  • Jazz St. Louis welcomes the amazing pianist Helen Sung for a guided listening session exploring pianists use of their left hand. Helen leads us through the history of jazz from early stride pianists like James P. Johnson to pianists that defined classic recordings of the '50s and '60s and beyond. None of the actual recordings are included in this video for copyright reasons but are linked in a Spotify playlist below so that you may listen along with Helen. This session was originally recorded as part of Jazz St. Louis' virtual residency series and was held in partnership with our friends at Jazz at Lincoln Center (jazz.org).
