When I was still able, I used to pick translucent stones like these, on a beach, on an island in the Bay of Fundy. Twice a day the tide would recreate the beach as if it had never been touched. I gathered stones there for over 30 years and there were as many the last time as there was on the first trip. A suggestion for ya. Carry a laser pointer to check stones for translucency. Try it at home on some of the stones you already have and you'll see why I suggest this. Happy hunting.
Thank you so much for sharing and I'll have to try that! I usually carry a flashlight but a laser pointer is going to work better check that in daylight I believe!
@@AgateDad I was in Kenosha Wisconsin. The beaches had been super public. I did find a gorgeous bone fossil from something years ago but I lost it over time. Have you ever visited the Virginia beaches or northern California beaches? They are amazing! Virginia has fossilized sea shells and the California beaches are filled with agates! I have been finally digging into my collection and I have started tumbling the smaller stones. I do it the hard way because I am low on finances. Aka Mom life. But I did recently post some videos of a few items I have found over the years. The fossils in Virginia are absolutely everywhere! California has gemstones, fossils and opals up the wazoo! Definitely something you should look into for a family trip someday. Thank you for the response and I apologize for the rambling. I currently have a 3 year old screaming in one ear about a pony and a 6 year old asking me for video games.🙌🤣

My father and I were never particularly close. He was into hunting and fishing and football and me...not so much. I do think, if I had known my love for rockhounding back then, I could have gotten him interested since I think he just enjoyed being outdoors. Maybe it could have improved out relationship to have something in common. My point being, it's a great activity to share with your kids, even if you arent a HUGE fan, the kids likely will be.
I bet you two would have connected with it for sure, i look forward to the times rockhounding with my son and other future kiddos, my little guy already is a rock nut and he's 1 ¹/²!

you find the best agates when we go up to grand Maris mn we never find that manny
honestly, its probably because of the time of year... if you can tough it, make a trip in winter and hit up some spots... You will find much more in winter.
@@AgateDad thx for the addvice ill ask my dad if we can go this winter the bad part is is that we live 6 hours away i love your videos i am in 7 th grade your vides help me relax thz
@agate Dad i love to go up there its so budifuel we live in Hutchinson mn
@@daydbaysinger4572 Also, no matter what time of year you look, I have noticed myself that if you get up early and try to get to the spots first you will likely find some.
We in Tasmania have white sand at our beach but I think I would rather have stones and gemstones on my beach like this. Wow some really beautiful pieces what do you do with your finds? Do you polish or cut or just collect
I do polish them with a dremel and hand polish with wet sandpaper
Dang you could be there for days🤣🤣🤣🤣
Seriously haha gotta bring a tent next time!!
Days like this are the reason we keep coming back, no matter what the weather does!
Nice Bag o' Treasures you got there Taylor. That nodule at 10:20 may surprise you and be an agate.
Hit that beach again if the weather holds, then let the Winter ice do the stone cold shoreline shuffle and go back after the Spring thaw to a fresh beach! If That thought don't give ya happy chills then I don't know what to say! I mean (hint hint) even your Scoop got happy!! 🤣🤣🤣
I wouldn't sweat the ones you left behind, when you get back they'll be right where you left them... umm... you, DO, remember where you left them... right? 😬😉
Get knee pads and use them... you'll be glad you did when you're my age... don't ask, just trust my experience, and my old busted a$$ knees. 😜
Again, Thanks for sharing another great video.
As always, Good Luck, Have Fun, and Keep on Houndin'
Steve...
Thanks Steve! And yes, I do KNEED knee pads, my dad always told me, you need to protect your knees!! I believe it! I hope they're right where I left them I'll remember!
Great to find you! Really enjoyed this video and seeing all the beauties you found :) What an amazing area! Love your passion for each discovery. I just subbed and I look forward to watching more of your outings :) Take care! Lee
Thanks so much for your support! Love getting out and exploring this beautiful area :)
@@AgateDad Yes...it works well in daylight. And it pixelates for lack of a better term. The cheapest I could find were sold as pet teasers. Enjoy.
This is beyond cool. I love rock hunting. I have been hunting on lake Michigan but superior looks a lot less picked.
Depends on where you go i guess! Some spots are very picked and some not so much!!
Chanelle Kirchgestner Which VA beaches have fossils? Any good spots for sea glass? Once the virus lifts, we are heading to the shore, thx
@@chanellekirch haha sorry I missed this, rambles are perfectly fine! Have fun with the 3 year old!!
you should really come to Utah. rocks like those are really easy to find. we also have some CRAZY places for Topaz, amethyst and the like.
That sounds like an absolute blast!!
Where at in utah? 🥳
@@luelahe yes where? Well developed crystals?
Just loving your excitement... OH NO, don't have a heart attack! :'D
I would probably have a real one if I fell into that lake! So cold 🥶
During this time of Coronavirus I have been making wire wrap jewelry with some of them. !! It's a whole new experience having fun with them!!!
Sounds fun!
I’m sure glad your post popped up in my feed, I come to duluth quite often, my wife’s hometown, I’m a hound from Southern Illinois and i deal southern rock to “Beaver Bay Agate Shop” and would be stoked to get with you and do a hunt next time i come up. Im hard up to find some yooper lites on the north shore! I refuse to believe they only exist on the south shore!! Keep it up hound dog!!
I know for a fact they exist on the north shore, I've been informed from someone who's found them, much harder than UP but they're there!
Agate Dad I will be making a trip up at the end of may for a wedding, we should get together and you can teach me a thing or 2 about north rocks.
Still going to that wedding??
So sorry I missed your comment man!!
Nice video, you got a sub.
Thanks Richard!
"Agatey Goodness"-- my new favorite phrase :-)
It's a good one!!
Horn coral is correct. Green rock is most likely epidote. Just curious if you find any omars over your way?
Ohhhh yeah! My finding Lake superior amethyst agates video has a Omar in it
Nice
My father and I were never particularly close. He was into hunting and fishing and football and me...not so much. I do think, if I had known my love for rockhounding back then, I could have gotten him interested since I think he just enjoyed being outdoors. Maybe it could have improved out relationship to have something in common. My point being, it's a great activity to share with your kids, even if you arent a HUGE fan, the kids likely will be.
I bet you two would have connected with it for sure, i look forward to the times rockhounding with my son and other future kiddos, my little guy already is a rock nut and he's 1 ¹/²!
