Speaking Shikomori: The Basics

  • Comoros is a beautiful, relatively unknown archipelago of three islands in the Indian Ocean. While a great many people speak French, especially in the capital city of Moroni, the local language Shikomori is more commonly spoken in the villages.
    The languages varies on each island , but here are some of the basic Shikomori greetings you'll hear on Grande Comore, the big island.
    A special thanks to everyone who helped me compile this rough video.

    Yedje sounds like Nairobi Sheng niaje it means how are you doing, or hello sheng originated from Swahili in Kenya.

      Yedje means how are you too in comoros, but we don't say yedje to old people we say yedje only to young people . It's cheng too in comoros. Our langage is on of the swahili diactect. We are brothers Comoros, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Mozambique... we share the same culture and langage but there is a little different from a country to an other . May Allah bless all us .

      @@marhaban2012 yes we are plus we both have a similar history of the Bantu expansion and also from interactions with Arabs, Persians, Indians, Chinese, French and Portuguese influences during Vasco da gama’s time.

      Exactly, the Ki komori come from thé swahili langage, it's a diactect among the swahili diactect. Na wewe Karibu komoro.

      Indeeed we share a lot of vocabularies in common. If you listen closely to us speaking slowly you will definitely be able to pick up some words and consequently upu may guess the general idea. That's what I do with Swahili hhh

      The ki komori come from the swahili langage and most of the Comorian come from Est Africa especially Tanzania, zanzibar and Kenya we share everything with you brother and we are proud of that, ki swahili is our mother langage brother. Karibu komoro .

      It's one of the swahili diactect, ki swahili is our mother langage and we are proud of that, most of the Comorian people come from Est Africa especially Tanzania, Zanzibar and Kenya. We are your your swahili brother from the other side of East Africa in 4 islands called Komoro .
