    Thanks for your initial impressions - it looks like a great high end single boiler machine for the money, although the noise levels seem a little off-putting

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  2 роки тому +7

      The pump noise was mostly from initial empty boiler refilling, it has quieted down significantly to the same level as Gaggia and any other vibration pump machines this morning when I went on to make a morning brew.

    Ok my friend, good video! 👏 I suggest to call your retailer, the machine arrived broken inside or you have to tight a loosing part, because you machine is to loud, It definitely had a damage during the shipping… You’ve to learn a lot about espresso, this machine will be good for your, for I saw, you’re using like “Italian beans” I suggest to find a local roaster, is better, you’ll ensure the freshness👌If you’re brewing dark roast, go down at 198-196 degrees and please buy a scale my friend, you’ll have the exact recipe time after time, enjoy your machine bro, awesome video. 👏👏

    I suggest the noise is the Vibrator Pump, some times this can be minimized by providing an isolator style of mount to isolate the vibration noise from the chassis.

    This is essentially an ECM Casa V wirh a PID. I was akways very impressed with a Casa IV i had on loan. Amazing build quality. I really love the adjustable OPV. Sets it apart.

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  8 місяців тому

      Yes, I probably would have picked Casa V for a better finish and could have cared less for OPV and PID, especially after using it for a while. I realized I'm not as picky as some other espresso enthusiasts about dialing the shots perfectly and have been drinking the same bean for the last 3 years. What I would recommend however, is a Dual boiler as opposed to a high end single boiler for better shot making capacity and steaming power.

  • @ameano84
    @ameano84 Рік тому +2

    Thanks for this comparison. After watching this, I will just stick to my GCP with PID. It heats up much faster. The smaller boiler on the GCP means the I dont need to wait as long for my next brew.

      The boiler design of the GCP is patented and unique. It allows them to make a cheaper machine that performs better. So everyone always saying gaggia is worst because of the "tiny boiler" are not looking at the whole picture.

  • @Comfort031

    I definitely suggest you weigh your output instead of going by volume. If the coffee is fresh or stale you could have either more or less crema than usual and that could drastically change the amount of liquid actually in your glass and could end up with over or underextraction. Weighing just helps with your consistency from shot to shot. Looks like a nice machine though.

    I think there may be an issue with the machine. Based on an overview from Marc at Whole Latte Love, I would not expect this machine to be that loud. Pretty sure the vibration pump should be mounted so vibration of the machine is reduced.

  • @eda7875
    @eda7875 Рік тому +1

    The GCP has a very unique patented boiler design... it is so tiny because it doesnt need to be any bigger given its design and material. It is also intended to pull one double shot.
    The PGO boiler is brass... NOT steel....
    The 12 oz boiler isnt an upgrade. It is comparable in functionality to the gaggia. The big advantage of the PGO is the PID.
    If youre buying a new machine and have 1k budget PGO or rancilia are abaolutely a great choice. If you already have a GCP i wouldnt really recommend "upgrading" to a PGO. Just get a shades of coffee PID kit and youre all set. Or get a 2k+ machine instead.

    Try to put a rubber sheet underneath the machine. It seems like it's on a metal surface and that maybe is increasing the vibration noise?

  • @howardm5759
    @howardm5759 6 місяців тому

    That portafilter must've been used before - water drops on the handle and the portafilter was already inserted.. I bought the Profitec Go last month and everything came in pristine/unused condition and I can verify that the portalfilter comes empty and clean - all baskets are separate

  • @shanebusby231

    You need to slow that extraction down, dial finer or tamp firmer.. should flow like syrup evenly across the filter as it starts 👍

  • @jimmythefish

    In the market for this level of machine. I’m assuming this is the more logical choice over the Silvia now. After owning a Breville Barista Express that was not very repairable my priority is for it to be simple and durable and locally serviceable.

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  2 роки тому +1

      I would probably pick this over Silvia since they cost about the same but this just elevates the single boiler game up a notch with pretty much every option you may want to dial in your shots. Don't forget that a good quality espresso grinder is a lot more important than an espresso machine.

    • @eda7875

  • @tjwallis7948
    @tjwallis7948 2 роки тому +3

    Love the video. I’ve been waiting for this machine for months. This may be a dumb question but with the pressure adjustment, do you think you could maybe 3d print a tool that would allow you to adjust the pressure while pulling a shot? You know, pressure profile? Would that even be possible?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, You can just use a flat head screw driver to turn the OPV valve while pulling a shot, since the adjustment knob is easily accessible. But doing so mid way can not guarantee your pressure setting would be correct for future shots since pressure has been modified midway of a shot. So proper procedure would be to adjust pressure in between each shots using a blank basket

    • @philipurquiza5184

  • @CH-yp5by

    You'rebetter off modifying the Gaggia with a PID ! You can do it cheaply with so many how to videos or Mr Shades kit which is a bit more. Spare parts are super cheap as well.

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  2 роки тому +3

      The GCP is $450-$500 depending on color trim, Mr. Shades PID kit is $130, if you want to add a pressure gauge, an extra $70, plus required drilling and extra tools that you need to buy for drilling through metal. If you don't already have a mechanics wrench set, that will set you off another good chunk of money just to install the PID kit. Most people just want to enjoy a delicious cup of espresso without extra efforts, for that purpose, Gaggia CLassic works perfect even without any mods.
      For people who can afford to spend a little more money to get factory PID, and pressure gauge, Lelit ANNA 2 costs about the same as a modded gaggia ($680), and if you also want adjustable OPV, Profitec Go is one of the better build models available for under $1000.
      Cheers

    Thanks for reviewing this new machine quite thoroughly. I'm considering this machine atm. Everything looks good, my only concern is the height between the bottom of the group head and dip tray seems to be the same as GCP (19:11), which is quite short. That means, similar to GCP, it is almost impossible to put a scale under the cup if you want to brew into 2 cups simultaneously (or using a taller cup) under stock portafilter (not the bottomless one).

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  Рік тому +1

      It is taller, you can put a scale under especially if you opt to go with a bottom less portafilter. The stock portafilter clearance is 3 1/8" (80mm)

    • @TheGizmoGarage

      Correct, you can probably steam two cups of milk (as I tested) before the boiler gets empty, you'll need to run the brew button in non-steaming mode to refill the boiler before you can steam some more milk.
