I'm from Airdrie which isn't much better but Coatbridge is no worse than anywhere else. It has had the heart ripped out of it by thoughtless councillors and business rates! Coatbridge is okay!
Travelled the world,born and brought up in the Whifflet and my memories just make me smile.A loving childhood with not much money but some of the happiest memories of my life.
A visitor in the 1880s summed it up. : " Coatbridge offers no inducements to the traveller to linger long ". Victorian English was so stylish..! And understated.
All these towns are similar , bellshill, wishaw, Motherwell, Airdrie Coatbridge etc. when you look at their " recent " history things started on a downward spiral when worthwhile employment dried up . Bit by bit things deteriorated and have never improved. It's the same in fife and down in north of England. Many towns just starting to close down . When people have no money for shops - shops closed down. Relatively recently did you ever hear of foodbanks clothes banks ? Breakfast clubs at primary schools ? Even statistical child poverty has rocketed and it's not being denied. How will it ever improve ? Look up Linwood after the car plant closed on internet and you'll see all the same symptoms.

Years ago you could go to the main st and spend an afternoon there with all the shops.
