I became a member primarily for the insurance because I say it's basically a $15,000 insurance plan for $27 a month. But I worry that they'll do some shady thing, like if my camera breaks then they'll say "the fine print says we don't cover this kind of breakage" or something.
Joined the PPA in 2019. It's been one of the better investments of time and money that I've done. I've gone through the certification process for Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) and found it particularly useful. There's a wealth of knowledge in PPA to learn from and a wonderful community that is centered around helping and advancing the skills of individuals & businesses.
Thank you Joe! used your referral and now Im a PPA member and I sleep better because of it! Thank you for always been a good guide for all our photography needs.
Good for youJoshDidItt ! Once you have signed in to your dashboard - click on the Benefits tab and you will be able to find a complete breakdown of everything you need to know about the insurance.
I guess the question I have, being an enthusiast, is: is it worth it for enthusiasts? I mean with some of the plans, they do offer insurance up to a decent amount, both for gear and liability insurance assistance. Plus discounts on things you may need, but then again, if you're a pro, it may be easier to justify the $25-$200 per month membership fee, but for an enthusiast, who doesn't rely on their camera to make money, maybe not. I may join however, for the insurance primarily anyways, as I already pay a little extra through my homeowner's insurance for my gear only, not liability, so it may benefit me in the end, but for some, it may not. For me, having grown my lighting setup alone, that is starting to add up to a considerable amount of money, and the fact that I travel with my gear a lot (domestically currently) that is also a considerable risk, so for the insurance reasons alone, it may be worth it for me in the end). I will say this though about the homeowner's insurance / renter's insurance policies (and this may depend on the company but I've found it to be similar with many of the major ones): If the gear is for non-commercial use, then in many cases, you can add it as a "valuable personal property" extension to your existig policy (such as you would with things like expensive jewelry perhaps). But if it's being used for commercial purposes, or you purchased it under your "company" name, then likely it won't be covered as it's considered for commercial use at that point (of course there are some gray areas where you can probably get by, especially if you are doing this as a weekend, or part-time job on a sole-proprietor basis, then it may still qualify, but you will have limits on how much you can insure and the decutibles may be higher, so more risk to you.)
Honestly H R - it has nothing to do with being a Pro or not. It really is a no-brainer either way. The equipment insurance alone justifies the cost of membership but every bit as valuable are the educational opportunities the are constantly updated.
Thank you for the code. Just used it to sign up today. Just confused because I'm not sure are we suppose to add our gear to prove we have it to be insured, or do we prove it when it's needed insured? I don't need anything insured, just curious.
Great question The Principal Officer ! In my opinion, the organization still holds a lot of value for international members. As an international member - As an International member, you'll get: Subscription to the electronic edition of Professional Photographer magazine Access to all of the online education Online referral database listing All of the Business Resources Contracts and Copyright Resources Weekly newsletter and you get all of this at a reduced rate compared to the US Membership since you won't be able to take advantage of the insurance programs. I just signed up. For the insurance, after I activate it, do I need to upload my receipts of my gear or anything?
