Just rewatched this with my gf, had a couple drinks and we were laughing the whole time. Def a good watch if you have the right group. And RIP Siskel and Ebert :-(
Even Mike Myers realizes this was one of his worst movies. After THIS misfire was released, the Theodor Geisel estate refused to ever permit any other live action projects, and no one blamed them.
“Maybe a part of (Mike Myers) was realizing while the movie was being made that a live-action Cat in the Hat movie was a bad idea.” Yeah, I always thought the movie should have been animated.
Americans won't go see animated films unless they're Disney, and maybe not even then unless they're CGI, and CGI would have defeated the whole purpose of animating it.
The film was such a critical and financial flop that it caused Audrey Geisel, head of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, to order a permanent halt on live-action adaptations of Dr. Seuss' work.
Thank Goodness! The Woman Came To Her Senses. They Were Trashing Her Late Husband's Work With Those Worthless Pieces of #$+!, I Guess A Lot Of People In Hollywood, CA Weren't Very Pleased When It Reached Thier Ears.
This was the worst thing Myers done. Worse than THE LOVE GURU. Well, this time you can't totally blame Myers--look what they threw him into. What a cesspool...
This movie made me frown. It has the bad movie crown. I wish this film didn't have any sound. I wish this film was not around, but I was stuck to my seat bound. I'd rather watch The Fox and The Hound.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters. I have it on DVD. Though I don’t like it as much now as I did back then. And I agree with some people saying that Mike Myers as the Cat in the Hat wasn’t as funny as Jim Carrey was when he did The Grinch.
I'm so glad they called out that awful Jim Carrey Grinch movie. Both live action Seuss movies were absolutely putrid and insult the legacy of Dr. Seuss
and for some reason, a lot of people defend them. mostly because they grew up watching them and they can't take off their nostalgia goggles to realize how gross they are
Myers only agreed to make this movie because he was sued for backing out of filming a movie adaptation of his Sprockets sketch on SNL History would've been so much better with a Sprockets movie instead of this.
It should have been a four. It was a great movie and I never understood the hatred of it. People act like it ruined their entire childhood. Grow UP drama queens. 🙄🤦🏾♂️
XRJ92 well it is worth a watch if you want to see something crazy and stupid to enjoy, I give this movie a simple thumbs up (especially for the visual aspect similar to the grinch)
3:27 - Is it wrong that I actually kind of want to see a Green Egss and Ham film starring Jim Carrey and Mike Meyers? If that were to exist, who would be Sam-I-Am and who would be the nameless Tall Guy (Guy-Am-I in the Netflix series)? But seriously, if you want a good live-action version of The Cat in the Hat, watch The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, a show made in the mid-90’s by the Jim Henson company.
No I don’t unfortunately. One of the only positives about COVID-19 is that I’ve got a lot of free time on my hands so I’ll be uploading more vids real soon! Stay tuned!
You know, at least the Jim Carrey Grinch has its moments, and this film was amazingly terrible. The new animated ones are kind of bland and forgettable with the exception of maybe Horton Hears a Who.
I Disagree with their opinion on How The Grinch Stole Christmas. On The Cat in the Hat I'm kinda divided. Let me just say it's not a good movie at all. There are some good Cinematography, great Production design and set design. Most of the jokes are stupid and not funny. But still I don't think it's the worst movie I've seen because I've seen so much worse films than this. So I don't know what to think about this movie.
I can think of a million people who could better play this lethargic cat, You’d get a better pick by drawing a name from a hat 🎩 But the story they ruined, did they not read the book? They sold out to the hipsters of Hollywood who didn’t care how it would look!
Ebert I love ya, and you usually have great takes but this is not one of them, The Cat in the Hat is a bizarre comedy and is absolutely hilarious, I think critics take comedies to seriously sometime and this movie is a prime example
Thumbs down is too good for this film. It deserves a middle finger.
Just rewatched this with my gf, had a couple drinks and we were laughing the whole time. Def a good watch if you have the right group. And RIP Siskel and Ebert :-(
No
Where I lived, Cat in the Hat bypassed the first run theaters completely, and went straight to the dollar theater on opening day.,
Even Mike Myers realizes this was one of his worst movies. After THIS misfire was released, the Theodor Geisel estate refused to ever permit any other live action projects, and no one blamed them.
I'd take this over "The Love Guru" anyday of the week.
“Maybe a part of (Mike Myers) was realizing while the movie was being made that a live-action Cat in the Hat movie was a bad idea.”
Yeah, I always thought the movie should have been animated.
After this movie came out Dr. Seuss’ widow made it so no company can legally make a live action suess film ever again lol
@@ericfelds6291 Good on Her
With Martin Short as the Cat
@@frankbonini9128 I think Robin Williams would’ve been a great choice too.

When I saw this movie in theaters as a kid I thought it was a horror movie! XD
Stick with the book
@@Dim4323 Always do.
😄
You hadn’t seen many horror movies, had you? 😐
@@PurpleRain500 I've seen Alien and Halloween.
Play this at twice the speed and the dialogue between Ebert and Roeper is hilarious.

This was the worst thing Myers done. Worse than THE LOVE GURU. Well, this time you can't totally blame Myers--look what they threw him into. What a cesspool...
Personally, I think The Cat in the Hat killed Mike Myers’ career. Some think The Love Guru did that, but I think that just put it out of its misery.
On the bright side, Mike Myers has the Shrek movies under his belt.
This was some of his finest work. I’ve always loved it. The criticism of it has always been very obtuse and unfair.
"Even though I can think of a few rhymes for 'Thumbs Down'".
Why couldn't we hear those rhymes at least?
This movie made me frown. It has the bad movie crown. I wish this film didn't have any sound. I wish this film was not around, but I was stuck to my seat bound. I'd rather watch The Fox and The Hound.
Roger Ebert gave it 2/4 stars. It should be a half star out of 4.
Jesus Christ, Mike Myers went into Austin Powers shape, into Dr. Evil shape and into Shrek shape and lost his mojo on The Cat In The Hat.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters. I have it on DVD. Though I don’t like it as much now as I did back then. And I agree with some people saying that Mike Myers as the Cat in the Hat wasn’t as funny as Jim Carrey was when he did The Grinch.

Jim Carreys Grinch is amazing though. That movie captures the spirit pretty effortlessly. Cat in the Hat is pretty terrible though.
I love the book. Hated the movie.
Mike Myers was actually forced to do this role
This was Alec Baldwin’s worst performance as the slobby neighbor. We never needed him to begin with.
I can see why they didn’t like it. It was terrible
Myers only agreed to make this movie because he was sued for backing out of filming a movie adaptation of his Sprockets sketch on SNL History would've been so much better with a Sprockets movie instead of this.
Definitely.
Good underrated movie
Emmanuel Lubezki is the cinematographer on this film lol
His cinematography is honestly the best thing about this movie, some inspired angle shots and zoom-ins and very nice and sharp color grading.
He did the cinematography for The Birdcage, one of my Top 10 favorite movies.
So....yeah.
Roger gave this movie 2/4 Stars.
That's pretty damn generous.
@@rckblzr I gave it 0/4 stars!!
Same rating as GIgli
Two worst films of 2003 that Ebert thought were just average Joes.

If you grew up loving Ren & Stimpy, you'll enjoy this film. I love it.
I loved Ren and Stimpy. This movie still sucks ass.
I remember renting this at Blockbuster and enjoyed at age 5. 🤣
I disagree about The Grinch. I think Ron Howard did an amazing job with that movie. Never saw this movie though.
I agree with you on The Grinch. It's definitely better than The Cat in the Hat by a mile in my opinion.
XRJ92 imagine taking the worst moments from the grinch and make that the whole fucking movie. Congratulations you just saw Cat in the Hat.

The Cat In The Hat was horrible!
Neither one of the live action Dr. Seuss films worked.
Jim carry was good has the grinch
This movie is awful. I remember seeing this movie at the theater and I hated it while my friends liked it.
Shame Cat was too ahead of its time, they didn’t get it…

More like stupidly enjoyable yet visually whimsical/delightful, plus this stupidity is much better than son of the mask
The jim carry one is a masterpiece.
Kat in the hat is targeted at kids only. My kids liked it so I guess that’s all that matters.
Hate me if you want, but I like this movie.
I agree with you. I actually liked the movie as well, lol
Love that movie. The hate it got was unnecessary and stupid.
Believe me:
No, it wasn't.
3:10 YOU don’t want to see it, Ebert! Don’t fucking speak for the rest of us!
At half speed they sound drunk.
