The Autopsy of Jane Doe is easily one of the best horror movies I've ever seen! It starts off slow, sure, but once the supernatural stuff starts happening, you'll be glad you hung around through the early segments!
Guys, anyone who is about to do the mistake of watching that movie, dont listen to what he is saying. It barely is a horror movie, it literally is a movie about dudes doing autopsy on a corpse and by the end there are some whack no effort forced scares just for the shake of getting the horror label on it. Whoever read this message, you have been warned. What i say isnt an opinion, it is the actual movie.
A dark song is one of my favorite movies ever. It shows what a handfull of people can do with a low budget and great acting. When the CGI finally comes it's at the end surpingly overwhelming . For fans of Aleister Crowley related themes.
Allas, i have seen all of these movies before. In my defence, i am 52 years old and have watched horror since 1982. Maby i can add a movie that many have not seen before? I do not think it is on a streaming service, but you will like it anyway. Twised Sister's Dee Snyder had a main role in the movie STRANGELAND as captain Howdy. I promise you parents will cringe at the site of this film. But is forgotten in time. Not for me though, i got the sucker on DVD. Greetz, MR KZyNiX.
Well I've seen half of these lol. I will say that if you are into Magick and the occult, you will enjoy A Dark Song, it takes the subject seriously and although it's a slow build up I truly loved the ending, I honestly didn't expect it. I'm surprised Jane Doe wasn't more popular, it was such a classic horror movie and a lot of fun. Same goes for Behind the Mask. Lovely Molly is also a really good film and worth a watch.
I only recently discovered your content and I have to tell you it’s dynamite. Best movie review channel I’ve seen on UA-cam or pretty much anywhere really. Keep it up!
To bad you're only 10 years old and this was not only the first horror movie you ever watched but the first movie in general you ever watched but hell jeah baby, its morbin time, best movie ever!
Another phenomenal list Darren!!! I thought for sure I would have seen most of these but I'm only familiar with 4 movies of your 10! I can't wait to check out the rest.
A horror movie that I thought was creepy as hell but had never heard of (and still have never heard anyone mention since I saw it awhile ago) is Hangman. It's from 2015 and stars Jeremy Sisto. It is a kind of found footage style movie but more CCTV/home surveillance, in similar vein of the Paranormal Activity movies. I was looking for something to watch and stumbled on it and decided to give it a shot, not expecting much. But I was surprised and thoroughly creeper out- and it stayed with me. This movie actually made me check under my bed and I'm 43 with grown children and have been watching horror movies since the 80s. It's not anything new or overly shocking or scary scary but it will make your skin prickle.
See, this right here is why this is my go to horror movie channel. Not only does the channel suggest good stuff, the posters are most in line with what I like as well. I have seen this flick, but forgot about it. Good call. Ever see "We Are What We Are"? Very creepy and dark is all I'll say, give it a watch.
Behind the mask is the Spinal Tap of slasher movies. When it goes for comedy or horror it nails both. Truly a hidden gem especially for fans of slashers and the genre
The Loved Ones is the only movie from the last decade that absolutely took a left turn that not only scared the trap out of me but lead me to a place I didn't even think movies went anymore. Solid flick and I am so glad u mentioned it❤️
I love that Leslie Vernon gets a shout-out in Hatchet 2. Almost feels like a little indieverse of independent horror movies. I had to rewind it to make sure I heard what I thought I heard.
I would like to add a couple of lesser known gems. The first one,is my FAVORITE vampire film "Near Dark".aside from it being Kathryn Bigelow's directorial debut,it features several of her ex-husbands(James Cameron) favorite talent;Lance Henriksen,Bill Paxton, and Jeanette Goldstein. My second suggestion; "Planet Terror"(extended cut). This was the robert Rodriquez half of "GrindHouse".It is better(in my humble opinion) than most of the other Zombie films. It is refreshing take on the genre',and in addition to having a great cast, it has some great cameo roles from HUGE stars to Robert's private doctor and real estate broker.
I asked a question about the movie Creep and He responded a day later! That’s never happened! Thank you. My wife and I watched Summer of 84 and we really liked it! You have a subscriber for life!
Excellent list, Darren. I'll be looking for Lovely Molly and Grave Encounters. I can also recommend The Loved Ones and Autopsy of Jane Doe, both weird and fun.
@@eborgann I have to disagree; "Grave Encounters" is wonderfully over-the-top, but GE2 goes waaaaaay beyond that, to the point of being ridiculous. And not in the good way. But, hey, watch both and decide for yourself
Next time you make a list like this, watch the 2017 release "savageland." It's a monster movie without monsters made in documentary style. The only glimpse we get of the monsters come from mostly blurry photos taken by the main character that makes you back up to get a closer look repeatedly. Some of the worst monsters in this movie are not the traditional ones, but the people being interviewed, who seem to take pride in bigotry and hate mongering, like the radio commentator who seems to have waited his whole life to unload on the main character. I really highly recommend it; it's at the top of my "underrated" list of movies and deserves a much larger audience.
Found a few movies to watch, and I watch A LOT of horror movies. Thanks, Darren. And for what it's worth, Autopsy of Jane Doe is one of my all-time favorites. Just watched it again recently (for the umpteenth time).
The loved ones is a movie that absolutely shocked me! I could not take my eyes off the screen. So many amazing performances and just such a fun, wild movie!
Thanks for giving some love to both "autopsy of jane doe" and "grave encounters"...they are honestly 2 of my absolute FAVORITE horror movies of all time !!! "Autopsy" is such a clever new idea and "Grave" just totally freaks me out every time...NICE PICKS and GREAT TASTE on your part !!
Lovely Molly is so underrated. I've owned it for several years. Have only been able to watch it a couple times. And The Autopsy of Jane Doe is one of my favorites. Raises my anxiety...and that is really difficult for someone my age who's been watching horror for 40 years.
Great presentation, Darren. October is a great horror month and you’ve provided us with some wonderful scares 😱 Many thanks for sharing with us and take care 💎
Summer of '84 is one that I stumble upon once, and I now own a digital copy as well as a DVD of it. I can't believe it was dumped into VOD instead of being given a theatrical release. Grave Encounters 1 and 2 were fun thriill ride-like movies that I recommend as well. I recently lucked out and found a DVD of The Loves Ones at a Dollar Tree, but I'm waiting for the right moment to pop it in and give it a first watch. Thanks as always for your great recommendations!
Genuinely Summer of 84 was one of the best movies I had seen in a LONG time when it came. out. Like that movie still wigs me out just thinking about it!
I liked the overlying message: nobody ever truly shows you who they are. As a teenager, I babysat for some of the neighbors, mowed some of their lawns, dog-sat for them, house-sat for them...but did I truly know them?
I agree with The Signal & The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Oh. And Grave Encounters - I was pleasantly surprised with it. I usually roll my eyes when my husband was watching yet another found footage haunted venue movie but when he put this on years ago, I got into it at the end.
When I know I watch too much horror as I've seen every one on this list 🤣 but I will say thank you for mentioning The Revenant (2009), it's such an underrated zombie film in a sea of zombie films 🙂
Summer of 84 was fantastic! The Grave encounter movies are definitely underrated for found footage style, kind of reminded me of Hell House films. Will raise hairs on your body at time
Thanks for this great list, Darren. Have not seen many of these but remember the trailers for a few of them. I appreciate the reviews of each and the links below and am excited to see them!
I'm a huge horror fan, and these types of lists always disappoint me. Because I've usually seen them all. Well the Autopsy Of Jane Doe is the only one I've seen. And most of them I've never even heard of. Excellent list.
I recently watched Wounds on Hulu and i haven't heard anyone talk about this. I was surprised it didn't make this list but perhaps you don't know it. It's great, open ended at the end but wow it was good.
Great list as always, here's a good one many of you may have not seen, "We Are What We Are". I get so many great tips from the posters as well, remembered that one and thought I'd share. Happy Halloween everyone.
For anybody wanting to watch an EXTREMELY CHILLING found footage horror film, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum. Way better than Grave Encounters!!
Help im looking for a movie where a woman is the only survivor of a serial killer who wears a deer mask and tried to killed her in the forest, that's a flashback. The story continues with her traumatized and isolated, she works on a dry cleaner where she starts making friends. She sees the killer everywhere even though he's dead. It ends with her killing the killer over and over again in a party, but the reality is that's she's killing her friends
I'm very glad I found you're channel the horror movies you recommend are the types of horror movies I'm looking for....those more unique and sometimes a mind fuck type of movie. I swear I've spent over an hour many of times scrolling through multiple streaming apps looking for a good horror movie to watch but eventually end up watching something I didn't really like. But since finding you're channel I've watched at least 5 horror movies that I consider some of my most favorite ones! This channel is the place to find those sort of hidden gems and the kind of horror movies that strays away from those typical horror movies that are overwhelmingly fed to us.
A good underrated scary movie is The Last Shift. I really enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed The Houses October Built 1&2. The 2nd one isn't as good as the first one though
I've seen some of these before because you have recommended them in previous video's. :) I'm looking forward to checking out the one's I haven't seen if I can find them streaming somewhere, thanks for the recommendations!
Jack, the sequel to Wyrmwood is worth seeing, for the life of me I can't understand the negative feedback it's been getting because it has the same pulpy pace of the first so if you liked the first you'll probably enjoy the second 🙂
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon at number one=instant subscribe. Got to meet Scott Wilson at a convention, and he only had Hershel photos, so I asked about Behind the Mask, and he seemed to enjoy that. Got to see him at one more convention before his passing, and he had a couple of pics from this movie. I'll always be sad I was too poor to pick one up at the time, but hopefully other con goers saw the photos and asked about them.
Autopsy of Jane Doe I loved! Need to back and watch it again. What they find in and On the woman will make your skin crawl. And just like Smile, there are Enough jump scares that will make you want to Glue and strap yourself to your seat.
If you like THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE, there's a movie that takes the grim subject matter to a whole other level, THE CORPSE OF ANNA FRITZ. With no supernatural elements or special effects, it's easily one of the best suspense thrillers you've probably never heard of!
I was actually diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 18 months old (I'm 45 now); so I was never really able to get out and "play like other kids", so watched a lot of movies. I think what I, personally, liked so much about horror movies is that no matter how much pain I was in, and how bad things got, I knew they could always be A LOT WORSE! And I was also just a weird little shit growing up. :D \m/
Haha! In Wyrmwood, the zombies don't run on fuel at all. It's the complete opposite; direct sunlight causes the gas build up in their decomposing bodies to become strong enough to power a vehicle, run generators, etc.
About the film, "A Dark Song.." This film is based off of very real beliefs centered around the Abramelin working that sits high on list of significant life events for serious practitioners of magick. Coming into knowledge and conversation with your Holy Guardian Angel is what it's all about. If somebody were to do the working for the same reason as the main character in this film, I can only imagine how disastrous it would actually be (without all of the supernatural events) It would still invite catastrophe.
I liked Summer of 84 too, as well as The Clovehitch Killer. I actually think those 2 might make for a good double feature; kinda similar stories and over all vibe. The Void is probably one of the best "underrated" horror movies I've seen in recent years. Kinda "out there" but different than most other movies these days. I dug it. Haven't seen Psycho Goreman yet, but have it saved on my October watch list for this year. Looks like a decent "lazy Sunday afternoon" flick.
The loved ones: I see this type of movie and it's just proper cringe. That's all. I get it but it's tasteless cringe. Check out: "No one will save you." It was such an awesome movie. Don't talk to anyone about it, just quietly watch it. It just keeps on giving.
The endind Lovely Molly has one of the most terrifying scenes I've ever seen! I was completely shocked, it's very simple yet 100% effective! Great list!
On this list I really liked The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Grave Encounters. I just liked the first one though. A couple hidden gems that I found fantastic were ( unrelated to eachother but I saw them close together so I always think of the two of them) The Shrine from 2010 and (Mike Flanagan's) Absentia from 2011. Very underrated and I hardly hear anything about them. So good though!
I have seen a good bit of these but not all. Good picks but the "assistant" is actually the one leading the ritual in A Dark Song AND i think it's worth mentioning that Wyrmood is a sequel!
My mother was visiting me a few years ago at my home. She's deaf and we tend to bond over movies that I sometimes introduce her to. I fired up Grave Encounters, she liked it except it absolutely reminded her of the deaf school she went to as a child. Cave Springs of Georgia. The hallways and the sterile rooms freaked her out more than the monsters and ghosts. I tried to get her to watch the second one, but she would have none of that. Thanks for the list Darren, for what it's worth my name is Darren as well, and we both spell it the correct goddamn way without an "I" in it. Take care🍺
The hallways, sterile rooms , and endless corridors are supposed to be the scary parts. The ghosts are just to scare the less fortunate of mind, dear 70Slinger. Regards.
A Dark Song is pretty good because it follows a more realistic path in the way it is trying to conjure demons/entities. If you have ever looked it up, a real conjuring takes days and maybe even weeks and can be very taxing and you might even die from the sheer effort of it all. I'm not saying that you can really conjure anything in real life, but the people that have truly tried to conjure demons or entities in real life this is the way it's been done, if you look up the books it will also explain that it takes a great amount of effort and time to do. There have been several that have attempted to do this in the past.
Yo Darren, I saw a movie a few months back and can't for the life of me remember the name. I thought if anyone knows it, it's you. It's a silly comedy set in I believe the 40s. The protagonist is a female adventurer who is like an Alan Quartermaine type. Several times during the film her cloths get accidentally torn from her body, leaving her in he underwear in almost a slapstick fashion. I think her character's name was in the title, but not certain. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
Damn, I think I know what you're talking about but can't remember the title. I think it was something like "The Adventures of....and her name? Priscilla maybe?

I found it boring and predictable.

Loved Ones is so good.
Summer of 84 became one of my favorite movies ever, brings me back when I was a kid also
I agree with The Signal & The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
This is an excellent list. Bonus points for mentioning Lovely Molly.
SAME! I'm only familiar with 4 of the 10.
Summer of 84 & The Signal are definitely worth checking out
The Signal is a really fun film.
I recently watched Wounds on Hulu and i haven't heard anyone talk about this. I was surprised it didn't make this list but perhaps you don't know it. It's great, open ended at the end but wow it was good.
Hunter is the best underrated horror movie I've seen in the last decade.
ALWAYS great lists! Thank you, sir.
Great list as always, here's a good one many of you may have not seen, "We Are What We Are". I get so many great tips from the posters as well, remembered that one and thought I'd share. Happy Halloween everyone.
A dark song is a great movie. The end is out there but the music is genius and really creates the mood for the movie.
"Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil" is pleasant surprise. Currently on Netflix.
A Dark Song is in my top 5 Horror movie list.
THANKS :)
Great list.
I would like to recommend an obscure horror movie called...The Empty Man. This supernatural horror scared the bejeezes out of me.
YES. It's long movie (IMDb says 2 hours 17 minutes), but very worth it.
Just gave the trailer a spin, thanks guys, looks good.
I'm glad to see that The Autopsy of Jane Doe is appreciated here. I saw it on Tubi and I loved it. Brian Cox Never fails.
A dark song was amazing, thank you for recommending it.
Dude.
"Wyrmwood is like Mad Max with zombies."
It was right there.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe is the only one I knew of. Excited to watch the rest! All on my letterboxd watch list now.
Wyrmwood 1, The Revenant, Autopsy of Jane Doe and Behind the Mask are all pretty great bangers. (I have yet to see Wyrmwood 2.)
Jack, the sequel to Wyrmwood is worth seeing, for the life of me I can't understand the negative feedback it's been getting because it has the same pulpy pace of the first so if you liked the first you'll probably enjoy the second 🙂
@@namethestars Thanks. I'll check it out when I am able.
FINALLY! A list that included A Dark Song.
Lovely Molly!! Yes! Loved that movie but yes, it is dark.
Great recommendations! I've seen most of these, but it's great to see them being appreciated
somebody asked me why i like horror movies, and i couldn't answer, why do others like them?
The Revenant is SO GOOD! How did it remain so underground?? The DVD is somewhat rare too.
This is my new favorite Horror recommendation UA-cam channel!!
💯💣💥🔥
Lovely Molly was crazy- GREAT recommendation, as always Darren!!
About the film, "A Dark Song.."
This film is based off of very real beliefs centered around the Abramelin working that sits high on list of significant life events for serious practitioners of magick. Coming into knowledge and conversation with your Holy Guardian Angel is what it's all about. If somebody were to do the working for the same reason as the main character in this film, I can only imagine how disastrous it would actually be (without all of the supernatural events) It would still invite catastrophe.
Loved Summer of 84. I'd put The Clovehitch Killer, The Void, Psycho Goreman on this list.
@@JESSEALLEN77 you haven't watched Psycho Goreman yet?... "I WILL BATHE IN YOUR BLOOD"!
A dark song is really good, dark and different. Definitely would recommend
I have seen a good bit of these but not all. Good picks but the "assistant" is actually the one leading the ritual in A Dark Song AND i think it's worth mentioning that Wyrmood is a sequel!
Seen them all. Own 9 of them. Damn you, Summer Of 84.
The loved ones was a great watch. Thanks for the recommendation 👍
Lovely Molly is a great pick, disturbing and creepy. Most people have never heard of it so great job bringing some attention to it!
The Empty Man - Disney+, I highly recommend and very underrated
The signal is excellent. The reason each segment feels different is because there are three directors.
Great video! Can’t wait to dive into these movies!
Grave Encounters totally delivered. Very creepy, and one to watch in complete darkness :)
Those are definitely “hidden gems!”. I had only heard of two of them and had only seen one-“Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead.” (Had a good time with it).
Regards.
Where do people put an “I” in Darren. Seems so wrong lol
@@jeremyblackwater439 I agree, I've seen it spelled Darin, it does seem so wrong 😆
Love the mention of a dark song though it is widely misunderstood.....and am willing to explain if anyone has a problem understanding it
Thanks I found some I haven’t watched yet but I can’t find where to rent Lovely Molly or The Revenant. Any ideas?
I've seen 8/10 of these and totally agree with your recommendations!
How about Otis, its from about the time of behind the mask and the signal(2 of my faves)
