    I have a box full of these baits but can not catch enough fish to gain confidence in them. I mostly fish clear highland reservoirs without grass. Dt 6 or rock crawler does way better. You got me wanting to give it another shot though. You explained how to use it perfect!

      Yeah the lakes like you described those two options do really well! There is still a lipless bite but it maybe more timely and area oriented for sure. Goodluck!

    You make some good points. I mainly fish for walleyes and here are some things I have learned about cold water (I live in the mountains in Washington... it gets very cold here). The angle of the sun is low in winter, so mid-day (when the sun is at its highest) fish will come up shallow to warm up before feeding... which takes energy. Many fish feed only once every week and sometimes longer than that. But they don't all do it the same day so there are always fish to catch.
    Look for the vegetation. If it is brown, it is decaying and that takes oxygen from the water. If it is still green it is still making oxygen. There will be no fish in the brown stuff. The sun will warm south facing banks much more than other directions because sunlight bounces off of the water and warms the bank (unless its windy) If its windy the ripples will disrupt the light. Warm banks or rocks will in turn warm surrounding water. Even if that water is only 1 degree warmer, fish tend to be there. Especially pike. Often times pike will be in water so shallow the water barely covers their backs. They won't stay there long because they are vulnerable there (we have a lot of eagles and osprey here).
    Once the ice hits it cools the top of the water column. After a week or two the warmest water will be on the bottom of the lake. Get down there. S-l-o-w down. I personally fish about 1/4 of the speed you were cranking your reel in this video and I stop occasionally. But then I am not primarily a bass fisherman (I am not knocking your technique).
    Maybe this info helps someone??

      Yeah you made some great teaching points! Where I fish we rarely get ice on the water ….. which just happened this last week.

    Thanks for the juice! Lipless is one of my go to baits, caught everything from catfish to crappie on them 🤷

    I've caught some giants on those gusty cold front days just burning them as fast as possible! You probably get less bites but you get the right bites!

      I can say I have caught some of the bigs while reeling fast as well!

    I'm new with lipless cranks. Are these baits good casting from the bank ? I'm a bank fisherman myself. Always remember not everyone has a boat. Love the videos !

      I want to and plan to get bank fishing videos for the channel. Thanks for asking! They can be great from the bank. My only problem is if the bank is more shallow they can get hung up close to the shore as you reel them in. I typically wear boots that are water proof so I can get lures un hung too. That is your only negative with these when fishing from the bank.

    Just subscribed, great information I just purchased several lipless crank baits and eager to give them a try based on your knowledge. I live in Alabama so this time of year it can get cold. Great video

      I appreciate the feedback Jessie! Alabama I know has a diverse types of waters. There are a few of them that surely will give you some good days with the lipless. One of my former student anglers today smoked em with it over here. Goodluck to you! 😬

    I love a lipless. One knocker vs two tap vs standard rattle sound. What’s your go to in the winter?

    • @TheFishingCoach
      @TheFishingCoach  10 місяців тому +1

      So I will have two lipless on the deck. A standard and then a one knocker or two tap... mix both of them up to see which one is the winner of the day

      I assume you talking night colors white or bone when the moon is up and dark colors when it's not. I throw a silent one when the moon is up. Try a suspending or floating one when there's no moon and retrieve it slow. Give it a shot this summer and good luck Jimmi@@TheFishingCoach

    I'm in arkansas on Dardanelle.
    There's way more mud than rocks. How do you like to fish it with a mud bottom?

    • @TheFishingCoach
      @TheFishingCoach  10 місяців тому

      Great question! I mentioned millwood lake because they are similar in a way but I know they are still different. There is not much rock in millwood at all... so
      The flats with ditches and stumps would be a great target area. Spadra for example has areas where this can work. Also with the river system... the hard spot to look for also shell beds. I think I have heard grass is growing back in certain parts of the river but the main cover would be stumps.
