Very pleased with this set its such an improvement on the original albums sound with John's voice being prominent.
I really think the Lennon's should have given us all the option of having all the music material that's on the 6 cd set on vinyl as the Harrisons did with ATMP set.Cheers mate

Yes totally agree David, a completed vinyl box outside of the cube a la ATMP 8 LP box would have been better. I think this is something that needs to be uniform for all box sets going forward, that the Cd and LP versions are identical. Even the Beatles SDEs prior to Abbey Road were not complete for vinyl buyers
Tone, thanks for the on point review! All I can add is that I wish Sean and the team behind the Lennon remasters was working on the McCartney Archive series! I wouldn't want a $1400 boxset of each of the remaining releases not so far covered by the Archive series, but the obvious love and care that Sean and his team are putting into these is VERY refreshing. They are also giving value for the money with the improvements in sound quality and the like in my opinion. I just can't justify spending $1400 for music related items is all, but that is my calculation, others are completely entitled to make different calculations based on their needs, wants and desires. But, anyway great review mate! Cheers

Nice review. The worry is the hit and miss quality control at GZ's pressing plant. Andrew at Parlogram has done a piece on this vinyl version. His experience was very different. Leaning towards a cd version at the moment. Bang on with the audiophile rabbit hole. Use your ears to listen not your eyes 👍
Thanks very much Perry, glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah I saw Andrew's video , he got a real rough copy, although he didnt tell us whether any of the marks on the record affected the playback. Mine was really good and in general have been lucky with the GZ stuff so far. If you're concerned the CD is the way to go but UMG will always exchange defective copies of vinyl

Incidentally going back to a previous message I sent you where I said I wasn't sure about getting this Mind Games release, I opted instead to concentrate on searching for the 1970 McCartney Deluxe box. Always appreciated your reviews, Tone. I have been hearing of pressing quality issues of the LPs with various scuffs and scratches, I am perfectly happy with the CD/BluRay Box. The Cube is a bit too rich for my tastes, abt $2499 Canadian (Yikes!) . I am interested in hearing how the bonus songs are presented on the Vinyl set and how the special discs sound

I did see that Andre from Parlogram got a rough copy of the vinyl but mine was absolutely fine and Ive not heard anyone complain on my channel about getting a bad pressing but I guess it's a bit hit and miss and luck of the draw. Glad to hear you are happy with the Deluxe box . In your last sentence are you talking about the vinyl albums in the cube?

Couldn't agree more about the sound...lets be fair the original wasn't a great sound but I still loved it as it was what we had. This version just sounds so much better and to my ears at least.....not tinny

I missed out on the One Hand Clapping EP, just having the CD version, but with the 6CD box I did get the full versions of the tracks you mention. You win some and you lose some, I guess. Presumably, a vinyl time issue?
The blank tracks on CD1, I heard were something to do with the games/puzzles. I read that there is some text on the last blank track on the ultimate mix CD that says "Yes".and that ties in with something else. It has been a bit quiet regarding the puzzles within the box. I guess no-one has worked them out yet or are keeping quiet as they want to win the Nutopia Embassy limousine prize. Or did did I dream that bit about the car!
Thanks for the video. Nice to see what you get in the vinyl edition. That 666 poster seems to be something you miss out on with the CD sets. I'm not too worried as I have ordered the standalone book and you point out that the content appears there. Will have to wait a while, but that's OK.
Spent yesterday trying to find the hidden tracks. Complete failure with the CDs. None of my players will find them. Did manage to play all of the audio tracks on blu ray though. Have still found the two video tracks though. I suspect I will be able to get one of these as it appears that you have to wait a while on the blu ray 1 initial menu and it will appear. Sadly it looks like the Make Love Not War demo video can only be played with a blu ray equipped PC which I do not have. Arghh! A bit frustrating with these hidden tracks for many, it appears.
Yes it seems to have reverted back to CD containing the extra material whihc I guess is how this series has been all the way through but in my opinion its about time they started making the vinyl and CD boxes uniform containing the same material like the George camp did for ATMP. The Beatles have now started doing this as well but it took until the Abbey Road SDE to do it.
Yes I suspect space issues on vinyl is the reason why the last 2 tracks have been edited.
Must admit, Im not one for all the games tbh in fact I have always hated board games , well at least since my kids insisted that we play 'Dont Wake Dad' over and over and over again. I hadn't heard about the Limo thing.
I also dont have a blu-ray for my computer but I do have a blu-ray player so will investigate the videos. My Cd player doesnt want to know about the hidden tracks either but I heard Mazzy say that Sony CD players work for the hidden tracks.
Just in case anyone is confused. I did make the prize limo thing up. No idea if any prize is offered! I'm not all that sure about what the puzzle is! I'm not a great one for games either. I'm just a bit surprised how little discussion there seems to have been about it. Mind you it may have something to do with the prize car they are offering! Sorry, I'll see myself to the door!
I'm sort of with you on the matching contents on the different formats. It does seem a bit off to make people buy all formats to get all of the music. I have stopped playing that game. Paul seems to be into all of that massive number of variants, but as a result I now just buy one of his releases and so it has had a very negative affect on my collecting his material. One Hand Clapping is a case in point. I just have the CD. I have no intention of buying the vinyl, that I would not play just to get an EP that could easily have been included on the CD. I'll just put up with the fact that I do not have those tracks. That may be just as well. If I had bought 73 copies of Egypt Station then I would probably have to make an appointment at the doctors for treatment!
I wonder when the next Beatles announcement will be. To be honest, I did not think that the Red and Blue reissue was a winner. I did not get the idea of it at all. Hopefully we can get back onto deluxe editions of individual albums.
@@davehealey2397 to be honest Dave , I dont think Paul gives a toss about variants of his albums, those sort of decisions are made by his marketing team who believe they know what we want ...or maybe not. Personally dont care about how many variants there are, I will only buy what I want, when I start to care is when there is different music on different variants forcing me to buy more than one. If there are 15 different colours, I will buy the one I like best safe in the knowledge that Im not missing any music.
As for the next beatles announcement I think it will come in the autumn and yet again Ive heard it will be a curved ball. The chances of it being Rubber Soul are very slim I hear. I hear it will be something from 1964 but not AHDN or Beatles for Sale ! Just rumours of course but we'll see
I'm with you on buying what you want. I'm not sure that Paul has no control at all. If it shows him in a poor light, surely he must have some right to comment.
Anyway, Beatles? Interesting comments. Would be a shame if they stop the album specific releases. I think that the Red and Blue issues were not well thought through or presented. Seems to have fouled up a sequence that was working well. The McCartney and Harrison deluxe editions also seem mired which is a great shame. Not convinced by the year based approach, but will be interesting to see what appears. Seems like they missed the boat with that approach. As you said, it would have made more sense going back to the beginning, which would have been the way to go. Presumably they are on an American invasion tack, maybe? Who knows? Hoping for a good outcome.

@@davehealey2397 On Paul's control, I guess its similar to owning a dog and barking yourself. He employs a marketing team at MPL , they are the marketing experts and he is the musician. He would expect the marketing team to have done the market research and so they are advising him that issuing coloured variants is something that fans would like to collect and to some extent they are right. its not for everyone , of course but some fans do like collect all these coloured variants .
I dont think they will stop the album specific remixes but maybe the next one will be 1964 box , that may or may not include remixes of the 2 albums that were released that year and maybe something to celebrate the arrival in the US. I think the Red was better received than the Blue because of the remixes but the Blue only has about 3 remixes that we hadn't had before. but generally their whole approach to this series has been scattergun - dont forget they have skipped over MMT and YS ! Hi Tone. another nice unboxing vid featuring the 2 lp set. The shrink removal using a plectrum is a bonzer idea and unlikely to damage the sleeve.You are so right in what you say about your ears being the judge of what sounds best...fed up of WAV graphs and all that sort of guff myself. Will listen to the second cd this week and see how the timings are. on kast 2 tracks. Cd1 of the two disc set is rather odd in thst it has the full album and then tracks of silence up to 99 on the countrt of around 25 to 30 seconds in length. Never seen that before. Hope the weather holds for more alfresco vids Tone.

I have had the timings of the last 2 outtakes confirmed now and they are the correct timings on the CD meaning that CD buyers have the full versions and not the edit like the LP. Glad you agree about the listening experience that only what you hear is important - listening is not an exact science depicted some people trying to make it into one. I did mention the 90 tracks ob CD1 in my review video of the box set - it weird . 12 normal tracks as per the album then 78 24 second tracks of silence - no idea why - I think it's a mind game. 😂

Hey Tone, just finished listening to my 2 pc vinyl set and was happy to say mine was perfectly flat and very quite. I listened to a review from someone that said their copy was very noisy so was very relieved that mine was good and glad yours was as well. I have listened to the 2 CD first then vinyl and now will give the 6 CD set a go. I never compare CD to vinyl so to me it's a completely different experience. Both have sounded wonderful to me. Also I have no opinion on the edits that Sean did, I like it all. On the 2 CD it says MC at10.54 and YAH at 6.03 Take care Tone!

I ordered all three incarnations, the deluxe box, the 2 CD and 2 LP set and I love all of them. I have just checked my 2 CD set and you are here does clock in at 10:54 and Meat City for some reason clocks in according to my PC at 6:05, and it's the same for those tracks on my phone and my I-pod. The Double album is great and you are not on your own here with the flatness of the vinyl, and yes I found I had to crank the volume up to some degree, and I had no surface noise between the tracks. My only gripe and this goes for all the CD's as well is putting the track listings on the very edge of the disc's and the label on the vinyl, so with me being a blind as a bat without me glasses, even with them on I find it really difficult to read. On the vinyl would it have hurt to put either 1 or 2, or A and B on the labels? Aside from that I'm really pleased with the remixes, and the outtakes. On the box set I'm really enjoying the Raw Studio Mixes, Meat City being one track that really stands out for me on this. What I will say as someone who loves his vinyl. I would at some point in the future like to see the 7 disc vinyl set that is exclusive to the Cube, be made available as a stand alone box set, that is one that I would buy. But I am really pleased with what we've got here. I'd go so far as to say that this is now the benchmark for all future box sets by any artist. Mind Games truly does lead the way.. So glad you found the guitar pick a useful way of opening vinyl, a lot safer than a box cutter for both fingers and the album....
Hi Terry, thanks for confirming the timings on the 2 CD version for me. Im glad that the full versions are available to those who bought that version. Thnaks also for the guitar pick tip, worked a treat. Glad your LPs are flat and quiet too, that is always a bit of a lottery with the CZ pressings. I agree about the labels , better identification would have been handy , and I am totally with you on the eye thing, even with my glasses it's a struggle. Of course the quick way to identify Side 1 on both these LPs is to look for the very narrow track band nearest the label (Nutopian National Anthem). Foolproof and we wont strain our eyes.😂 I also agree that a vinyl set for everything in the CD box set should have been done rather than just having them in the Cube. Sean said the inspiration was the ATMP Uber box but Dhani also put out the 8 LP version of that album as a standalone for this very reason. A trick has been missed here I think. Glad you are enjoying everything you've ordered mate and also agree this is the benchmark for box sets especially album centric ones. Cant wait for Walls & Bridges now 😂

Yeah well, this was the one I ordered along with the Deluxe version when it was announced. I cancelled the box set when I was sent it from the Lennons but still kept the vinyl order. They are invested in John and I get that..

Hi Martin Whilst I am listening to your views ,I dont agree with all you say here, which h is ok , we all have opinions and they are all relevant . Yes we are invested in John's solo career but why wouldn't we be? This is no different from the fans of any other artist that might go through a dip. We are always waiting for a return to form. Cant tell you how many Elvis Costello or David Bowie albums I own or even as you quote Dylan who has made some absolute stinkers.
POB and Imagine are head and shoulders above everything else, I think that much is agreed, but that doesnt mean there isnt great stuff lurking on those other albums.
STINYC, why do we want this to come out as an ultimate mix? Because there are only 8 Lennon studio albums and therefore we cant afford to lose one or have it cancelled. It's part of the story, a story that has ended. The story of this albums tells where John was in 1972 even if the place he was at is not a good place. New York City is a great song, so is Woman is... Yoko's stuff has its moments my deep Dive review view on this album reveals more.
Mind Games - my advice to you is give it another go. It is stacked with great songs with really strong melodies and brilliant musicianship - what's not to love? I also thought this was a mediocre album at best for years - not any more. Most of the ballads on this album would fit on Imagine and there are songs here that are better than songs like Solider, It's so Hard, Crippled inside, oh Yoko on Imagine - yet imagine is good right?
Walls & bridges is just a great album start to finish with maybe a couple of weaker songs but mostly great stuff. I dont need to go on album by album but it's enough to say there is something great on every album.
John was the driving force in the Beatles in the early days, the middle period to the white album genius is shared but after the White album, the genius is all Paul's.
Like I say opinions are pretty meaningless and it's unlikely I or you will ever change anyone's mind about anything no matter how loud or how often we shout. As for Floyd, I own Meddle to the Wall and will never listen to any of them again. Apart from the fact the Waters is senile antisemitic buffoon, their music sends me to sleep these days

As far as I’m concerned, Sean removing instruments that he doesn’t like is sacrilege and he has completely destroyed Tight A$, Freda Peeple and meat city with poor remixes. I will stick with the 2002 version.
Seriously? Destroyed? Well we all hear things differently so tell me which parts of those songs you are missing as I'm not aware of anything missing from those 3 songs? Are you not enjoying now being able to hear the guitar riff on the intro of Tight A$ that has been buried in all other mixes including Peter Cobbin's 2002 mix. Cobbin's mix is so top-end heavy throughout in my opinion. It was an improvement on the original but that was 22 years ago, things have moved on now. For the record, Paul Hicks did the remix not Sean Lennon.

Hi Edward, yeah obviously POB and Imagine and head and shoulders above any of the other Lennon solo albums, but this mix for me, reveals that it's not the mediocre album that I thought it was for years. Packed with great melodies throughout and some outstanding musicianship
