I am tired of hearing "black don't crack". There are many black people with wrinkles. Black not only cracks, but it bags and sags as well. Writing off a black woman or man's preservation with the cliché "Black don't crack" is a form of dismissal. Lena Horne looked that good at 80 because she didn't abuse herself with drugs, cigarettes, alcohol or overeating. There are plenty of black women and men who are in a wretched condition at 80...in fact, 80 is beyond the life expectancy of a black man or woman in America today and this show was taped over 20 years ago. Give this woman the respect she is due.

When met I Cicely Tyson it was at Lena's 80th Birthday party where I was the photographer. She was one of the notables there and she told me she liked being behind the camera as well. Before I photographed Miss Horne and her Birthday guests and friends, like Cleo Laine, Leslie Uggams, Eydie Gorme’ & Steve Lawrence, Joe Williams and the list continued, I was a bit nervous and Miss Horne just privately, asked “Why” with a satirical and southern-esque drawl as she smiled at me. I was at ease from then on.
