    The size of the country should be an extra argument to build high speed rail! Europe is even slightly larger than the US and is covered in high speed rail connections. So why can't you? I guess because the American focus is so firmly on the automobile, you can't even think of anything else. Over here in The Netherlands for a trip I would consider, my bike, bus, tram, metro, train and my car in the last place. But at least I do have all those alternatives ...

    Isn't strange that the US is running behind in a lot of things that are already being done and enjoyed in Europe?

      Well according to the USA fanboys it's better to have Facebook, Meta etc than having a decebtly run country.
      It's all about priorities. Do you put the people first or a few huge companies.

    This high speed rail grid looks pretty good, actually. High speed rail is for very long distances, the intermediate and short distances need trains that can get up to speed and stop quickly, top speed is less important. Source: I used to be a Dutch Railways employee and we had different kinds of trains for long-range and short-range trains. High speed rail is more expensive, because the rails need to allow a very smooth journey for the same reason the people racing in that salt desert in the US will first walk over the part where they intend to race in order to remove anything bigger than a tiny pebble: at those speeds a bump can launch the vehicle. It also needs more careful maintenance for that reason.
    BTW, once a grid for high speed rail has been made, it becomes far more commercially interesting to use those train stops as a starting point for slower public transportation that covers the surrounding areas.

    From France, our first high speed train "TGV° was launch in 1981 and his commercial speed is 198 mph ( the speed record in special condition is 356mph).
    Japan and China have even faster speed train.

    I hope there is not only a plan to build it but also how to keep it at reasonable price so people are incentivised to use it. Just worried that after spending so much billions they might up the price to recoup the cost.

    • @Dqtube
      @Dqtube 27 днів тому

      The upper limit of the price is limited by the price of a flight on the same route. In the case of BW line to Vegas, they calculate with it.

      @Northerner-Not-A-Doctor 26 днів тому

      Price should recoup the cost 10-fold, the question is weather they are smart and calculate it to recoup within 40 years, or stupid and plan to achieve that result in 5 years.

    China and Japan definitely have the US beat when it comes to high Speed rail and as you have already seen Europe as well so the US is far behind when it comes to high Speed rail. And you should look at some of videos posted right here on youtube about China and you will be amazed and possibly will have your mind blown.

    As a Dutch guy, i hope America and Canada with Mexico included can build connected high speed rail systems.
    It would literally transform all 3 countries into a huge network of new markets.
    And hopefully in the future when Russia (Fingers Crossed) finally get its act together to connect Alaska with Russia and connect Japan along side it too.
    So it can connect Asia and Europe for faster trade and travel.

    As we continue to advance with drone technology, the USA is now introducing a new high-speed rail system lol lol ... High-speed rail should primarily connect cities and states, complemented by efficient public transport within cities, and conventional trains within states to ensure everyone has access to the high-speed network.

    The cars should be able to drive on and off the trains.
    Like the do it in the channel tunnel.
    I could see that working rather well in America. 😊

    Intercity trains run at 125 mph in the UK. To run trains at 180/200mph the track needs to have less curves and gentler curves and banked tracks on bends ,in the UK they developed tilting trains that could tilt when going round bends/curves to get higher speeds,not HST speed though,High speed rail lines are very expensive to build ,will people use them for rail journeys ,its quicker to fly with the distances in the USA ❤ .

    Ask China to build the highspeed railroad, they havo so much more knowledge than all engineers of the U.S. together and they are cheaper.
    See how England is struggle with highspeed railroad, the line get half shorter because the costs are too high.

    • @Dqtube
      @Dqtube 27 днів тому

      China is cheap because it simply moves people out of the way of an infrastructure project against their will. They don't ask or negotiate the price of the property/land. Which in countries where citizens are trading partners, not servants, can take years. In the US, they don't even want to lose the freedom to waste time in traffic jams in favour of public transport.

    • @user-xi6nk4xs4s

      Not because the costs are too high. The only reason it has been stopped is political.

      The UK spends more on consultants than the actual railroad. And that is by design...

    Aboveground rails are kinda dumb. Too much air resistance. Elon should build an underground rail network with magnetic levitation trains tbh.

      So you think the police are obligated to come serve dinner to people who forgot to buy groceries?
      Well, they aren't, and they are also not obligated to drive out to wherever you are to help you with a flat tire. That is what roadservice is for.
      If people start seeing police drive out to help people with flay tires, there will be complaints about how they are not spending enough time stopping crime.
