Reminds me of the story of the blacksmith & his apprentice. Blacksmith, with tongs holding a red hot piece of iron on the anvil. He nodded his apprentice and said "when I nod my head you hit it with the hammer!"

Well Brownie will make a lot of good whole hog sausage once she weans this litter and eats finisher feed for a month or two.
My father always said you market the farm’s grain and hay through your livestock. Do a great job of raising crops and then you’ll have more opportunity to raise the livestock that pays the bills.

Pete, just want to say that we (Jerry and I ) have been watching your blog on utube for several years. Each show is a learning experience, and we mean that in a positive way. I have been inspired by your philosophy and your hard work. Maurine is a retired nurse executive and I am retired from Ford Motor. Being in our late seventies we are no strangers to hard work and the enjoyment of doing something that you truly enjoy. Please continue to produce your blog, it is the source of enjoyment for many. Thanks and have a wonderful week.

Sorry to hear about Brownie's piglets loss! I understand both the issue with the performance of an animal and from the fact that sometimes I miss those things. I let our cows out on new grass about 3 days ago, grass is looking good out here in the midwest. Wow, that wagon spindle was a real job to get off, but you and your dad got it. I thank you for sharing your video with us, and I hope your Sunday and week goes well.

It's ideal to be physically close as in next-door neighbors. Many children are close to their parents emotionally and spiritually, but in the next town, state or country. Makes it harder for the kind of interaction we're honored to see here.

My hopes surged when Pa introduced "Rosie" (the rosebud) to the struggle. Was dismayed when even "she" was denied. Well, there's always the angle-grinder. Again, "no dice" until the (tandem!) "cold chisels" were brought to bear. Where there's a will, there's a way. And with TWO iron-clad "wills" operating, that spindle had no "choice" but to relent. Always enjoy your videos. Thank Pa!

It was nice seeing you work with your Dad. My Dad is also a fan of heating/cutting/welding. He is a retired welder. One weekend I was visiting him in WV when I took the turn into their gravel road a little to tight and ripped the rear shock hanger off of my 93 F150 on the edge of a metal culvert. I thought it was a disaster as I needed to drive back to TN later in the day. We sent my wife after a new pair of shocks and I helped Dad. In a couple of hours he had cut the old hanger off, straightened and welded it, and welded it back to the rear end. We installed new shocks and it was good as new. Never underestimate the value of a good welder.

Hey Pete, love your dad's press!! No motors, no hoses, just good old mechanical advantage!:) Just before you slit the tube I was thinking the same thing. As Issac says, " it's only steel"! ( ICWeld) In our family we have people that don't understand the benefits of making their own repairs. "We have a guy to do that". The tremendous cost savings and the satisfaction of completing a difficult task seem to have gotten lost. Thanks Pete!

Hi Pete! Ken here from Nova Scotia. 2 piglets, guess that’s the luck of farming. I agree, you do need good breeding stock to have reliable results from the breeding stock. Good strong healthy animals from proven good jean pool will help you a great deal. I like seeing you and your dad working on projects.
