They were my favourite couple 😭 💓 Sybil knew _exactly_ what she wanted and her romance had way less drama than either of her sisters' ones did. As Tom said, "It was a marriage of equals." I don't know why Sybil's actress had to leave but I always miss her character

apparently from the beginning she said 3 seasons and done. I'd have liked it better if they let her and tom ride into the sunset instead of her dying, but i guess with Tom's character still active it wouldn't work

@@kfenton4154 And he will love Sybil until his. In the latest movie it showed that even after he remarried she was still very much a part of him. And it influenced how he made decisions regarding Sybbie. The scene with him and Lucy in the movie where she would ask what would Sybil do shows this.

I honestly didn’t like their relationship at all. For me, it felt too rushed and incredibly forced upon in order to move the storyline forward. They only had about 2-3 short scenes together in season one, out of nowhere, confessed their love and immediately tried to elope in season two, then got married (off screen) and Sybil was pregnant, all in just one episode in season three and everything was just mentioned in casual conversations in the house. Rose and Atticus have had much lesser screen time than Sybil and Branson but they had way more chemistry together and at least had a wedding scene where we can see their love being shown on screen. Finally, it didn’t help at all for their character development when Sybil abruptly dies after childbirth, which left Branson as a widower. It was a missed opportunity to see these two characters grow into their roles as parents and grow their love for each other both as parents and husband and wife, just like the love between what both Cora and Richard had developed for each other after they’d gotten married and had their first child.

They're my favorite couple on the show! Sad that they're relationship had to end in tragedy due to JBF wanting to leave for good, but I guess that's life. This is probably wishful thinking, but I would love a scene in the upcoming film where Tom and Sybbie talk about Sybil. It would be wonderful to watch Tom talk to their daughter about what a wonderful woman her mother was.

Tom fell in love from the start, he waited 4 years. It’s true that saying “you’re my ticket” isn’t a huge statement. But I take it more as clumsiness, having trouble really expressing her feelings. Because we see right after, Sybil says that she will not abandon him. In any case, since she came to see him in his garage whenever she could, it proved her feelings for him. Their feelings are pure, go beyond their social class. Tom is a passionate man, just like Sybil, with their convictions, their attachment.
After the loss of Sybil, Tom will always remain faithful to her, she will remain his great and only love. Even though he remarried (9 years later...), Sybil remains in his heart. He tells his new wife that he loves her, but to Sybil he tells her that he loves her so much. Tom had to find happiness again, but I remain sad that Sybil and Tom were not able to live their love longer, with their daughter.

Never really understood why Sybil ran off with Tom (he is one of my favourites in the latter seasons.)
He seemed too arrogant to be loveable at the beginning. A fling maybe, but not enough to make a life change.
I’m guessing that after the war Sybil just couldn’t go back to the old ways and maybe didn’t feel at ease with her family either, and the only person who’d understood her was Tom. After all we do pick from our surroundings.

Tom is my favorite character at least post Sybil death, BUT I’m sorry, there was no mutual love interest here at least not from Sybil. Sybil just wanted to get away from her Family’s world, the do nothing aristocracy. She wanted to experience real life and learn skills and be useful and work. She didn’t want the high class, and dinners and aristocrat parties and the entitled world. She wanted to get away from all of that. Tom was her ticked out and she even says it. I didn’t hear an I can’t live without you. There was no mutual courtship between these two, no mutual physical attraction.
The Farmer Edith made out with were more into each other than Sybil and Tom were.

Tom and Sybil didn't work out as a couple. Separately they were much better. I thought if they got together they would be a revolutionary couple, but no! I only saw a foolish and fragile young woman, giving up on her dreams and doing all the will of a rebel without a cause, irresponsible, arrogant, manipulative and controlling.
Tom pretended very well that he was in favor of women's causes, and then demanded that Sybil give up her career as a nurse. And she gave up everything, especially herself, to satisfy Tom's whims. This couple was a huge disappointment. The real surprise was Edith's evolution. The annoying girl who lived off the remains of her older sister, who no one looked at, became an intelligent, astute, mature woman who, unlike Sybil, managed to combine the dream of finding great love and finding her purpose in life without humiliating herself behind man. Edith was a character who did not disappoint and became big in the series. From a cinderella cat to an independent woman who managed to develop self-love on her own and only then was she truly loved. He had no support from his sisters or his country. Always left aside and despised. Unlike Sybil and Mary who were always favorites and pampered. Edith rose and became strong!

The reason I didn't like this pairing is because he kind of bullied her into developing feelings for him. He mocked her n cornered her n ridiculed her for her family. He never seemed to appreciate her for who she was..the whole package including her background. But after she died, his stubbornness reduced. And that made him likeable. Being principled in your beliefs doesn't mean making a scene always.

    • @rosymelanie
      @rosymelanie 2 роки тому +27

Yeah right! Sybil, the brave one, the one willing to stand up to her family for what she believed in, bullied? The lady who could stand to care for soldiers with terrible injuries and not faint or get too terrified to continue? Did you forget that *she* came to see *him* so often at his garage? Did he hypnotize her and make her do that? *eye roll* He knew that she was interested by the way she acted, and the fact that she couldn't stay away, despite what society would have told her about the suitability of their match. He was simply impatient that she was taking so long to make a decision, because he loved her. He waited the duration of the war, which for the Brits was four years. And since when did Branson not respect Sybil? He loved her for wanting to be different, he stood up for her to her father and told him that she knew her own mind.
And what the hell is worth appreciating in someone born to privilege and nobility? Having more money than you can ever spend, and having prestige simply because of which parents you were born to, not whether you earned it through good actions? Did you forget that he was a socialist? Maybe you don't even know what the word means. Branson saw Sybil's goodness that existed in her heart despite her privileged background. He wasn't stubborn, he had strong beliefs in reworking the world to be more fair and just, and Sybil obviously did too. Why should this family have so much when people at this time were starving and dying due to a lack of medical care (the NHS didn't come into existence until 1948!)? I loved the old Branson who would have thrown oil on the heads of the men from the Home Office at dinner after the Rising. They would have deserved it for what the government did to innocent civilians. If you see that as "stubborn" then there is something wrong with you, or you simply are ignorant of history and have no moral sense.

@@rosymelanie look..its art n everyone has a subjective opinion. I don't agree with your opinion but at least I won't roll my eyes at u.
Having said that, when u love someone, u don't prompt that person to go against the family. U don't villianise the family. No matter how u r treated. Because u understand taking ur SO from his/her family will hurt him or her. And that's a huge sacrifice. If the whole family had tried to marry her off n kept her locked up n she had to run away, I understand her breaking off from the family. But that's not what happened. From the very first day, Tom's plan was taking her away from the family. Never once did he try to be a man n have the guts to ask for her hand. Just bluster n anger to hide his cowardice.
If Sybil had stood her ground like her sister asked n waited for her parents to come around(which they did eventually) but at the same time Tom had kept his disgust n disrespect for her family hidden, I wud have agreed that it was an equal effort. But he was so insecure all the time, so much so that common courtesy escaped him. He was always defensive n ready to pick a fight. Despite almost everyone in the family making an effort to make him feel welcome after the marriage. Robert didn't hide his dislike but it's not like he shouted at him every chance he got. Robert was civil in most instances. Even if Tom didn't like Robert's passive aggressive attitude, he cud have rationalized that Robert was just being a father. But no. Sybil was also too worried about Tom being offended that she couldn't enjoy her family moments even when she was with her family. Point is I never saw him make an effort before her death the way she did.
Also, she coming around to meet him can be interpreted as her affection for him which she didn't realise, like the way u chose to. But I see a woman who was incredibly sensitive to ppl around her n not wanting to hurt them by her words or actions. And when she refused him, she felt obliged to be extra nice to him. And I think quite a lot of girls or guys do that. Also, if I remember correctly, some of those meet was coincidental. Not like she rushing out for him to meet him but trying to arrange a ride or was simply there n saw him n walked over to talk.

I was 18 years Old when that fool of my father found this bullshit of Shannara CHRONICLES that Poppy Drayton played in the role of Amberle three years After She played in a episode from Downtown Abbey right after Sybil died and he made me Watch Shannara CHRONICLE because he wont that i was obessed for Anakin Skywalker when i watched Rebels since i watched clone Wars and because he tried to made me Well and Is that because i shouldn't Watch Downtown Abbey and that i was tormented. Maybe tell at Maggie Smith if She Is alive with Michael Gambon about Poppy Drayton and Shannara CHRONICLES that was producted by those fools of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar six years before Wednesday or else i should kill them as Arya Stark did It with Argus Filch in game of Thrones
