I love your videos. Really shows the Egypt I fell in love with.

I know I would miss Egypt so much if I left, it was one of the reasons I never left to begin with-I just couldn't tear myself away 😅 The Egypt I show is indeed the Egypt I love, the real Egypt, not those instagramy videos by tourists 😆
@@Gventures My husband wants to get his citizenship before we go back so sadly, I have to wait for a year or two...I miss his family a lot, the people, the simplicity...I am living vicariously through you right now HAHAHA :)
"Mosabaha" is another word for hummus, and they can't confuse it with chickpeas. Zooba is great! 10/10 Sweets (e.g. kunafa & basbousa) are usually made with ghee, so careful if you're vegan/vegetarian (idk what's the difference between them 😂)
Ahaha, well they might be confused as to what I am talking about if I say "mosabaha" here though, as they don't say that in Egypt. I just asked my Egyptian bf and he had no idea what that was. We googled it though, and I guess that word is more commonly used in the Levant, but Egyptians aren't so familiar with that term/don't use that word here. Indeed most sweets here are used with ghee, which makes them vegetarian. That is why I listed both desserts (and molokhia) as vegetarian and not vegan - because they likely contain ghee. Vegetarians don't eat the flesh of an animal - so they don't eat any meat/fish, etc. But vegetarians can eat products that come from an animal, like milk, eggs, cheese, etc. Vegan do not consume ANY products that come from an animal; that means no meat of course, but also no eggs, cheese, dairy, butter, ghee, etc. Some very strict vegetarians don't even consume honey! Because it comes from bees / bees make it.
Very comprehensive tour. I think Egyptian food suits well veggies. I am not being biased at all. But as you well shows us, plenty of dishes veggie based. There are historical roots to that esp Christian based
You have to visit Alexandria for seafood if you are into it. I would recommend to try grilled Tilapia fish ( samak bolti mashwi ), boiled blue crab ( kaboria masloa'a) and tajin seafood with double cream. They are insanely delicious. :D Best seafood restaurants there are fish market, the Greek club, El Kataa'a. There are also some vintage Greek and Italian restaurants in downtown like Santa Lucia, Santorini in Helton corniche hotel ( a bit to the east ). Please try Sobia from Mecca ( a fresh juice shop ) and Sugar apple with pistachio ( halawet el eshta bel fosdok ) from Hassan ( another fruit shop in downtown ). Enjoy your time in Egypt.
Wow, that's a lot of recommendations, thank you! I have been to Alex a few times, I actually rode my motorcycle from Cairo to Alex and ate some seafood the last time I was there. Next time I'm in Alex I will have to try some of these places ❤
Great video 😉Yes there are several vegan dishes in Egypt. My boyfriend Louka comes from Egypt, too. He is coptic. And the Copts are fasting several weeks in the year. They eat vegan before Easter and before Christmas they eat vegan too but they are allowed to eat fish.
Thanks! Been living here for 2 years now, I love it 😊 My bf is also Egyptian. Strange about the fish thing, I have several friends who are Copts and they don't eat fish during those times
notice that Hommos el sham's original name is (Halabessa) but for some reason most people refer it to levant (el sham) which is actually not right because its 100% Egyptian
Oh sorry, but I don't think I'll ever make that video. Firstly, I am not even sure I know what gluten is 😅 But if it is what I think it is (breads, pastas, dough, etc.), there is very little gluten free food in Egypt. Bread is a main staple of food here and eaten with almost everything. Most of their desserts are not gluten free, I'm pretty sure. I guess you can always just eat meat and rice, those are gluten free I think.
Hmm, I don't know much about what they grow here, or agriculture in general 😅 But I know they grow some stuff further south near Luxor, things like sugar cane. I did make a video in a little market in downtown showing some vegetables and the butcher though ua-cam.com/video/G3sUf8UK_zI/v-deo.html
@@Gventures thank you, I'll checked that out. Also, thank you for showing us Egypt's NEW infrastructure which in turn will grow their economy in a huge way. Just to let you know, you are the first Female Traveler who has had the BEST experience in Egypt. The Males travelers don't have the same issues as women, however with new improvements of their economy I'm certain that the Egyptian Men mindset about women will change as well. You are Soooooo.. informative about your experiences. 😃💯💫💫💫
@@lifestylechanges1105 Thank you! But, well, that's not entirely accurate, as I know plenty of women that have had incredible experiences here in Egypt. In fact, a few of them have decided to stay and live in Egypt because they love it so much, just as I did. They just aren't making vlogs 😅But I have also seen a few videos by women who enjoyed Egypt. I know that Egypt does have a lot of negative attention online though, by both men and women. I think most "content creators" are just looking for views, so everyone writes clickbait titles like "harassed!" or "scammed!" just hoping people will watch their video. In reality, it's just people asking them if they want to buy souvenirs or take a horse ride. Not exactly harassment or a scam 🤣But eh, it is what it is.
Egyptian food is honestly so layered with thousands of years. Mostly our food is vegan because people didn’t afford probably to eat meat so they invented delicious vegan dishes.
I need to go on a food tour of Cairo with you . Ive been to Luxor many times and always been disappointed with the food .. maybe all the good stuff is in Cairo !
Ahaha. Yeah, Luxor isn't my favorite city....for food or anything else 😅 I know it has a lot of history which is incredible, but because of that it also has WAY too many tourists everywhere, the food isn't all that great...and they don't have Uber motorbike! So, I don't love it 😂
This one took a long time and was a lot of work. I upload one video every week, but I have to go out and film, edit, make the thumbnail, etc. all in one week. I also have a life to lead: I have to work, go to Arabic class, chores, gym, small social life, etc. Which leaves me with very little time 😆 So I probably won't be making another one like this for a long time, but good to know you enjoyed it! If I have more time in the future, it would be nice to make a video like this for desserts, but I don't see that happening for a LONG time 😅
I loved the video, one of my favourite dishes is the aubergine that was featured, it seems to be a very popular dish in Cairo and I am desperately trying to find the recipe so that I can reproduce it at home in the UK Can you help please?
Aubergine? Are you talking about moussaka? Just google Egyptian moussaka online, there are plenty of recipes, but of course it varies according to taste and who is making it

Thank you for the information! Yes I know many people do eat meat with these items (like molokhia), which is why I put that warning in the comments about it likely being made with a broth made from meat, because it is usually served with meat. I love Alexandria! ❤
Unfortunately I don't. It's something you would have to ask the server about, like I mentioned. You could try Zooba's and see if they offer 100% vegan options. It is tough, because they use meat broth in a lot of things, I think. Finding vegan Egyptian food isn't extremely difficult, but Egypt is certainly no vegan lovers paradise either. You do have to be careful what you consume because of that meat broth, even if it appears to be vegan or vegetarian 🤦♀️
6:00 fun fact the molokhoya was being given to war prisoners “cuz they thought molkhya is boniness” but when the prisoners liked it we started eating it . We were disgusted by the texture of molokhya too😭
Do you have a link or something with this story? I'm interested in reading about that. I know I read about how it dates back to ancient Egypt, so it's been being eaten here a long time, but I never stumbled across this prisoner of war story
You're right. It's always been there. Mohammed Ahmed restaurant (AKA Benyamin) in Alexandria and a few restaurants had it.... But, it wasn't very popular, its popularity continues to rise to this day. Toum/Tomeya wasn't popular until the early 2000's... Baba Ghanouj wasn't very common in Egypt, in the seventies and eighties... Now it's everywhere.
very nice video make me so hungry so i will come to eat you😂.. But you did not contact the strong phehronic food yet>>>>FESEEKH😂🐬🐟🦈. Happy new year in Maser❤
Not sure about gluten free food, there are some options but it's not ABUNDANT. One of the main staples of an Egyptian diet is bread. Not sure how they make falafel. Foul is eaten for breakfast but usually with bread, otherwise it's just a bean paste. Maybe just fruit, veggies, rice and meat will be your options (if you aren't vegetarian).
Not that I know of, but they might. Zooba was the closest thing I have heard of, but of course it's also vegetarian. Egyptians honestly eat a lot of meat, or use animal products like broth made from animals, and ghee/butter/milk/cream, etc.
Did I even mention juices in this video? 😆I can't remember. Sugarcane juice is great though, and popular in many countries around the world. My first time having it was in Vietnam
@@AndrewTota No I've never been to Iraq. But many countries have similar dishes and it can be called by different names. I've had it in Turkey and in Greece
@@Gventures oh yes . Mhashy’s origin is actually turkish. We took the dolma from them and instead of stuffing it with meat we put rice . That was like when we were part of the ottman empire .
Lol, well I can't be 100% sure, but it seems to me that a lot of Egyptian dishes incorporate some sort of meat based broth. If I am wrong though, point that out! Vegetarians and vegans will love to hear that 😅
@Gventures you are correct, meat-based broth is heavely used in Egyptian cuisine now. But it seems the ancient Egyptian diet was basically bread, beer and fish!

He is stating that konafa dates back to the Coptic era of Egypt and was originally used by churches during festivals, then it was later distributed to the region during the Fatimid era of Egypt. Additionally, I would like to highlight that the Levant konafa, specifically "Konafa Nabulsia and Shamia," is very different in concept from the Egyptian konafa. The Levant region includes countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Palestine. Konafa Nabulsia and Shamia are specific types of konafa associated with the city of Nablus in Palestine and the broader Levant region. It's noteworthy that the concepts and possibly the recipes for these variations of konafa vary across regions and cultures. If you have any specific questions or if there's anything else you'd like to know about konafa or related topics, feel free to ask! @@Gventures
@@glowingdesert2171 Thank you, I appreciate that. ❤ I actually have read quite a bit online about kunafa, and I know they vary from region to region. For many ancient dishes I know people debate about the origins, and in my opinion it's anyone's best guess as to where it TRULY started, as no one can transport themselves back to that time to know. But there is history and evidence to back various claims. I find it interesting to research these things and learn.

Thank you very much for this video, it was super helpful! ♥
Awesome, glad to hear that!
All these foods attached to beautiful memories. Most i have a hard time recreating in the US. Feteer with black honey on the rooftop in Fayum, Egyptian falafel for breakfast, Moolakia i REALLY wanted to like but never could 😆, rolling mashi with my mother in law ( i really want to make zucchini and eggplant mashi but I can't find small ones here). I love your videos. Really shows the Egypt I fell in love with.
Aww, thank you so much lady! It does sound like it's bringing back a lot of nostalgia. I hope you can make it back again sometime soon! I know I would miss Egypt so much if I left, it was one of the reasons I never left to begin with-I just couldn't tear myself away 😅 The Egypt I show is indeed the Egypt I love, the real Egypt, not those instagramy videos by tourists 😆

@@Gventures no pressure and no worries! I absolutely get it! ✨️
"Mosabaha" is another word for hummus, and they can't confuse it with chickpeas.
Zooba is great! 10/10
Sweets (e.g. kunafa & basbousa) are usually made with ghee, so careful if you're vegan/vegetarian (idk what's the difference between them 😂)
Ahaha, well they might be confused as to what I am talking about if I say "mosabaha" here though, as they don't say that in Egypt.
Because it comes from bees / bees make it.
the ckeckbeas paste you want usually will be found in syrian or libanise resturnat with the name of mesbaha
Egypt is my Homeland 🇪🇬
Ahhh thank you for making this video!!
Haha, my pleasure!
Best seafood restaurants there are fish market, the Greek club, El Kataa'a.

Patiently awaiting the gluten-free Food in Egypt video :)
Very good video nice
Thank you!
The food in Egypt is very interesting. Can you produce a video on the fruit and vegetables in Egypt? Thank you. Great video,! 😄💯💫💫💫

I want to try many of these dishes... But ugh.... the meat broth.... Do you know places that will be able to serve with vegetable broth? (Vegan here)
Unfortunately I don't.

What about gluten free food I have celiac
Not sure about gluten free food, there are some options but it's not ABUNDANT. One of the main staples of an Egyptian diet is bread. Not sure how they make falafel. Foul is eaten for breakfast but usually with bread, otherwise it's just a bean paste. Maybe just fruit, veggies, rice and meat will be your options (if you aren't vegetarian).
I love you. you are so fun to watch
Do they have 100% vegan restaurants in Cairo
Not that I know of, but they might. Zooba was the closest thing I have heard of, but of course it's also vegetarian. Egyptians honestly eat a lot of meat, or use animal products like broth made from animals, and ghee/butter/milk/cream, etc.

Authentic Egyptian food is either vegetarian/vegan- or fish-based, all meat/chicken-based food are exported to my knowledge 😂
Lol, well I can't be 100% sure, but it seems to me that a lot of Egyptian dishes incorporate some sort of meat based broth. If I am wrong though, point that out! Vegetarians and vegans will love to hear that 😅
