motor and the axles that is rotating the ride. Alternatively making sure the joints are aligned to each other may help. That means on the diagonal axle on the right make sure the slot in the side of the joint at the top is on the same side as the slot a the bottom. Just rotate one joint by 90° and you're done
