One of the many things I admire about art is how it can start off as just a few grey shapes and then magically transform into something as amazing as this. Amazing work!
I hope everyone is paying attention to this channel and the work Trent is doing. We used to pay for that kind of videos, and he gives it for free, just like that. Thank you Trent!
I've been out of practice lately (too many other projects I've been juggling), but this makes me want to pick up the brush again! Thank you for showing this to us. I don't comment often, but I LOVE watching your videos. They're often the highlight of my week. Thank you, from one native Midwesterner to another!
I very much appreciate your kind words. Thanks!
My biggest weakness as an artist is definitely landscapes, so thank you so much for such a great tutorial!
The composition alone helped break it down so much.
holy hell I learned so much watching this, i been making landscapes alot lately and im improving lots. I really wanna implement some of the tips you just presented, Thanks so much Trent!
Right on!
Want more in depth workshops? Check out my LANDSCAPE PAINTING WORKSHOP on Gumroad! A real time breakdown of all of my techniques for painting locations in this art style. www.gumroad.com/trentk
this reminds me, I really need to practice landscapes more
Amazing Trent! you outdid yourself with this one you are an incredible instructor.
Ps: Please more Twilight Monk game videos. Can't wait to give you money, so I can play that beauty.
Thanks! What a nice comment to read right now. Much appreciated.
My main focus has been character illustration, but I'm trying to educate myself on environments and backgrounds. This was super helpful, thank you!
Thank you so much Trent, you inspire me to grow as an artist and designer. I want to work in the industry one day. All the best and excited for your game you are creating as well.
Thanks Trent. I learned a lot from this one.
6:44 this moment is almost Bob Ross type of thing
You are a blessing! This is exactly the type of style I want to learn
As always, you make amazing yt videos that's cover a lot of things. Thank's a lot Trent :)
Awesome tutorial! Love the modular workflow we get with digital!
Awesome!
Just want to add that you actually really have a great gradient options to use. 👌🤘
Thank you. It helps a lot.
Absolutely amazing and comprehensive. Looking forward to implimenting these tricks in my next landscape.
Hi! Thank you for your work!!!
Wow your drawings just take me to another world :)
Great Video, techniques look very applicable!! Thanks for sharing!!
This had been so incredibly helpful omg, lots of big and little things i learned !!!
Having put a lot of work into character art I’m recently looking more at scenery, backgrounds and perspective, and honestly the feeling of going back to square one in terms of skill level is really daunting… So this is a super helpful resource for me!
Great tutorial
YOU ARE AWESOME BROTHER.
Magical 🎉
I keep watching your videos and tutorials at work. They are amazing ❤️ Thank you for these
Youre very kind. Thank you for leaving such a nice comment.
Did y’all see him make a tiny gradient and then stamp the foliage texture over it and then copy paste 😂 genius omg
The cloud section of this tutorial was so entertaining 😆
New subscriber, great video!
Never thought about using a gradient layer over top 🙃lol Well thank you for that!
I love these kinds of videos. Being able to see workflow is very helpful!
They are generally not very popular unless I do some click baitey title. But I love doing them this way. Its a good amount of work. I spend 3x the amount of time editing as I do making the actual art.
These are my favorite kind of videos to watch so the extra effort is very much appreciated.
I've done rendered a ton after watching this, lol. 😅 I always appreciate seeing the process because even if your work leans more on the stylized look, everything can be applied to anything I've done and will do. well as there are things I didn't even know! Hiky heck, being able to change colors late late in a render... I can't 😂. Hope things are well at Aquatic Moon and Twilight Monk is still killin it!
Thanks Trent for such quality content. Its always a treat to watch you at work. You’ve definitely left a footprint on my art. I was always confident in character design but my landscape work was lackluster. With your tips and tricks that’s starting to change, thank you!
Great video. Looking at you rendering these lovely rock textures and trees was a pleasure. I am impressed by how simple and beautiful are your clouds. However, these twin trees in the foreground really irritate me.
dang where was this before my semester started 😅 im terrible at thumbnailsb
Would LOVE to see your approach to developing games. Do you sacrifice artistic intent for playability, or do you sacrifice playability to a extent to maintain your ideal artistic theme? Questions like that, etc.
Been a fan of your work since stumbling upon a piece on "Creed" in Wizard magazine, WAY back. So, I suppose in essence, it's completely fair to say, "Long-Time Fan", lol.
Gameplay first. Art second. But… with my new game I’m pushing the art a lot more than the previous one
Thank you for being someone with industry experience that doesn't seem to bend over backwards in an attempt to obfuscate their knowledge with obscure ambiguity.
Can't wait to play your game. =)
I am not really into signing art work...Just don't have good signature. It is amazing listening to artist that worked in the art field, that started comics when he was 17. Seem like a talented person, a prodigy...I would like to go more into this, though...Landscapes and such. I am wondering about buying art books or just look at skeletons to understand about atomy...Maybe I should learn more about the Golden ratio?
Thank you for this video! Every time I learn something new. Can I ask? What kind of tablet do you prefer? I mean graphic tablet or tablet with screen on it?
For drawing characters, I like to draw on screen. For just painting materials, I like my tablet.
I hope this is for the new Monkey Island concepts
so for like the first part, (the grayscale) are you just changing the color or is it different opacities, if so, is it the layer opacity or brush????? thanks!
Hey Trent, I'd love to hear your thoughts on OpenAI's Dalle2 and how this tool would affect illustrators and digital art in general. 🙏🏻
It’s going to make a lot of people think that they painted something they didn’t, and it’s going to increase the demand for stylized artists who have good storytelling in their designs.
❤️❤️😍🙏🏻👍💪💪🔥
Hey Trent, I loved the tutorial, and I have a single question. 15:07 when you move the trees to the background without moving the layers or having duplicates, it looks like you did it with a command + click on one of the layers, how did you do that? Is a thing a believed not to be possible in Ps thx for the content :D
He makes a selection of the rocks foreground by Ctrl+clicking it's later then erases the tree parts that are within that selection.
Hey Trent, i loved your previous workshops and youre good at explaining so im wondering if you would be interested in making sort of a rendering workshop in the future? Like how to render metal, wood, weapons etc different kind of materials or stuff.
I have that in my Hearthstone workshop. but I also have several videos on youtube about material studies.
@@TrentKaniuga ill check out the hearthstone workshop next then! thank you
Do u have a plan to switch platforms from mac to win? :)
I use both.
Is this adobe photoshop or what program is this
I know that the majority of the footage was sped-up, but around @8:10 I noticed that everything started to chug quite a bit. I was wondering if that was done by you or if the program itself started to chug. I only ask this because I have noticed this on my PC with Photoshop lately. I have a monster-rig too so their should be no slow-down.
It was intentionally slowed because I had to explain something in the audio along with the visual. You shouldn't have slowdown like that while working. I would burn that computer... or at least do a fresh reinstall.
i miss the music intro
Is that the same tablet gave it to you by wacom as gift just for to be your sponsor
No. This is one that I bought a few years ago. The last tablet Wacom sent me was the 16 inch display, which I think I gave away in a contest.
More Tutorials pls, or do us a course
I have tons of tutorials and a course at www.gumroad.com/trentk
i like your video i wanna ask, how do you duplicate the tree without creating new layer?
Option + control + drag a copy.
@@TrentKaniuga thankyou so much
hey trent
8:30
14:05
;)
8:05 "Harvey Wein..."
Oops LOL
There are things I didn't understand, why don't you show exactly the colors you are using? in the part on the sky, the color in the middle seems yellow, for the clouds, what would "airbrush" be? Where can I find it?
How di you do the "wisps thing 5:58?
11:30 how did you do that?
I don't want to seem rude but these things must be explained in a tutorial, they cannot be taken for granted, your are showing a lot of cool things, but you are not explaining them😕
I explain in greater detail in my landscape workshops: www.gumroad.com/trentk
