Oh, one more thing... The German commander also ordered a monument to be built for SERBIAN soldiers after the battle was over! As far as I know, that is the only case an army raised a monument to honor the enemy.

It's been a theme from most from the US, our school systems are garbage. We learn very little of our own history and even less on a world scale. Stumbling upon Sabaton was a gift for many of us reigniting a love of history, and giving glimpses of what we missed.

bubble system. "you get the basics, now go get out there and do something", even here in germany, atleast when i finished school about, sheesh, 14 years ago, we had our history lessons about the wars but afterwards thinking of it, it felt like "you see what this stupid mf'er has done? dont do that." i also dont expect americans to know european geology, same thing i know about american geology, you guys just put up a map and pretty much just went with horizontal and vertical lines for a whole continent, if it works why not.

After the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki front, an army of 700,000 soldiers was thrown out of the war, and Germany ordered a general retreat. Emperor Wilhelm, outraged, sent a telegram to the Bulgarian emperor: "62,000 Serbian soldiers have decided to go to war. Shame!"
It was recorded that the Bulgarian soldiers, seeing the Serbian soldiers, whom they thought were finished in 1915, attacking, threw down their weapons and ran away shouting that "the dead are coming"

I just want to point out that Sabaton played this song live in Serbia, Novi Sad at Exit Festival, which is held in Petrovaradin Fortress (aka medieval fortress) so it was quite dope. You have a band that plays the song about soldiers defending medieval fortress\city playing at medieval fortress. It was wild.

World history is mostly Serbian by fate. Slavs and Serbs were soldiers for Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Otoman Empire, Mongolian Empire, German and Austrohungarian Empire. Even NATO empire. Belgrade was destroyed and Rebuild over 70 times. In WW1 1/3 of ppl died. In WW2 for 1 German soldier wunded 50 Serbs were executed. For 1 dead 100 Serbs. In Otoman Epire every 5 years kids were taken as blood tax to become muslim soldiers. A Serb started WW1 trying to liberate his ppl. So Serbs learn history by living it as every fiew generation have a war to fight. This is why we sing when sad and cry when happy.

t was not just the 10th but also the Sremski volunteer battalion and what remained from the Belgrade gendarmerie that performed the counter attack on the railroad positions, and these were young men , boys mostly .... for example the Sremski Volunteer Battalion (SVB) was made of boys as young as 14-15 years old + even some women like Sofija Jovanović.... Most of the 10th , SVB and Gendarmerie was cut to pieces and destroyed in that battle.... in total there was around 16.000 people organized in to the Cobined Belegrade Defence Troops , only around 5.000 would survive until the end of the war

After the attempt to defend Belgrade, the Serbian army retreats with terrible losses in the worst winter through Albania to the Greek island of Corfu, where the allies evacuated it at the great insistence of Russia. In order for the Serbian army to reach the Albanian mountains, the Battle of Mojkovac took place, also known as "Serbian Thermopylae", where a small number of Montenegrin Serbs held off the main body of the Austro-Hungarian army for three days. The Serbs were recuperating in Corfu, only to be sent to the Thessaloniki front, which they broke through in 1918 and thereby brought victory to the Allies in the First World War. Field Marshal Makenzen buried the defenders of Belgrade and erected a monument to them, unique in the world as the only monument erected to the enemy. There are still plenty of people like Major Gavrilović among the Serbs.

I am partly, or mostly of Serbian heritage, depending how you look at it and my grand granddad actually fought in this war and was at Belgrade. So there's more to the story, while it sounds romantic that the whole defense was for the glory of Belgrade the real truth was it was a gamble on Serbian side. Serbs knew the French are coming from the south to reinforce them and bring supplies but they didn't know if they are gonna make it in time. IF French made it in time, combined they could probably defeat the Germans and the Austria or at least keep the fights at stalemate however the option number 2 would have horrific consequences, IF French fail to come in time, Serbs would lose the town, Germans would cut off the rest of the Serbian force (look at the beginning of the video) and the French would be left on their own in an unfamiliar territory, so basically casualties would be war ending on the Southern front. At some point Serbs figured it's too big of a risk to gamble and decided to retreat so they can regroup in the south with the French but to do that they had to keep Germans in Belgrade a little while longer while rest of the army finds their way to the French. Major Gavrilovic and his regiment were left with this suicidal plan to fight in Belgrade while everyone else retreat, all they had to do is delay the Germans and die. So it was not really some sort of pointless suicidal last stand out of honour but it was a sacrifice that saved thousands of lives and won the war later on. My grandad was among the ones that retreated and probably would not survive the war if not for these guys. However, the testament how bloody, insane and traumatic this whole war is, when the war was over, my granpa survived then killed himself due to PTSD only few months later. At the time no one took PTSD or mental trauma seriously, suicide rate among survivors was all time high.

This is not the first reaction video
    I have watched on UA-cam
to the song Last Dying Breath
    by Sabaton.
But this is the first one where I make this comment.
You only know that you are a very good heavy metal band.
when you can make people like your music
    even who are normally
    not heavy metal fans..
To be completely honest, my interest was initially only aroused when it was about Serbia.
But since I have listened to several songs by Sabaton that were not necessarily always about Serbia.
I have come to the conclusion that I have become a fan of theirs to a certain extent.
    As a Serbian,
it goes without saying that my most favorite songs of them are
    "til the last dying breath"
    "Lady Of the Dark.".
    And
    " the night witches".
And a song about a moment of peace between the Germans and the English in the trenches.
(I don't remember the song title).
    And soldier of heaven.

Hi there. With regard to military strategy, all you have to remember is that there are two main concepts: The pincer and the wheel-around (a British favourite). The overall idea is to encircle the enemy one way or another. The pincer is basically forming two columns, each reaching around the enemy's flanks and then pulling in tight to squeeze them to death. With the wheel-around you are basically taking a single column around what you perceive as being the enemy's weakest flank.

Don't worry about not getting history things like this.
I'm Irish, and because Ireland is on the opposite side of Europe to South Eastern Europe, I think we didn't learn about these battles. Just a quick summary of the assassination that started the war, and the European super powers of the day that took sides because of this relitively small conflict. Then most of the WW1 history, if I remember from my school days, was on the big picture of major things and the situation here in Western Europe, the Irish that fought in the British army at the time, and of course, Irish rebels taking advantage of British problems in mainland Europe:
"Britain's problems is Ireland's opportunity." To attack the British rule here in Ireland at the time: 1916 Easter Rising, a semi failed, semi suicide plan, rebellion that lead to the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921).
Basically Ireland's history was being changed dramatically during and immediately after WW1, and the events in South Eastern Europe where just briefly mentioned. Like I don't know if these battles where ever covered at all.

@@vladimirnikolic1688 Ah, an Irish military formation within the British Army?
That makes more sense now. OK. Thanks for that information.
I have huge respect for the honorable men fighting for God, King and Country within the British military in its history, but that didn't mean that they where always on the right side. God backed the Rebel forces (IRA: Irish Republican Army) during our war of Independence for a reason. 1919-1921, so immediately after WW1, and coming directly out from it. Like our Easter Rising: Easter Monday, 24th of April 1916, to the following Saturday.
Basically a semi suicidal military uprising in our capital city, for six days, and on the seventh day we where either dead or in captivity.
1,200 rebels on day one. I think 1,600 in all, verses tens of thousands of British soldiers, mostly from here in Ireland. There where 5,000 British soldiers ar least, I think, already stationed within the city on day one, before the fighting even started.
Basically we had initial gains the first few days, and got floored as soon as the British got an idea of what was going on, and got the heavy bombard guns, and a naval gunship, and grenade infantry semi stormtroopers, into play. The British did take huge losses in trying to avoid shelling civilian buildings thoughz well, that and some retarded tactics like forcing infantry into pre prepared kill zones, like the 200 elite British army sherwood foresters, that where killed by 9 IRA rebel soliders in pre prepared kill zones.

I too am in regular awe of Indy's pronunciation skills when it comes to people and place names that I would just butcher terribly.
The moment you talked about speeches/events inspiring films and name dropped Lord of the Rings my brain literally screamed 'Fields of Verdun'! Yep another Sabaton song. The battle it's about (Verdun) inspired a VERY recognisable Gandalf line. Of course Tolkein himself served in World War 1 at the Battle of the Somme and it's widely believed that the Dead Marshes in LotR was based on his experiences. No Sabaton song about the Somme specifically, but I'd argue 'Price of a Mile' about Passchendale (also ww1) is fairly close (both in terms of style of fighting, obscene casaulties and geography (google reckons you can drive between them in 2hrs, 15mins))
