What a great tutorial for one of my favorites by Joan Armatrading. This is going to be quite challenging rhythmically when adding vocals. Thanks Ivor!!
Thanks Ivor, I am astounded to how attuned to all the subtleties of the songs chord changes and progressions your ear is. And I’m especially grateful that you take the time to explain things to those of us who couldn’t work them out given a couple of years. Cheers.
Another brilliant tuition from the impressionable Ivor, always wanted to learn this classic but never could fathom the chords, thank goodness you're here to show us how to play these, and so brilliantly put together with all the time and effort you put into teaching us the correct way to do it too, what more can I say, many more happy playing yers to you sir, 👍👍👍😊
I'm shocked at how easy it was to follow your lesson and then pretty much play the song - And I'm a pretty average player. I've listened to this song a thousand times over the decades and now looking forward to an outdoor song share. Thanks Ivor!
Ivor, No need to apologize for your singing . Your passion for music and what you do rings through in your sweet performance. This was so good. Ive never heard this song but you made me love it right away.
Love your lessons Ivor and can’t tell you how happy I am that you’ve done a Joan Armatrading one - my Godfather was her lead guitarist on tour in the 90s so I’m itching to get to grips with this one to make him smile! 😊
Thank you for your kind comment and I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying my lessons. Your Godfather will hopefully be able to show you the finer points of how to play this classic song. My version is a good starting point I think but I worked it out by ear so there may be some subtle bits I missed. Ivor
I have been looking for a lesson on this for a while. Thank you so much for showing people how to play this. Really appreciate it. I can't wait to learn this. Thank you.
Dude , stop apologising for your singing . It's the guitar playing we're all here for , and as always , that's bang on point . My arthritic fingers will never allow me the joy of barre chords, so I just watch and enjoy 😊
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been searching for someone who knows how to play this song for years. I’ve tried to learn it from a couple of videos of Joan Armatrading playing it live, but it was really difficult to see what she was doing. I’m so excited to finish learning this. I have some of it down, but you filled in a lot of the missing parts. 😊
Love your wonderfully inclusive teaching technique! Thanks so much for your help with this song. I plan to play it with my wife taking on the singing 😄
It's awhile since I mentioned me 1st guitar teacher but I took this in to him in the late 90s. He couldn't figure it out. She uses what I refer to as "open barre chords" and I believe it was outside of his box. It's been 20+ years and I still didn't realize it, until now. So, I shouldn't be so hard on him. Thanks again for a great lesson. Now, it's time to pick up my 12string.
Thank you really enjoyed that. As a rush fan I was surprised by the similarity to Alex lifesons playing . The guitar part could have came off hemispheres but I believe this predates it. Always liked this tune know I know why , thanks again 😁👍
I always use your stuff Great ,I couldn't play the Barre A with the stretching bass finger so I approached it with my little finger from open A ,keep up the good work
Cool...thanks for this, its a very helpful lesson because Love and Affection is quite a strange song; in fact, I heard it's two or three songs in one piece (?). A tough one to sing too; thanks for the vocal guide and clarifying the weird ' C#m (or E major 6th?) to Bb major 7 bit! Big up also to the Cat on backing vocals during the breakdown of the chords
Yes, they do like to be the centre of attention don't they, sitting on your lap, walking through the camera shot or meowing (singing) in the background. Got to love them though! Ivor
