I believe this is my first time watching Dimash perform on the Singer and you all warned me it was going to be amazing!

It was because he didn't win that the show got many complaints. So the next year they opened it up to many singers from the west and Jessie J. won that competition, when it should have been KZ Tandigan from the Philippines that should have won. Anyway everybody knows who should have won in 2017........Dimash.

Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas.
The man who raises his fist in the air at the end is Dimash’s father. He came from Kazakhstan to support his son. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed.
I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional.
BTW the audience is also the jury.
During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰.
I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. I think what's happening today in the world worries him a lot.

As far as I know, on this channel there are no copyright issues and there are also English subtitles. And I always recommend switching them on. In some it is important to understand what the song is about. There are a lot of beautiful, sad and awesome songs to discover. I can also highly recommend the videos from the Gloria Wu channel because they show a little more of the scenes behind the scenes and there are also subtitles from the competitors, some of which are really funny.
Another performance also from The Singer is Daybreak.
I highly recommend you to watch the version with the story behind on the Gloria Wu channel first and then the one from his Bastau concert. It was the 8th performance of this competition. I don’t think there are copyright issues, because the videos on this channel are already edited and there are English subtitles.
This song tells a very sad but true story. You really have to watch this with subtitles. It’s really important to know what the song is about.
In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. I heard him say in an interview that it was very painful throughout the song, that his throat feels like shredded glass but he didn’t want to disappoint the people who stand behind him and so he pulled himself together and went on stage. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. He made very good friends there and many friendships still exist today. After the performance he lost his voice again.
It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it.
The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. So emotional and heartbreaking. Maybe you can do both together. Many reactors do and so you can see the difference between this two performances. If not, it’s really important to react to The Singer first.
In both versions I always cry my eyes out. I don’t know why I have to cry more. Because of the story or the fact, that he was in such pain and performed anyway because he didn’t want to disappoint the audience. Both version were in the same year 2017.

What I love about the Chinese competitors is that they don’t behave like competitors. Everyone wishes everyone luck. Everyone watches the other’s performance. Clap, sing along. In my opinion, no one begrudges the success of another. They might not have taken Dimash seriously at first, but that quickly changed after SOS. Through ist honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly. Contacts that still exist today. Especially to Terry Lin. Just for fun, Terry adopted Dimash and Dimash named him Papa Lin. Do not be fooled. Terry is older than he looks. He was 50 years old then. They performed together on stage and sang Dimash’s song Unforgettable Day together. They visit each other when they can and send each other birthday greetings. Thank you for your interest (if you’ve read it this far). You may want to see, or even react to, videos that were filmed behind the scenes of the competition. They are very interesting if you want to get to know Dimash from a different, more private side. And they’re pretty funny as he doesn’t take himself too seriously and he’s always joking.

This was the second show of The Singer competition. Dimash had a whole week of women throwing themselves at him everywhere he went. It is natural that this show would be a bit cocky/playful as he adjusts to his sudden fame. I love his version so much better than the original done by Vitas. I feel he better represents the Wind howling at the cabin door. 🎶🤘💜🤘🎶 Funny but I prefer the Russian audience reaction and wish we did that in North America more. Jumping up after the performance is fine but here, no gives a shit about the singer or others and noise occurs constantly during a performance. The audience are the judges, the people backstage are other contestants. Original singer does 1 key change but Dimash does 3.
That older good looking guy they showed a couple time in the dark and that did the fist pump at the end..that was his dad…

I don't know what songs have you react but Stranger (2021) is one of the best stage performances to me, it's magical. another is The Love of Tired Swans, the video is beautiful an so on

Yaaaaahhh, nice to see you back on Dimash's reaction journey. Fun performance. It's funny and I really like it when I see the expressions of the judges and the audience 😂
More to add, during the third modulation when he did the staccato notes, he did that because people had accused him of lip-syncing the higher notes. In case you might not know modulation is when you change the key or base note of the song. Dimash raised the starting note of the chorus 3 times. Say it started in key of F, his next modulation would be to start the next lone of the chorus on F# then G, and finally G#.
As far as audiences go each culture shows its appreciation differently. Also situations change the response. You will definitely not get the same response at the end of an Operatic performance as you would for Motley Crew. If you ever watch 'Forestella' from South Korea in front of their audiences we watch and go get up clap your hands these guys are great!!!! That is not how it is done there among the older people it gets better with younger audiences. Me I just worry about my response.
