FIRST real demo after the summer vacation! FEELS GOOD!
So grateful for your content bro..I know it’s a lot of work we all don’t see or get..but you rock dude! …and if you wanna send me o e of your sunburst SC Solar, like the ene you played with your dad..I think that was a double cut tho….either one would be a literal….DREAM COME TRUE! Lol. Never owned a new guitar….always used, so so gear. Had a lot of good stuff over the years…but nothing BRAND NEW. One day Ola….one day…throw that pick!!
And sound good!
I'm listening from my tv speakers and my first impression was you could have stopped the clock after 1 second. It chugged straight away with everything in the 12 o'clock position. 😁
Just the right time 🤟🤟🤟
I'm actually impressed. More "vintage" guitar companies + heavy distortion = usually bad, but damn this sounds good. I have plenty enough of drive pedals, but if I needed a straightforward metal pedal I'd seriously consider this for that price.
Haven't Vox made a few decent sounding high gain amps and pedals over the past 20 years?
Vox almost seems sorta trapped in their brand IMO. They make a lot of good shit, but they're always thought of as The AC30 Company.
@@alanerpington5698 Definitely. The problem is that if they made a serious high gain monster at this point, who would care? Everyone is happy playing their modelers now... I hate that it's true but 🤷♂
@@MrSneakyPants Isn't the AD50VT XL both?
@@skaldlouiscyphre2453 I wouldn't consider that a dedicated "modeler". I mean Axe FX, Kemper, Helix, Quad Cortex, etc. The amp that you asked about is just a valve hybrid that has some modeling options. If you've ever used one of the modern modelers, you know what I mean.
Funny how the middle knob used to be turned down on a lot of amps/pedales in the 2000's. On this one it really brings the whole tone to life at 7:35. Love the tone, definitely chugs!
Man, I have Ibanez Toneblaster 100H and I would say 0 mids is the only playable sound for me
I think a lot of that is the difference between passive EQ and active EQ (like this pedal has). The control at noon is the 0 setting where, with a passive EQ, all the way clockwise is 0 and everything else technically deducts from that frequency.
I personally hate these modern, boxy, mid-range heavy tones. I always scoop my mids a bit. The guitar has an excess of midrange anyway. I find you blend into the mix a lot better without all those boxy middle frequencies.
@@robertritzenthaler3775 I don't know, the day I stopped scooping mids, my tone improved a lot, and the notes were a lot more defined, especially in dense mixes ! That said I use multi band compression side chained by the snare around 200-400kHz to avoid the muddyness
@@robertritzenthaler3775 Boxy sound comes from low mids, it all depends on the specific frequency the mid knob on what you are using is actually changing. That's why I like when gear has 2 mid knows, low and high mids. I honestly feel like that should be the standard by now
Thanks for the demo of this cool new pedal O Mighty Swede! It chugs well with your playing style. Love the low end thump you had coming out of the amp. Awesome riffs as usual. Have a great rest of your week!
This is really up there for Vox. Glad to see pedals with multiple settings for multiple setups. Impressive.
About time somebody gave this a proper try. These pedals are great. They are an actual type of tube btw.
Awesome, I been wondering about this pedal. Thank you for your service.
Thank you for being an integral part in reigniting my love for all things guitar and heavy metal.
I've really missed these! One of my fav series on UA-cam by far.
Those damn tight chugs man. Love it.
Normal valves require high voltages to really do anything distortion-wise, which most pedals don't bother with. Nutubes operate on the same principal, but can run on tiny voltages - not a gimmick at all.
But yeah, the screen is nonsense.
Thank you for another entertaining and useful review, didn't know about this pedal at all.
Ola at his best, chasing tone and metal magnificence!
Sounds better than expected!
Damn. Was not expecting that. Killer tone.
Great video!
Yaaay! Honestly, it's one of my favourite series on UA-cam.
I'll wait for Vox Satchurator in this series!
As gimmicky as that oscilliscope might be, I've had the Mystic Edge pedal (the AC30 pedal) on my board for a while and having that has really saved me time troubleshooting when I'm not getting sound. I can 'see' if the pedal is getting any signal from before it, so it's helped me zero in on what the issue is (turn your guitar volume up, plug your guitar in, turn the amp on, duh...).
It's ridiculous how many times I'm stumped about why it doesn't work and it's the damn guitar volume knob
The IR output sounded absolutely killer. This is one of the best affordable gear you demoed since your "Marshall DSL1" video.
Vox's amp sims have been pretty gnarly sounding for years. I used to practice at home with one of their metal amplugs into a small power amp and with a little playing around with the eq, you could get some very usable chuggin' metal tones.
Best series on the internet.
sounded really good !
I got one of these a few weeks ago and have so much fun with it. Love the EQ knobs to really shape the sound I get from it. The oscilloscope is gimmicky, true, but I like it because it looks cool. I agree about putting some overdrive into it, played around with some of my other pedals on that score.
Awesome to see Ola giving it the Will It Chug? treatment!
I’ve had this pedal for a few months. I put it up there with the G3/G4 as the best metal distortion pedals for their price range.
The mid of this one makes it appropriate for applying distortion to Western acoustic guitars. It has a nice range of treble, too, and is not too shabby as a preamp.
I have the Mystic Edge version of this. The oscilloscope is actually very handy for board troubleshooting. If you're not getting a sound, you could quickly identify if you have a problem before or after the pedal in your signal chain.
Love the "will it chug' series...
Clicked immediately!!
sounds great.
🙌 finalmente!!
love ur videos olg ive learned so much from ur videos
Sounds great. Impressive for Vox
i love that you riffed all against all
This pedal seems super versatile for many genres of metal
nice demo !
Ohh!! That's awesome pedal!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟
I built a preamp with some russian mini-tube (type 1SH18b) some years ago, it ran on fairly low voltages but gave a great crunch to a clean signal!
If you combine that with a regular overdrive circuit (diodes) then you can blend it any way you'd like.
And I think that's what Vox tried here.
Sounds great, to be honest!!
But I would certainly prefer a version without the oscilloscope - cheaper and more roadproof.
That pedal looks cool and its totally affordable. Thanks for putting it on the radar.
“Birdie num num”… didn’t expect to get a Peter Sellers reference with my chugging. Awesome!
Thanks for sharing brother Ola . Love you! Greetings from Türkiye
Sounds really impressive
Sounds very good.
Welcome back!
not just metal, you help the punks and hardcore ppl too lol, thank you for that
I got this pedal after Ryan from Plaguescythestudios recommended it and I found it 2nd hand. It's a really good pedal and keeps up with the KSR Ceres. It also takes boosts very well. I paired it with the blackstar Dept 10 boost and it sounds better than most tube amps I tried (Laney Ironheart, Line 6 DT25, Marshall DSL, Orange Dark terror)
The Nutube is a vacuum tube based on a vacuum fluorescent display. I have built a few circuits with it and they sound "ok". They are very low gain and don't really break up as smooth as a more conventional valve. The good thing about them is that they use very low power and voltage, but, they are expensive.
Gotta say this video has one of the better guitar tones i've heard in your channel!
Well done VOX (and Ola).
Agreed! True eargasm! So chuggy!
Pedal surprisingly sounds really good
I actually stack the vox mystic edge with a boss super overdrive through a quilter od200. It sounds and feels amazing. I used it over the summer when my band went on tour. I had people looking at my rig and scratching their heads. You should pair the mystic edge with various overdrive pedals on one of your videos or when you have down time. The results definitely surprised me.
amazing!!!
I bought one of these when they came out. Wasn't too thrilled with it and returned it.
Sounds pretty good
That pedal is Badass!! I likey!
Yes
I love The Party! Peter Sellers was a genius! The demo kicks ass too but then again you can make any pos pedal sound awesome.
I want this !
Another great Chug !!
It chugs and it channels a bit of the spirit of Mesa-Boogie. It handles clean, crunch and brown equally well.
oscilliscope makes it look cool! like old sci-fi shows or something. And sounds cool surprisingly
Love 'The Party' reference, such a classic :)
IMO, this sounds great for metal ! That KSR POWER AMP is very interesting too, gonna have to look into that more!
I’ve seen him run the Quad Cortex into the KSR live. I’m very interested as well.
Ola is doing important service to us all!! WILL IT CHUG!
Instead of buying new preamp tubes I'm just getting one of these. Thanks for the review!
This pedal sounds really very good ! 🙏😽♥️
Sounds kickass! Didn't know Vox could make something this metal. It's somewhat pricy, but considering how feature-rich and versatile it is, it's actually very decently priced. The Copperhead Drive - from the same series of pedals - also looks, and sounds great! If you buy all four of the pedals in the series you could create an awesome four-channel Fender/Vox/Marshall/Hi-gain hybrid pedalboard amp.
They did back in 2007 when they made the ad50vt-xl.
For anyone who cares, there's four pedals in Vox's Valvenergy family. Silk Drive = Dumble/boutique Fender, Mystic Edge = AC30 (seems to be the most authentic sounding, not surprising as it's Vox), Copperhead = Marshall, Cutting Edge = Dual Rec.
To be fair, Vox is owned by Korg
Ditto. Really I just wanted to comment because my initials are opposite yours.
That’s a pretty cool pedal. I agree they should’ve added another foot switch (Lead/Rhythm) that strips the tight function back as well as the gain for better leads that way you can switch back and forth more easily. You could also make it multi-function so when it’s in the clean function you can get 2 different clean tones. 🤷🏻♂️
Almost a mix between an engl and evh sound! Sounds great!
It's actually intended to be a Dual Rectifier sound.
I agree, the front panel is a bit redundant. Just gimme a status light and be done. Sounds pretty damn cool though
That cab mode has the perfect 2000s metalcore sound
Man, I really miss this series 😭👍
Laney Cub-Supertop! I'm suggesting it for a will it chug in every video until it happens, much love!
Wow, instantly a great tone :0
Sounds damn good
The nutube tech kind of impresses me tbh. Definitely worth reading up on how it works
i have 2 of those little vox practice amps with amp modeling, and they're pretty nice for what they are at 130 bucks, very good gain models with a very natural sounding tone on most amp modeling settings, so i'm expecting something here.
Vox rocks!!
Oh shit, the cab sim's actually pretty sweet!
Cool, I thought the same thing about the oscilator
I did not expect that.
Damn! I was surprised how well the Vox
sounded
Hey! Thanks for the review on this. I recently picked up Vox 2x12 valvetronix amp like bran new for $150.00 ,what a steal! I was looking at this on line but after your review it sounds like what's built into my cab so I'm going to pass on it. Live long and die oblong. ✌️😁🧡
🤘💀🤘
Damn son! That sounds good 👌
This pedal is awesome.. boost before really tighten it up.. better than the 5150od I like it better than the rev g3 I have as well
and if it's been mentioned forgive me, but that link is MIDI (adapter included). Also you can shut the OSC off if it bugs you that much.
good pedal
at 9:28 you play that At The Gates style riff. I love that riff man
Sounds VERY GOOD for a more classic ‘80’s thrash tone. Has a Marshall-y bite that I like! 🤘🤘
You might prefer the Vox Copperhead from the same series, as that's the one that's actually intended to be a Marshall-like tone.
This is modelled to sound more like a Mesa Boogie amps I guess
@@SujeetGT Sure does very well with my MiniRec25 clean channel. Sold my Metal Zone to a teenager lol
I want that guitar...😍😍 that colour is soo beautiful...
Holy balls!!! Great for metal!
Birdy num-num. Birdy num-num... Pete Sellers in The Party. One of my favourites when i was younger🤣
Cool man!
I like the sound a lot. I had a couple of the old vox modeling amps, and they were really good. I would have assumed they could do pedals as well. I may have to get one, AFTER I get my solar x shape. 😉
The video quality is soo good in this video, it's so sharp it actually burns my eyes (no connection to Machine Head intended :)). Did you upgrade your camera Ola?
I’m making DIY version of Rat just for fun, and it’s always nice no get additional motivation from your videos. And from chug of course.
Hi Ola, nice demo as usual. Thanks for checking out all kind of stuff for us.
Could you do a demo about the good old DOD FX 56 B? Its a close HM2 call. USA versus Japan 😀. Preferably the four knobs version. Theres also a threeknobs. Btw its a 10 volt stompbox. Works on 9v but designed for 10v.
What a fun pedal. I like all the silly features.
Personally I think the screen i super cool I know it’s useless but it gives it a cool look 👌🏼
That pedal reminds me of the, "Game Changer" Plasma Pedal that uses a vacuum tube with plasma flowing through it, looks really cool but it's super crackly like lightening because well.. it is electricity.
the reference to "the party" made me laugh...Ola, you are the Peter Sellers of metal
3:09 sounds really good
It sounds pretty good to me, that chugging? Killer sound
Ola du ær kungen 🤘😁🤘
