This episode fucked me up on a whole different level emotionally...jesus. god have mercy on our souls..because what we saw there at the end...this is reality. it made me cry.. i wont deny that.
...pls hbo release this officially in the soundtrack! this is so beautiful oman..
Stunning piece. I want to hear her sing all of my favorites and new favs I haven't even heard her do yet. love at first SOUND!!!
That ep just broke me up. I couldn't stop crying.😥
The series spoke on many truths solely centered on the many atrocities that befell black ppl in this country at the hand of those who perpetuated hatred towards them.
This episode alone gave a slight glimpse of what really happened in Tulsa that dreadful day. This was mild at best.
The scores synced with the visuals set such an emotional pitch you cant help but resonate and feel it deeply.
This is an amazing series. One beautifully done. Everything about this show is a masterpiece.
Right there with you 💪🏾 It HURT to see it. I FELT it! It was so deep like being right there
This episode brought up so much sorrow for my people. And to think we have a president with the proud boys on stand by..to do what? This shit was one of the most evilest things that happened in Amerikkka after slavery
A requiem. All those families. All those names Montrose spoke to life in his soliloquy. Those girls who just wanted to go to their school dance. Those proud grandfathers, protecting their women from harm. Those siblings, standing up for each other. Defending each other. Those children, enjoying the beautiful Tulsa afternoon. At the end, my heart just broke to pieces.
The children, jumping rope. The people sitting on their porch. Walking down the street..Lord, I'm still crying...
It’s not just the people in Tulsa. It’s black people in America as a whole
chris w we are watching KARMA unfold right in front of our eyes as we speak. It’s a “slow burn”.... but there is FIRE 🔥.
The last song hit me with mad chills. The Tulsa massacre happened in our century. I cried too
it's such a tragedy, just thinking about it makes me sad as fuck from 0 to 100 in a sec
Sadly this wasn't the only blackwall street Massacre. There were 5 more after this.
@@mystikmur3438 there was other massacres before the one too unfortunately
If this show doesn’t get a Emmy I swear!
They better rack up them Emmys. Not just one, period.
It won't because the cast is black it would be a miracle if it even got nominated...
I agree. I thought Watchmen was incredible. But OMG... This is next level...
The end of this episode changed me on multiple levels. And this fantastic song haunted me all freaking night. ❤️
That episode was so deep, it takes us to a whole other level as black people so proud and what a soundtrack
agree I Cried a lot!
Janai Brugger just recently visited my school out of nowhere and it’s just sinking in how special that was. She sang for us and was really nice. I’m now addicted to listening to her performances on repeat.
Wow that's amazing to hear!
The last note is possibly the most beautiful ever sung by a human.
Yo it GOT ME😭❤️
took me outta here.
A remake of Leontyne Price...
Hands down
Agreed 💕
This episode was very heavy. I cried when the grandmother took Tish's hand and asked her to pray with her. I thought "in the world we live in today....what if history repeats itself?" It makes me want to read and study about what happened in Tulsa. This episode really touched me.
i couldnt handle this episode mate. i was near a mental breakdown the whole tim in this episode. the reality, the actors performance, this song. this cruel event that really happened and is still happening in our world..god have mercy on us (in the end this episode was a real masterpiece visually and emotionally.
Thats the funny thing about the ending itself.
It showed you that very thing if you paid close attention. Theres a message within.
When Montrose was telling Atticus about the mystery hero. It was solely about repeating history.
For them it was destined the cycle of things transpired. As is the case with us as humans.
Just depends on what you believe and follow.
Karma has it that with reincarnation you must learn and change what ever path you lead that caused you your current lifes obstacles. Some are aware and able to change their outcomes. Others continue to perpetuate the loop, over & over until they fix it. If not, the same cycle repeats.
As is the case of current affairs in the world. Though there are also those who are aware & desire to maintain the choas of the world.
Ppl have the options of changing the course of history & humanity
You must be willing to take the necessary steps to ensure it happens
This is not the only massacre. It happened up until the 1980s. What they didn't show you was the sheriff deputizing white folks and providing them with guns to kill the black people. Well over 300 murdered, over 1200 home destroyed and hundreds of people maimed. So the sheriff deputizing the ex officer in Georgia, who killed Ahmad Aubrey, is nothing new. It's the same old. That's why police officers cannot be trusted.
The amazing voice belongs to Janai Brugger and this song (Catch the Fire) was the highlight of the show!✨✨
Thank you for sharing her name 🖤
This episode had me tears. Black people have endured so much in this country and it continues. Thank you for uploading the song.
This episode was honestly too much. It affected me way too much. This was in the past, but it is still our present. And that end messed me up. How can they tell us to be at peace, when they have brought us nothing but war?
i feel everythin you sayin. this fucked me up completly
Lord do I feel the agony and sorrow. We shall remain no matter how hard they try to literally destroy us. We shall remain my beautiful brothers and sisters. This episode hurt my heart so damn bad and traumatized me. It also helped reaffirmed the love I have for my people and determination for a better world if not for us but for our future generations. We have to, we just have to make it better by any means necessary. Bismillah! Asé! in the name of Jesus etc.
@@ciarad.8417 stay strong, we, the people are with you 🖤🤎🤍
Take what you can from the poem, keep coming back to it and others like it to help reaffirm their message. Recognize that some big things have changed and that there are more to come with perseverance.
I say this coming native american heritage. I wouldn't exist if all those that came before me never had to face the events they did. Should I bemoan existing and hold all of the past against the present and future? It's a recipe for unhappiness, and a cycle that for those who profit off people in despair wish to never see broken.
Start with the 2 core messages of the poem, take the fire and live, live, live. I only say all this in hopes of helping people keep their heads above water.
I visited a Cotton field and watching this jus made me Cry! Jus knowing what took place!
I was looking for this song today after the episode. I cried. I just felt numb seeing the massacre. Thank you for putting this up.
got u mate 🥺
It’s on Spotify too
Thank you sooo much!!! I'm a 54 years old white man and I can't stop crying right now! We will never really understand here in Europe or better said I will never understand!! I was not taught to see colors, I was taught to see human beings, souls! I'm sooooo sorry and I promise to continue standing up against injustice and racism! Sorry for my English...
Your words were perfect. Thanks for sharing
You should see color because we are colored 🤦🏾 the problem is that ppl of your color have treated ppl with my color terribly. I hate when white folks say they don’t see color bc our “color” is a big part of us
@@larrey2869 Well, I have never!! And please take your time and think hard about what you are doing here - you are generalizing! Some white folks treating you badly doesn't mean ALL white folks would do so. All over the world there are good people and bad people, regardless of culture, religion, color etc. In the end YOU are part of the problem if you're not willing to change your attitude! Not every black person is a saint and not every white person is a racist! Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution and fight against the division that some forces try to create!!
@@dirkandi bruh i never said anything about ppl treating me badly i said i hate when white folks say i dont see color. Idk why you typed al that but ok
@@larrey2869 Well, if you don't get it you're as ignorant as I was afraid you'd be with your we against you attitude!
This had me in tears sincerely and I was not ashamed to let them go. The depiction of this massacre resonated so strongly in me and having the classical singing accompany it all was too much!! Janai Brugger has a stunning voice and showcased the pain perfectly in her performance! I loved this deeply!
Amazing piece sung by a voice that captured my heart in the first measure! I instantly want to hear anything she has performed. what a find! I'll enjoy her music for years to come...stunning. sheer unique vocal perfection. I want to hear her sing my favorites and cannot wait to fall in love with new favorites from her which will surely happen. It truly is an honor to behold such a talent as this. This show is definitely up for many nominations particularly for their score/music!
My God. I can barely stand to hear this again!
😭 so painfully beautiful.🎶
🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾
😘
This ep/song made me go research the Tulsa massacre for like an hour. Growing up in the south, I'm not surprised I never learned about it in school, but holy shit its messed up beyond what words can express. Anyways thanks for putting this up, fingers crossed we get a studio release
And this happened in America! We learn about the horrors that occurred in other countries but not what horrors this country committed against Blacks and Native Americans.
@@ricardothompson2700 That this happened in America is not a surprise.
Thanks for posting the song. A requiem for the Tulsa victims.Haunting and chilling images along with a beautiful voice. Powerful.
This show is phenomenal. The story, the writing, the acting, the casting, the music. Phenomenal.
this episode was incredible, it devastated me. This song made me cry even more.
What a beautiful song. So rich. Her timbre gives me chills.
This episode was Beautifully written
“The requiem at the end of Rewind 1921 … that episode was heart-wrenching, and @JanaiBrugger ’s voice sealed the deal.
This show hits me, touches me, makes me think in the most powerful way. Most amazing show hands down. Makes me sick to know what these people went through. Love is all the human race needs. No hate. Lovecraft Country deserves an Emmy hands down. We need more shows like this to open people's fucking eyes.
Katherine, straight on point..I'm hoping for a second season as soon as possible.
🖤🤎🤍 ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻
I like how the lyrics are the same as the Catch The Fire poem by Sonia Sanchez heard earlier when Atticus was beating up the racists and when Letitia was in the burning house.
It's nice how that poem reflects a lot about the episode and they way it was presented was really something, especially when paired with the horrors of the Tulsa Massacre, an event that many still do not know of to this day.
I was like kill all them mf'ers Atticus 😢
Tulsa was not the only village, town, city where Black people thrived. Spike Lee's film, "Rosewood" (Florida?), depicts how and why these tragedies were so rampant. Land purchased by Blacks and made into a prosperous home was quickly abandoned to save lives. Many families know little about their histories as the re-telling of the horror could barely be uttered by those who grabbed who they loved then ran for whatever safety they could capture. The Tulsa massacre continued for two nights and into a third day. Nearly, or over, 300 children, women and men were killed.
@@rosswilliams313 Though he killed no one, Atticus saved the three who were friends in his present. The "motherboard" and her daughter, we hope in the 10th episode of the season, will also live. Gotta love #42 and that beautiful bat.
@@BahamaWynters Yess! But John Singleton did Rosewood
@@ronaldautry6191 Oh, yes, yes, yes! John Singleton. Thanks for the memory upgrade.
This episode made me very angry and sad this song was perfect for this episode
WOW I've been a fan of Lovecraft and seen this episode several times but now revisiting it now just brings so must emotion out this episode really brought tears to my eyes powerful and a must see if you hold any value in cinematography and story telling period such great work WOW R.i.p Michael K Williams
Thanks for putting it up. I was looking for this like crazy after the episode.
i got you mate
I literally had chills from this beautiful song! The episode stayed with me.
What an excellent episode. Maybe the best of the season. Janai’s voice is a gift from our LORD. What a sad and moving episode 😔😭. Thanks for the upload. I hope to be able to purchase the song on ITunes really soon!
I'm loving this show - 10 episodes in a season isn't enough - I want so much more. Amazing poem/song!
And all the TRUTH behind it... I'm so moved - still. Just too many feelings and thoughts to express. Just deeply moved by the series, the episode, and the many truths... from the past and, sadly, in the present.
Firts Watchmen, now Lovecraft😭😭😭
I.. was so moved. Thank you so much for this.
This episode really screwed me up. What happened at Tulsa, watching Montrose’s having to relive that tragic day, and the grandmother giving Leti the book knowing her fate was sealed. It left me with such a heavy heart that I couldn’t sleep for a while the night I watched it. I really do hope other people give Lovecraft Country a watch. May they be interested in Black history, Lovecraft in general, fantasy, etc. Plus, for a show about Lovecraft, there’s a lot of hope here.
An unbelievable episode and a final song worthy of any tragedy by Shakespeare or Euripides.
I am not american but am from Caribbean when I heard the poem and then the words in an aria it made me cry it hit hard as we as a black people must certainly catch this fire keep it burning to fight injustice . I looked up the Tulsa massacre to see what is was about heart wrenching of atrocities done to us .
Sonia Sanchez's poem. For me, when the walls begin to crumble and we are about to rumble, I will listen to this poem as read in this episode. John Brown is haunting me. Cheers everyone!
Every music score with Raphael Saadiq’s name on it will always hit.
thanks for posting this song, I was crazy looking for it❣️
Just watch the show again and I swear it put tears in my eyes. How people can be so cruel to us and the worst part is this country accepted it.
Thank you for sharing such and epic and memorable moment, it will stay with me for a long time
i got you!
This episode fucked me up. It left me crying and feeling so helpless. Lovecraft is doing the most in entertaining & inspiring us and also keep us learning about the history of black people in America. To everybody that brought this master piece to our screens, I truly Thank you.
Wow! In all of imagination. I was falling asleep when this symphony of angelus voice wakes me up . . . Holding my breath and deep thinking about me and my sister of a lost generation. The only ones left from a whole generational of dear loving family members whom all has died due to cancer. I stared into the comforts of my pillow while thinking about our pasts, future and present in that order. All i could do was bare this impact I'd never encountered before. Its like the vocals and vibration of the voice meeting words were casting a spell on me . . . Crazy i know but i swear its vibration was of nothing I'd experienced before. Immediately i pulled my headphones off and stood up to cry..... i cried silently. But it was a struggle to know these vibrational sound waves could exist in times like today. Its like we live in society and ignore the absence of beauty through olden music arts. I don't know if it was a spell being casted upon me after watching this episode #9, but it sure felt like one. Thinking about my mom if maybe in heaven this is a message from her as she would often tell my sister and me "one day i will be gone, and it will be you and you're brother left behind", followed by instructions on taking good care of one another in her absence. The last time i cried deeply like that, was at my mothers viewing, and the woman at church scene in the movie hustle n flow . . I mean just strange, different, but beautiful in all directions . ."God help us to bare whats to become" Oliver Bowles san diego, ca
When you hear them talk about so-called Critical Race 'Theory', point them to the depiction of the Tulsa Massacre portrayed in this episode. I'm just seeing this thinking of family I grew to know well who were alive at the time in reference. This was just 100 years ago, and they tell us to 'let it go' while other groups who have suffered catastrophic historic injury make sure to let others know to 'never forget', and rightly so. The American nation has an accounting owed to Black people for this event and too many others.
No. We're not crazy ; we matter.
🥺😢😳
Such a beautiful piece of music. Laura Karpman should make an opera out of it.
I believe they did---for this episode.
I just finished watching the powerful episode and needed to find this song. It's so beautiful and gives me the chills. Thanks for posting this.
my thoughts exactly, i got you!
Thank you for recording this song! I need it released as a single ASAP
i got you, i'm hoping for an official soundtrack release that contains the lovecraft country cast from the songs and also inclujding this
Love this. So emotional. Stands for so much. You can feel this song.
This song is stunning! Was looking to see who song it, thanks for the post. 😊
This is just brilliant. This episode changed my life.
this had me completely speechless.
I need to watch this show really badly guys!
You won’t regret it. I am rewatching this... and may watch again after that. It’s THAT good! Njoy
Great soundtrack and a magnificent voice and interpretation ! Thank you for sharing.
This ending sequence...emotional just hearing the song and thinking what it was tied to for me now. Thanks for this.
I married into a family of activists. I have learned and continue to learn of the history our Nation has hid from us. This song haunts me - as it should. - where is your fire? I want to be the fire and not kill. Loving, teaching and being.
Just rewatched episode 9. What we have endured and continue to experience can barely be held in words....it truly requires a wordsmith such as Sonia Sanchez to approximate the energy of our collective experience....but the images and sound from this moment in the show along with Mama Sonia's words.....are everything in a way you have to feel to understand.
I LOVE MY PEOPLE. SO MUCH DEPTH TO our history that the world need to know. The prayer is called The Lord Prayer I need everyone to say this every night.
This was the best episode thus far!! PERIOD!!!!
Absolute fucking chills. I can't believe I only discovered the show this many years later. Better late than never, though.
Love this episode and it’s historical references most people I know don’t know about Tulsa made a hole research and put it on my FB of the forgotten struggles and sufferings of the African American in the 1900s
Beautifully Heartbreaking! Very Emotional episode!! I was explaining this to my daughter!
RIP Michael K. Williams
This song and her voice were magnificent! The song took you emotionally where the show was in that moment too and really made you feel it. Bravo! This song is on Spotify too ya’ll under the Lovecraft Country soundtrack 🙏.
Adorei a trilha sonora postada aqui! Procurei uma musica que vi ainda agora no comercial da HBO, mostrando cenas da série, numa temporada completa. Quando achar a musica, posta também.

An absolute masterpiece song.. to match an absolute masterpiece tv series.. Both beautiful and sad

It sounds like a Porgy and Bess aria.
