The only Scotty that is actually Scottish. Good to see Martin Quinn playing the iconic role. I'm loving it.
Did you know that it was James Doohan that made the character Scotty and made him Scottish? When he was cast as the engineer he said that they had to be Scottish.
He actually kind of looks like James Doohan. Impressive!
So does his son.

If you ever see Star Trek new voyages, Doohan's son, Chris, plays Scotty and does a fantastic job of emulating his father.

@@matthewh7842 Martin Quinn is actually Scottish. James Doohan was Canadian and Simon Pegg is British. Quinn’s accent is authentic and the writers want Scotty to be more realistic and knowledgeable and updated. Things have changed since the 1960’s.

Dr McCoy has to show up sooner or later. From the books, even though they might not be canon, Kirk and Bones knew each other prior to their posting to the Enterprise.
Oh I cannot wait for McCoy and Spock's friendly banter.
I just hope they have at least a throwaway line about his one night stand with a hot Trill gymnast

The colony set is the same set they used for the town of Margrave Georgia in Reacher season 1. they just added some metallic stage bits but i recognized the gazebo
They used to say the Professor on "Gilligan's Island" could make a nuclear reactor with some chewing gum, some aluminum foil and two coconuts. Scotty could build a warp drive and not need the chewing gum.
If this show runs long enough to season 9-10. I hope we will eventually see them all join the enterprise. Scotty, Bones, Sulu etc.
I genuinely think that the last episode of SNW should be the day Kirk takes command….
Kirk: “I relieve you, sir.”
Pike: “I stand relieved.”
And the closing titles should be a recreation of the TOS titles, with the Kirk speech.
I cannot wait to see whom is playing McCoy.
I'd expect Bones to show up next, perhaps already friends with Kirk at Starbase One with a front seat to the Carol Marcus stuff happening?
I liked when Scotty was sat relaxed then straightened up when he found out Pike was a captain

He has a bit more than a cameo. He's in a lot of it, and arrives fairly early.
Okay, Quinn's a Scot. Fine, glad for the man. But I've already read too many comments dissing James Doohan's accent. An accomplished radio actor and dialectician, even Doohan admitted he couldn't unleash "the guid Scots tongue" without making most Stateside viewers go "Whunh?" in chorus. Find the TAS episode where he sings in Welsh...in character no less.
Looks like we're on our way to a new TOS!
The storyline is starting to make sense. It was Kirk who took command of the 1701 after Pikes accident, and I am hoping that they give us an original series reboot with new storylines. I always felt that the original series ended too quickly.
@DS9TREK, you forget that Starfleet classified that encounter. The Federation was healing from the war with the Klingons and wasn’t able to deal with them yet.

She’s probably got another couple of centuries to go. I’m surprised she hasn’t shown up on “Discovery”.

Well, he was able here to jury rig a thingy [I've turned 71 and words are stating to escape me] for more power, and a few hundred years later he jury rigs a thingy for faster than light travel. Quite an engineer.

Y'know... I'm not happy with the casting for Kirk, and that's okay i'll get over it, but I'm very pleased with their choice for Scotty!
The finale was good, I do not like not having a firm ending though. Through 2 seasons, Strange New Worlds has become my favorite Trek series ever, might be my favorite show all around right now, and Captain Pike has become my favorite captain (please keep him around as captain for MANY more seasons)
Even though the show is mostly about the women (some extremely annoying) who aren't captain.

Cameo? He is likely going to stay on the ship since his is gone and this would set it up for when Kirk takes the Ship in 6-7 years

Dramatically it’s an unavoidable low-stakes issue in an action prequel show to have characters that can’t die, which so far are Pike, Kirk, Kirk’s brother, Captain April, the doctor and nurse, Uhura, and now Scotty. At least only Pike knows he can’t die. And what about the waste of training time in not using a brilliant engineer in Kirk’s Enterprise in Uhura? TOS version of her is only on the bridge. Maybe they could retcon and say in the several “future” missions (where Nichelle Nichols is not on the bridge) that she will be helping out in the engineering when she’s not running comms. And, what happened to the virtual all-female bridge after Pike? Did Kirk have a problem with that?
Definitely not, Kirk respects femmes.
In the animated series, Uhura was in command on, I think, two episodes.
I forsee a great disturbance in the wokeness if they replace the standing (SNW) female bridge crew with their T.O.S. male counterparts in future episodes and seasons.

Gorn? They didn't show up till "Arena" TOS. What happened? These writers couldn't come up with an original thought on their own?
The writers are doing a great job and explaining the events that lead up to the classic TOS episode arena.
@@Globalman43they're not. In Arena none the characters have seen the Gorn before. None of them.

You forget that Starfleet also classified the Pre Kirk encounters with the Gorn for a reason until Starfleet had found a way to deal with them and the Federation was rebuilding from the Klingon War that had a devastating impact. Another long term conflict had to be avoided and resolved. Only Spock, Uhura, and Scotty had seen the Gorn face to face and ordered to not reveal that until it was declassified as a result of the Enterprise’s encounter with the Gorn when Kirk was Captain.

Not so much a miscast but Scotty is older than Kirk, this Scotty isn’t.
Scotty is supposed to be about ten years older than Kirk, now he's ten years younger. For that matter why is young Lieutenant Kirk being played by a 41 year old? Hopefully they at least won't play him for laughs, like they did in the movies. Go back and watch the original movies, Scotty wasn't some goofball, he was the sort of hardass that was prepared to carry out General Order 24 to rescue a landing party. (General Order 24 - The systematic annihilation of all life on an inhabited planet.)
PS - The next time someone starts peddling bilge about Starfleet not being a military organization, remind them about General Order 24.

Didn't we get 3 or 4 episodes from TOS from the old west or Nazi Germany? It's fine if you don't like the show, but let's not pretend that this is even close to the dumbest shit Trek writers have ever given us.

The Nazi thing at least at the excuse of a human giving the aliens the idea. And the Wild West thing was taken the Human mind too.

In the Solo movie the L3-37 female robot’s consciousness was put into the millennium falcons computer system...so credit for Han Solo’s Kessel run was given to a woman? Now Scotty’s engineering wizardry will be attributed to Pelia because he was her student?!!! This stuff just feels so forced, just stop it!
Because there has never been a female instructor at any institute of learning? You are reading FAR too much into this and need to chill

In a mostly awful season it was pretty good.
