    Hi BN..i Have a quick question for you. I have DVD's of tv shows, specifically Girlfriends that come with closed captioning but do not have subtitles. My partner is from Brazil and speaks great English but likes to have subtitles on so he gets everything that is being said. I actually enjoy it myself now that i'm used to it. I use MacX DVD Ripper Pro but from what I can see it only has the subtitle feature to copy in which the dvd's don't have. Is there a program to copy with closed captioning?

    Hey, great review! It is really refreshing to see someone give an honest review. Quick question, what if I want to burn the movie onto a DVD (I don't let my kids touch the originals. lol). Know any good software?

    Hi planning on purchasing this software. I just wanted to clarify something. After you dismissed the encryption dialogue box on the movies you had issues with, were you able to view/watch those movies?

    Hi BigNate84, Nice job on the UA-cam review! I purchased MacX Dvd Ripper Pro two days ago. I am really struggling with it on my iMac. I am totally updated with my computer and everything. But just trying to rip a couple of Downton Abbeys to save on my computer. I originally was using Handbrake and loved it for several years. Then it stopped working right. NO matter what I did. Then used "Ripit" for a while. Worked OK too. For some reason, that will not work. So I paid the $40 and the Ripper Pro download. I have now contacted the customer service via email. They sent back a reply to try and help. Did what they said and emailed them back with screen shots. So at this point, planning to get a refund if I can't get it to work.

    What should I do if I don't have a Mac but want to use this program, not Handbrake or Mac the Ripper?

    I have come across two problems 1. one movie it would only do 5-10 seconds of it and then complete it. 2. on another movie the program would crash every time I tried to load the disk in. Have you come across this?

    Great video and review. In another video you discussed how to set up a server in your home where you can save your movies and access them on your other tech items. How can I set this up and can I access my videos from anywhere in the country.

    Recently had issues with handbrake, so looking for an alternative. Not sure about the pricing, but...if it works, then it may well be worth it.

      +KatTheBooknerd If you want I can try and find a discount coupon for you. I have access to an affiliate portal. Let me check on that to see if they have any special offers going. I think it's a great value, especially for taking movies on the go without blowing through all my wireless data.

      +KatTheBooknerd There are a number of different packages you can buy with different options. But the base software package for MacX DVD Ripper is $59. That said, I believe this $30 discount is still active if you use this link: secure.avangate.com/order/cart.php?PRODS=4608492&QTY=1&AFFILIATE=53894&COUPON=MACXHC16. Let me know if that works for you. Good luck!

      +BigNate84 thanks, I got the regular discounted one. It came to £42 but hopefully it'll be OK. My main concern was sound wasn't working on the trial clips I ripped. And of course now I have full version, it's not even ripping the full film. Lol. I'll have a fiddle and see what I can do. Thanks so much for the offer though. Typical that I didn't see this reply until too late.

    Have you ever had issues with the software only ripping about half of what you chose to rip? I've tried SEVERAL dvds with the same result.
    My settings are: MPEG format, high quality, and using high quality engine, and recently started using the safe mode to see if that would help, but nothing seems to make it work as advertised for me...
    It really sucks after seeing all these stellar reviews, I buy it, and it doesn't work right on any DVD I have tried.
    I'm using an iMac mid-2011 with a 2.5ghz i5, and 12gb of ram. I even followed the guideline on the FAQ on their website of trimming down the video a bit if you're having issues with it only ripping about half of the title you chose, and still nothing working as advertised...
    Very frustrating..

      Yes. Be very careful. I have tried it on two separate computers. Every time it runs I get different results. I am trying to create ISO files from Personal home movies that I put on DVDs about 10 years ago. The DVDs are fine. They play fine. And if I drag and drop the VOB files off of the disks onto my computer they work fine. But when I run MacX to create ISO images I find that the VOB files have been corrupted. I will say that the MacX support team has been very responsive, but none of there solutions have worked. 1sy time It copies VOB 1 bur VOB 2 and 3 are blank. The next time It copies VOB1 and 2 nu VOB 3 is blank. The next time it seems to work but the video plays back choppy. However if Isimply drag the VOBs off the DVD onto my computer they play fine. I have tried this on about 20 different disks with the same problem.

    Hi. Thanks for the review. I do have a question: How can I rip a copy of National Lampoon's Vacation without the director commentary over-riding the video? Thanks!

    • @BigNate84
      @BigNate84  9 років тому

      bayouborn1 You just need to select the proper title. Try ripping in "safe mode".

    Hi Nate. First off, Thanks for the great video that was both informative and entertaining!
    It's very convenient that you used Mary Poppins in your tutorial run thru as that is the very movie I'm having trouble with. This is my first time ripping a DVD and I've tried high quality and Safe Mode. So far I've ran into two problems. The first was that out of a 2 hour plus movie the copy was only copying 1 hour and 10 minutes of the film. Safe mode seemed to fix that. However, the problem I can not seem to solve is that the audio play back does not match the video. Any help on this would be very helpful.

    I have region 4 PAL dvds i would like to watch on my mac book pro and other dvd players although you can only watch these movies on a multi region dvd player. Will this software allow you to convert the region 4 PAL dvd to a 0 (multi region) version + burn them to blank dvds so i can watch them anywhere ?? please help me if you can ):

      Thomas Scaling That's a very good question! Unfortunately I do not know the answer to it. All my DVD's are region 1. If I find anything I'll let you know.

    • @BigNate84
      @BigNate84  10 років тому

      I'm not in front of my iMac right now, but I believe there is an editor / viewer built in to the software that allows you to set in and out points if you don't want the entire movie. I remember playing around with that.

    I never had problems using Handbrake. VLC (Free), also gets rid of all the copy protection stuff. I already pay for my DVDs so I can't see me paying for a program like this just to copy them onto my Mac. Handbrake does the job really well. It's not as hard as you make it out to be in your video.

    I have over 1,000 movie titles in my collection, so payed full price for this software based on reviews like this, downloaded onto my Mac i-7 desktop with 8-core processor. Attempting to rip to MPEG-4 format for my mobile devices and am able to complete only about 5% (1 out of 20) of my movies. The rip starts out fine and going pretty fast (60-70 FPS), but typically at about 50% the rip slows to a crawl, then stops completely.
    The irritating part is that when I contact customer/tech support, I get a patronizing reply, but no substance or actual help. I've sent very detailed situational information with dozens of screen shots as requested by MacX, but all I get in response is another patronizing reply with no substance.
    So far, no help and no refund in sight.

    • @BigNate84
      @BigNate84  9 років тому

      EcoTecFuels That stinks! I'll help you out if I can. Just out of curiosity what movies did you attempt to rip and have problems with? If you send me a list I can see if I have any of those in my library. If I do then I can have you send over your import settings and I can do the same test on my system here. What versions of OS and MacX are you running?

    THE WINDOWS' VERSION DOESN'T SUPPORT RECORDING FUNCTION YET. Since I needed that function, I asked for a refund, which they advertise. THEY ONLY ALLOW A REFUND OF 50% of the purchase price claiming it is due to the cost of processing fees. BEWARE !!!!

    I bought the MacxDVD Pro to copy some family videos of our children into a more modern MP4 format. Certainly not a difficult project, I thought. But, MacxDVD delivered one crash after another. One stall after another. It was simply not up to the task.
    I use a recent model iMac, 2.7GHz Intel, 24GB memory, OS X 10.8.5.
    I found MacxDVD to be a waste of $40. When I appealed to the company, they refused to honor their 30-day refund policy and requested screenshots. I provided the screenshots, and the company still refused.
    I would not recommend this program.

      @BigNate84  10 років тому

      Thanks for the feedback David Henderson. It's good for people to hear the good and the bad so they can make an informed decision. Can you give more details about the nature of what you were trying to accomplish and the nature of the crash? I don't work for MacX or anything but my main purpose for creating UA-cam videos is to help people out. If there's anyway I can help let me know. Since I have the program I can do some trouble shooting on my end.
