Here because Hank Wedel sent me, glad I listened. As with him, I never listened to the lyric of the song and being Canadian it wasn't a hit that I would have heard endlessly although I did see Pulp live back in the day. Thanks for the lovely and delicate version, you've done Jarvis proud! Salutations from chilly Kinsale! ☘️💪🏽👀👍🏽☘️
I was intrigued to see how this song would play out in an acoustic version, thinking it might lose its power and energy. Oh my god, that was a ride. Almost made me tear up. Amazing emotion in your voice.
Cannibal Teddy seems to spend an inordinate amount of time on this site criticising Ms Banks interpretation of the song and has had the temerity to criticise me for stating that in my opinion she nailed it. Now, this is a difficult song to sing, Ms Banks is not doing a cover but an interpretation. She plays well, good choice of chords and deft fingerpicking, and sings beautifully. My appreciation of her performance was shared by every other person who made a comment except Cannibal Teddy. Now consider this. What kind of person would call himself Cannibal Teddy, or, to shorten it, CT. A more agile mind than that possessed by Mr Teddy would immediately identify the missing letters between the C and the T. I would imagine "Clot" but that could be subject to further consideration. Everybody who watched Ms Banks would be familiar with the song which is why we came here to appreciate a different interpretation. However, Mr Teddy knows better than us how the song should be done. Given this Mr Teddy, may I suggest that you pick up your guitar or whatever you play, give us your version of this song on youtube, demonstrate exactly how Ms Banks is going wrong and we can all consider your version and give and opinion. I eagerly anticipate watching your performance and being privileged to watch a master at work. Failing that, you could always get a job. It would fill in your time more productively that bagging people who can actually do it. And please leave those animals alone...........
Had this song on repeat since I found it a few days ago. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for doing this. All these people in the comments criticising you because you purposefully didn’t try and make it sound like the original have issues. What’s the point of a cover that sounds exactly the same as the original...
Best, most beautiful acoustic version ever! Your voice is so unique and wonderful Love your personality too, shines through. Love the fact that it was the full version too. You're amazing ❤

Your rendition eased my anxiety tonight. Followed you for all the Streetlight Manifesto songs, but my gosh your tune and covers are all amazing. Thank you
for what it's worth: wiki: "The song is about those who were perceived by the songwriter as wanting to be "like common people" and who ascribe glamour to poverty" . . This phenomenon is commonly referred to as slumming or "class tourism".
It is indeed a beautiful rendition of a classic creation, however I prefer the nostalgia attached to an original victorian cast fireplace with encaustic tile surround. And if Alcice moved out the way I beleive that we could spot the gas pipe leading to the fire grate, unless it has been hidden behind the skirting board and in which case would contravene building regulations.
Sorry, but nope. You did the speeding wrong, and that's, what makes the song. Start too slow (like Queen's I want to break through), more speaking than singing, and then get faster and faster. Also the pauses could be better.
Still the best version of this song I’ve ever heard! I just keep coming back every once in a while to hear it.
But later than ever. Absolutely stunning ! What a masterpiece, thanks. Martin. Wish i could sing

I too love the original. This cover, with it's more pronounced lyrics (and slightly slower delivery) is also magnificent. Thanks!
Love this! :) Well glad it popped up in ma recommendations
Why have only just found this! It's awesome 👌
Beautifully done. You really nailed this song. Thank you for giving us all so much pleasure.

do you play left and right handed?
Sorry, but nope. You did the speeding wrong, and that's, what makes the song.
