Looking forward to GCN releasing the official fantasy tactical tabletop wargame of the Tour de France, complete with dungeon dice, action dice, defence dice, sprint dice, breakaway dice, crash dice, and dice dice. I assume it'll be called "Tourhammer 40,000", and make a tidy profit.
3 years back i started watching the tour for the first time, not knowing any of the rules and how it works (even researching was difficult) but after the first week i picked up and learned how it all works just by watching it live :)
On point as usual. 👍🏻 The Matt figurine needs a lot more caps on his head. And shouldn't be clipped in... Or at least be looking down at his pedals to see what he's trying to do with his feet...
Bit of a bugger that one second gap that could be caused by anyone, if the GC contenders don't all cooperate at the finish like Froomie did not at the Dauphine so that he might possibly nab that potential time from a gap or two, it makes for some pretty crowded and dangerous finishes (like sprint stage finishes aren't already dangerous enough).
Good video! Makes it a little clearer why the GC teams stay so close to the front even after the 3k mark. As former Pros, what are your opinions on the proposal of taking the GC time at the 3km mark for sprint stages?
Re 3KM rule, you said the riders involved in the crash will get the same time as the leader (first rider crossing the line) of the group they were in before the crash. So it is very likely that a crashed out rider would get faster time than someone from the same group who falls behind (not as a result of the crash) within the 3 km zone (after the crash) and crosses the line a second or more after the leader of the group.... Sounds unfair to me.
Nope, if they were in they group and there hasn't been a split in the group, then everyone in that group would get the same time as the leader of that group. If there's a split in the group, it's up to the race organisers to decide which side of the split they would have been a part of.
#torqueback Do these rules also apply to the other Grand Tours? What about the classics? If not, would you consider doing a similar video for the other big races?
long and short of it is...the strong man with the strongest team, wins the GC. However, Froomy is setting his own precedence by out running not only the other GC contenders but his domestiques as well.
What is the deal with the framed Arione on your wall? They're pretty ubiquitous as kit goes. Or does the imprint of Simon's rear on a saddle count qualify as art?
That was a great, informative video, thankyou! What would happen if a GC contender crashed out within 1km of mountain stage finish, is he allowed, if his bike is not able to be ridden (could happen) to walk, carry bike across finish or does he have to be delivered a new bike by team car? Far fetched I know but any weird thing like this could happen, think cows, trains, fights.....
you forgot one other rule.....some riders who get caught on doping have the chance of riding grand tours in years to come and to be considered on of the greatest also their crimes are quickly forgotten (Contador) while on the other hand UCI sometimes banned for life other riders to live in shame for the rest of their life (Armstrong)......so it's a lottery
They should bring back the one that 5times winner from France, was wearing, with the square ,of the green, yellow, red, poke dot.jersey.because, sagan.is going to win the green, for years
So they're reintroducing (slightly) bonus seconds this year. That's lame. I just beat my 40k time and I don't award myself an extra 10 seconds because that would make NO SENSE. That's the only thing I don't like. Otherwise, looking forward to the race, especially the Col de Tourmalet.
you can take a gel from a team mate, but you aren't allowed to go back to the cars to get one, usually within 20km of the finish - which Ritchie Porte did in that case to give it to Froome.
eating it isn't the issue, it was being supplied it by the team car which was. The UCI rules says: Feeding is prohibited on climbs, descents and during the first 50 and final 20km. This is pretty much because cars moving past or being in close vicinity to riders of great numbers (ie. the start of the race) or those racing hardest and often on the trickiest roads (climbs, descents and final km's) is too dangerous.
HELLO...i am from kenya (AFRICA) i want to win tour de france after 12 years to come...i am now a beginner and i want to be a pro. Here in kenya, we have a problem that cyclist are facing and that is the funds.we dont have funds or sponsers to train us and take us for races outside kenya.so it becames hard for cyclist to be seen outside kenya....
come on guys this clearly wasn't done to scale! if Froome had been given a gel the size of a car he should of been awarded man points in just digesting it. Maybe that could be your next video?
The reason they don't do it like that is because there would be more of a reason to finish nearer the front in sprint stages and group finishes, which makes it more dangerous, because people are keener to finish nearer the front.
Not exactly. In the scenario you describe, the concern is that riders will take great risks to earn small time advantages, thereby making the race dangerous for everyone. That's the way it was explained to me.
Didn't understand a bloody thing, but I'll google it as we go.
Jørgen Oktober Storm Nestande Thyrum not a great video for beginners

so basically, stay relatively close to the front, and crush it in the mountains, and put in a solid time trail
Easy when you say it fast.
Why mounains?
3 years back i started watching the tour for the first time, not knowing any of the rules and how it works (even researching was difficult) but after the first week i picked up and learned how it all works just by watching it live :)
You lost me at "shortest time wins." I'm here for Peter Sagan.
I couldn't pick anything you said why so complicated the tour?
Wow I am early let me think of a joke......England
You've landed an icey joke there.
YeahWhatever I know right
Thanks for the tip. Much better than those marginal gains others are looking for, now I will smash the GC sans problème
I love all your videos! But i would like to ask you where i can buy that little cyclist miniatures? thank you
I've just noticed in the picture of Simon below the saddle he has the peak of his cap down. I thought this was wrong.
On point as usual. 👍🏻
The Matt figurine needs a lot more caps on his head.
And shouldn't be clipped in... Or at least be looking down at his pedals to see what he's trying to do with his feet...
Matt takes revenge on logs by making them into tables

4:34 I think it happened in 2007. I think Cadel Evans would have won the tour if it wasn't for the bonus time Alberto Contador had taken.
get a 9 leaders team, suit on black kit and lock the race, pretty simple :)
Good video! Makes it a little clearer why the GC teams stay so close to the front even after the 3k mark. As former Pros, what are your opinions on the proposal of taking the GC time at the 3km mark for sprint stages?
Could u do a video about who has the strongest team with them in the Tour de France?
Informative, thanks. Is there also a video about the tactics used?
Re 3KM rule, you said the riders involved in the crash will get the same time as the leader (first rider crossing the line) of the group they were in before the crash. I can hear women everywhere turning to their partner and saying "this is as confusing as the off side rule"
saying that going by the comments section it appears many men are as confused as the women.
#torqueback Do these rules also apply to the other Grand Tours? What about the classics? If not, would you consider doing a similar video for the other big races?
Loving the brick head :)
long and short of it is...the strong man with the strongest team, wins the GC. However, Froomy is setting his own precedence by out running not only the other GC contenders but his domestiques as well.
this video should be called: "How to win the tour de France like a pro"
Does that rule apply to other races like giro?
I think the rider with the block head is Tom Last, the brick.
I wanna know the situations that motivate the various timing rules. I suppose safety for the 3 km rule?
It would be great if at the end there is a GC time and a "real time" for all the Tour
What is the deal with the framed Arione on your wall? They're pretty ubiquitous as kit goes. Or does the imprint of Simon's rear on a saddle count qualify as art?
clearly they're suggesting tom's the slowest with that team TT demonstration :)
Clear as mud!
You really went with that butchering of maillot jaune. Imagine what the outtakes sounded like!
That was a great, informative video, thankyou! you can cross the line on foot and get a time as long as you have your bike with you - has been known after crashes on sprint stages
Is it acceptable for an overweight amateur cyclist to wear a replica yellow jersey when he's getting dropped by his mates and can't climb hills?
can you guys make a vid op Cancellara's bike at the tour? it is a freaking nice bike if I look at the pic's...
Love the brick figurine 😂
greetings from a waitrose in hampshire..))
Well explained...
Thanks boys, interesting.
you forgot one other rule.....some riders who get caught on doping have the chance of riding grand tours in years to come and to be considered on of the greatest also their crimes are quickly forgotten (Contador) while on the other hand UCI sometimes banned for life other riders to live in shame for the rest of their life (Armstrong)......so it's a lottery
Just as countries are allowed to exist in spite of generating wars and genocides all over the world.
Aftet watching this video, im still cant understand how point system of tour de france
those bonus seconds sound like a complete waste of time
the camera is so close you can see how old Matt is
Huh. And I thought it was talent, hard work, a great team and lots of luck.
They should bring back the one that 5times winner from France, was wearing, with the square ,of the green, yellow, red, poke dot.jersey.because, sagan.is going to win the green, for years
still don’t get it...but i love it
cannot wait!
You win by pumping the most EPO into your body without getting caught.
Firts thing you need to do to win the tour de france, Get a bike, a lot of money , get yourself a world or pro contintal team.
And don't forget the steroid inhaler before a big climb.
What's the point of giving the rider a time penalty for taking a gel late on?
interesting thanks for sharing
So they're reintroducing (slightly) bonus seconds this year. That's lame. I just beat my 40k time and I don't award myself an extra 10 seconds because that would make NO SENSE. That's the only thing I don't like. Otherwise, looking forward to the race, especially the Col de Tourmalet.
very good video!
where can you get those figures
All you need is dope, dope, hard training and more dope!
Was that Matt's toy figure you dropped?
why can't you eat a gel too close to the finish?
They have feed zones after that you have what you have and aren't allowed to share. It is the sharing part that broke the rules....I think.....
you can take a gel from a team mate, but you aren't allowed to go back to the cars to get one, usually within 20km of the finish - which Ritchie Porte did in that case to give it to Froome.

Took me two re runs but I think I got the rules

Next video: How to win the Tour de France like a pro
True
ask Bernard Hinault
Doping, the answer is doping!
Step 1: Be Chris Froome.
Step 2: ....
Step 3: Profit.
Who's the GCN rider with the 🐎 head?
I think it's a brick. That should give you a clue.
+Paul Humphreys whoever he is, he"s always is in Last place ;-)
its a brick, Tom Lasts nickname is 'The Brick'
Lance won those races
Dan, you need bigger/less orange glasses.
I never knew Stephens was Vulcan.
cycling for dummies, today.
either im too high right now, or i did not understand a damn thing when Dan was explaining lol
I think mr. Blockhead is doping...
what bike would u recommend
Cosmic fuji
...... What.....
come on guys this clearly wasn't done to scale! if Froome had been given a gel the size of a car he should of been awarded man points in just digesting it. Maybe that could be your next video?
That seems a lot more complicated than it needs to be. haha
Great !
I thought doping was the surest way...
Dayum thats so funny to hear English pple saying words in French :p
EPO.
Eddy Merckx
simple. add a device that once you pass the end line it record your time. all of this here is rubbish.
Wow, the solution cycling has been looking for for years
The reason they don't do it like that is because there would be more of a reason to finish nearer the front in sprint stages and group finishes, which makes it more dangerous, because people are keener to finish nearer the front.

nice
????
lets be realisic doping or at least a ton of 'legal' painkillers, asthma treatment,& infusions. ... but at least the scenery is nice
مكانش واحد يترجملنا
whos the brick head eh?
u sure its not the other ex-member of gcn who left
Does GCN think there are too many ex doping cheats as DS's in the Tour?
🤯
Poor illustration on already confusing topic 🙄
How would MTB riders do this lmao they'd fold
those bonus seconds sound like a complete waste of time
