I have the diecast of Robby Gordon's car, and I'm a Special Olympics athlete! I got to compete at the 2017 Special Olympics Winter World Games in Austria last March, came home with the bronze medal in Floor Hockey!
If any of you are wondering, Joe Varde (who made his only Cup attempt that I can recall in this race) is a retired sports car racer. Today, he's the Team Manager for Rum Bum Racing in Grand-Am's Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
25:16/2:20:18 I remember watching this and when Jeff Gordon spinned on the first turn of the first lap, I was bummed, but when he wrecked at the last turn of the last lap, I got a good laugh because who else wreck on the first turn of the first lap and then wrecked at the last turn of the last lap. That's one to fifty thousand right there.
As a Gordon fan I remember how I felt in 2003 when this happened. I just felt right there that was the end of any hope of winning the title. You just didn't normally see things like that happen to Jeff ever at that time so I knew it was over. Michigan Bristol and Darlington where just the final nails in the coffin 💀💀💀
Excellent pre-race feature with Wally Jr about safety teams. Rather inexcusable that NASCAR would rather deflect medical responsibility to the circuit. The Holmatro Safety Team (now IndyCar's traveling medical crew) don't simply know each of the drivers, each MD knows each driver's medical history, including their past injuries. Imagine a visit to the doctor's office and your doctor is never the same person you got last time. Betcha didn't know that Casey Mears, who had a superb run in this race, was the man who replaced Alex Zanardi after that savage crash at the Lausitzring. Before he turned to stock cars, he aspired to be like Uncle Rick; in his CART IndyCar debut he was 4th in the Marlboro 500 at Fontana, driving for Bobby Rahal.
NascarNixon I do. I was 9 at the time and my 3rd year watching NASCAR and shockingly, he happened to be my favorite driver that season because I loved his paint scheme. I was set to meet him the following week before the Michigan race at Outback Steakhouse (as I lived there at the time) and when the crash happened, I was pissed and was (in my head) like "Seriously?! The week before our Meet & Greet, you wreck on Lap 1!". It was disappointing for me to watch, but I still have this race on VHS. I miss these good old days of NASCAR
Easily the most underrated American racing legend. Championships in IMSA, SCCA Trans-Am (in its heyday), and Grand Am, IndyCar Rookie of the Year, won the 1995 Michigan 500 over Al Unser Jr, IROC at Daytona, 5 overall wins at the Rolex 24, and many other successes.
I’ve always appreciated what Mike Helton did for NASCAR but wow, watching all the drivers urge for a different safety worker system while Mike just says what we have works for us was the most tone deaf thing ever…

ahh yes the good old days of nascar

God I miss the old NBC theme.
Somewhere in.the stands above the wrecked 24, is my father and I on either side of my friend Bob screaming with glee at his #24 rooting ass!
This era. Still the best music for showing the unofficial results ever.
Greg Stephens I want to know how to find the music ?
Being from NY I've always wanted a diecast of that 44 machine. Cool ride.
i turned 16 the day after this race and I remember my guy Robby Gordon sweeping the road courses
Too bad Kevin Hamlin left the 31 car 🚗 because Robby could have stayed and could have won more races for that team.
That was as bad of luck Jeff Gordon ever had, Damn I was pissed. Spun out on the first lap, first corner and on the last lap, last corner.

I loved it when he spun coming to the checker lol

This were the the days you looked up to the brickyard!

Alex Zanardi is a badass.
@@wzpu3283 Without exception, Alex is the most inspirational human being in sports. Period.
I have a tape with part of this race with the commercials intact.
Thanks for uploading :DD
Jeff Gordon spun on the first lap of the first turn. And gets wrecked by Kevin Harvick on the last turn of the last lap.
48:20 that gas fire in pit lane
Gordon got spun on both the first and the last lap... Ive seen bad luck but damn i woulda been one pissed dude if i was him.
Cody Hackl I was there cheering the whole way! My buddy was s 24 fan and it felt great to laugh at him. Right in front of us 😂
Last one was his fault
I actually had a premonition about Biffle spinning Gordon. Weird...
Good road course racing ty
I love you.
That happened right infront of my dad, my friend and myself. My friends a 24 fan and dad and I hate him. My friend went deaf that day!!!
What is the name of the song that plays in the end showing the results of the race ?
An edit of "Fuel" by Metallica; same song NBC/TNT used for the intro, just a different part of the song.
Bill Weber was so good, wish he didn't have a meltdown in a hotel that ruined his career.
What is the name of this song at 0:35?
The song is called Clocks, and it is by Coldplay.
Totally don't remember Kyle Petty's wreck.

Hey cool, more Foo Fighters at 5:30! (Low)
Carl Edwards won his 2nd straight truck race? Whatever happened to that guy?
Chris Kreager he got his ego hurt so he quit
Scott Pruett... Wow
The guy knows how to run road courses

Paul Menard's debut

48:25 The guy threw the can down and it’s on fire
Jeff Gordon lmfao
I keep debating myself on whether Jeff Gordon or Kevin Harvick is right.
If it was for the win, it was rough, but it may have been excused.
Deeper in the pack... yeah, uncalled for.
SUPEREEVEEMASTER they are both right
1:42:06 Cue The Duck!
Man, Newman just *REALLY* hates the glen's safety.
48:27
Kevin Harvick could of avoided Jeff Gordons car on that last lap but no, he had to be a jerk and push Gordon into the wall.
Rudy F dale sr made his career doing it, so why complain about harvick doing it?
Rudy F I was there cheering and laugh my ass off seeing him crash.
Ron Fellows In #1 Cup Car?
Tim Boggs yep
I miss the days when Harvick was racing like a jerk.
im sry but Bill Weber is annoying sometimes. I miss B.P. tho.
Worst race for Gordon fans (Jeff)
