"Don't you understand, the only thing I'm good at is riding this bike!!" -Cru Jones One of my favorite movies ever and it still motivates me to this day! The soundtrack is killer too!
DapperDan Man lmao!! You pretty much named my favorite movies as a kid. Would have to add karate kid 1 and back to the future. Maybe throw in space camp and teen wolf1. Oh yeah then there was that crazy movie solarbabies
Yeah The coming attractions to Home Video Add came on when You pop The Tape In.Then The Tri-Star Picture Logo Add comes. Then The Awesome Break The Ice Intro.😎
I was one of those kids who rented the VHS over and over. I was able to share it with my daughter a few years ago and was thrilled that she loved it. Such a fantastic movie! I miss the 80s so much.
Awesome movie. We wore out the Rad VHS movie at the local rental store. A few years ago, I purchased the book and had Bill Allen sign it. Still one of my favorite autographs. Excellent read, too.
It is a good read! You also then have a copy of my work, that’s my cover photo of him, in Eddie’s back yard, the day we recorded the Rad: Behind The Scenes audio track. Even Bart was there that day!
I rented Rad every damn time my parents took me to the video store. Drove them absolutely crazy!!!! Great guy, great movie!!!! "Let's walk this sucker!."
my sister was a lot older and she would make me babysit her kids some nights after i got out of middle school etc. and i would say only if you rent rad. so her kids. my nephews and nieces. they all know all the words from rad. they were so sick of it that when she said i was coming over to babysit they were like oh no not rad again lol. i am 44 and i still ride bmx and make bmx videos on youtube doing oldschool flatland. such a great movie
very cool. if you go to my vids and see my featured one it is called rad bmx tribute. i redid the intro to rad and it is pretty fun. i do tons of bmx vids in the summer. snowboarding in winter etc.
RAD had the best casting, the best directing, the best story, and the best soundtrack. 30 years later fans are still emotional about it and for good reason. I discovered it in summer of 1994 at the dawn of my teens when I watched it over 150 times. Hard for a boy to forget it after that. When watching it, everyone is Cru Jones and is madly in love with Christian. :)
Ive rented this movie so many times as a kid. I wore a lot those tapes out. Litterally having played them for up to 16 hours at a time. And who remembers recording the songs from the movie on to cassette. Im Guilty. Lol
Johnny Cade( I'm 65 years old and I still love that movie!!! I think about it all the time!!! I wish they would let it be on DVD( Blu-ray) that is so not right that won't do that!!!!! actually it's just plain bull s**t!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember when RAD came out and I never got to see it back then......Years later me & a friend of mine were talking about it bc of the song (Send Me An Angel) believe it or not, I'm just now seeing the movie a few weeks ago!!!! LOVE that movie 🎥!!!!💯💯💯💯
Rad has the biggest rating discrepancy on Rotten Tomatoes. And we know that if the critics at RT say its bad then its actually a really good and entertaining movie. Easily one of the best, most iconic movies of the 80's.
saw it on HBO as a kid and as a young bmx rider I loved it.I saw it on vhs in acme not long after for 5 bucks I rode my bike to my grandpops work got the 5 bucks and bought it.I was the man all my friends came by to watch it.
You guys were the biggest star in history, I'm glad i was there in 1986 as I was 13 years old. I used Race, jump and tricks even I win or lose, Rad BMX was the first and best movie was ever made! I still love it and now I'm 47, I still have my own 1997 BMX with your #33 plate number on it!
Grew up watching it over and over, before and after every BMX session in the ole neighborhood. Rad times! Thanks, Bill / Cru and the rest of the Rad crew!
I saw this at the theater, I was 6. My neighbor managed a bmx track in MI. I rode the track for free and met pro riders. I miss the 80s. I have a chrome 1989 Haro Group 1C bike. Just restored it this summer. Brand new!
I caught an interview years ago and thought it was on dvd. I got an old rental copy on vhs. I grew up with this movie. I rode bmx in my town and more people remember me for that than I know. I had a group of people I rode with and we inspired the town. kids and peers had a positive role model. bmx sales went up just a bit for the local bike store. We were just kids with some rad inspiration. If me and my friends were noticed you had better believe this movie was noticed a hundred thousand fold.
My sister bought me this for like my 9th birthday. You we one of my childhood hero's as well as the entire sport of bmx which I also feel didn't exactly get the glory it deserves. Just goes to show how many people can't see the magic. It made it possible on them bikes. I hope you never felt like you were underated because you gave every 80s kid magic dude. Sometimes less is more. Quality over quantity any day. My kids also loved it. The world needs more movies like this again.
i watched that movie when i was in grade 3. i love racing the bike and free style.. i really love this movie. i will never forget it. this movie its made my childhood great of all time..
I forget which episode of Tosh.0 Bill Allen was on, but I geeked out! That was substantial for someone who also wore out VCR's and remembers AD990 brakes, Kneesaver bars, and HP48 rims.
Was my favorite movie years ago , still now 2018 just watch with my 10 year old kid , and it’s his favorite now, there’s something special on this movie !!
UGE fan. I’ve watched RAD a Bazillion times. I’ll watch it a Bazillion more times too. I rock the soundtrack, I have the remastered dvd. I wear a custom made red Cru Jones Helltrack replica hoodie. Kinda pissed nobody has recognized it though. This movie is awesome and had such a great message to all the young people who watched it in the 80’s.
Big fan of the movie! Being a part of me and only seeing 260 comments I feel obligated to say before recording this movie on VHS I watched it on HBO every weekend. 30 years later I now own a beautiful playing copy on DVD. Thankfully
The only movie I would watch 5 times a day when i was 4 till i was 12yrs old. My dad had to buy 3 rewinders every month cause of my habit of watching this very awesome and inspiring film.
Daniel Grace That's awesome. I'm from Adelaide too and remember when RAD was first released. I went and hired it but never returned it :) . Great times but man its hard to believe its almost 30 years ago... I miss riding my bikes more than anything...
It's crazy after all this time I find out Bill Allen was one of Brandon Lee's best friends. I never thought in a million years those two would know each other.
Loved the movie as a kid and I even once managed a back flip. Back in the 80's stunts like the backflip was something new, and I tried it with a lake as the landing. I messed up quite a few times before I finally landed it wheels down, and I never attempted it again.
"Don't you understand, the only thing I'm good at is riding this bike!!" -Cru Jones
One of my favorite movies ever and it still motivates me to this day! The soundtrack is killer too!
Rad was, is and always will be the best bmx movie ever,
Bill seems a really nice genuine guy , no wonder he was friends with the great Brandon Lee
Amen brotha 👍
As far as I can remember it was the only one, to bad they didn't make at least a couple of more movies like this
@@nickperry4464 He really is.
Yo Adrian

+DuckTalesWooHoo1987 Do you know why? I don't get it, they could rake in more money..
I guess whoever owns the rights just won't do it. It's complete bull. I would kill to have it.

Johnny Cade( I'm 65 years old and I still love that movie!!! I think about it all the time!!! I wish they would let it be on DVD( Blu-ray) that is so not right that won't do that!!!!! actually it's just plain bull s**t!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do more of these
Thanks, Rhys. I have a couple more to post. Trying to build up my subscribers so I can make something off of these to keep producing more!

We owned a video store when this movie came out… I’ve watched it at least 150 times!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🥳🥳

Daniel Grace That's awesome. I'm from Adelaide too and remember when RAD was first released. I went and hired it but never returned it :) . Great times but man its hard to believe its almost 30 years ago... I miss riding my bikes more than anything...
I still have Rad movie on VHS, wich I taped almoust 30 years ago.❤
The Movie Rad is opening in Theatres this Thursday, Oct 14, 2021. (one day only) for the first time ever to celebrate the 35th anniversary.
I was one of those kids that rented the movie repeatedly from my local video rental store.
Oh gosh!! Rad was my WORLD back in the day. Outside of BMX Bandits it was one of the only movies for us.
i always rented this one when i got to pick; didn’t realize everyone else did that too!
Get ready to break the ICE!.... epic intro
Carlos Maggoo the soundtrack was epic
Just watched the intro again...still gives me goose bumps!
we need a Rad video game...
The soundtrack to that movie was sick as hell!
It's crazy after all this time I find out Bill Allen was one of Brandon Lee's best friends. I never thought in a million years those two would know each other.
Of course they did. Allen was Brandon's mentor.
I watched rad so many times as a kid that my mom purposely lost the vhs
yes I really like this movie rent almost all time back then in 1987 as teenager.
and what a luvly guy! so unasuming and humble a real pleasure to meet him and his beautifull wife cheers bill keep up the good work!
I need to have this movie in my collection
This was my jam. I rode freestyle for years.
No other movie brings me to my youth like rad. I still picture the 360 during the paper route scene
Joe Brunzo That 360 out of the pool is the sickest move in the movie. Wished I could do it as a kid.
1:00 There us a Lou Diamon Phillips directing movie called Tao of Surfing from 1996 but the crew listings on IMDB doesn't have Bill Allen on it.
This movie was the outline for my childhood!!!
My sister named her first born son "Cru"
That's pretty badass.
Something I planned on! I'm going to spell it "Crew". Cheers!
Your sister sounds like a great human being cheers!
YES!!!!
When I was 13 years old my friend and I watched this movie twice a day for a whole summer
500 !!! DVD this damn movie already. Can I find it streaming somewhere?
Loved the movie as a kid and I even once managed a back flip. Back in the 80's stunts like the backflip was something new, and I tried it with a lake as the landing. I messed up quite a few times before I finally landed it wheels down, and I never attempted it again.
one of the best movies EVER!!!!! RAD then gleaming the cube... would love to see in 4k, BR, or a legit dvd
Bobby brown ... And Thrashin and Summer Sessions.
In 1987 when I was 7 my local video store sold me the poster of Rad that they had in their store. It remained in room until I left after high school
im going to have to get that book
Great little interview
i loved this movie so much. i was a bmxer for years and this movie is kinda where it all started for me. Go Cru!
I was born in 86 and this guys aged better than me
I think I saw this? I don’t remember 💯 % but I’m definitely going to make sure I watch soon.
Love the 80’s’
Will there be a remake in the future is what I want to know
It's Seargent Smith, and he wants to play!
I think he's an expert on bicycles. He was incredible with the bike.
I was one of those kid's that rented Rad from a mom and pop video store about a hundred times.
I love the song thunder in your heart from RAD
Daniel Briseno John Farnham. Aussie legend.
And send me an angel... Another Aussie classic...
We all love ya buddy! We grew up with ya
This was my childhood!!
My kids now watch the movie and have me make videos of them riding to the Rad music soundtrack.
Awesome Bill. I think that’s a Bell helmet? I want to find an old one and refurbished one. Any idea of the model number?
Never understood the non release on dvd seeing how it was released on laser disc back in the day.
Listen to the soundtrack in Spotify ,search Rad Sountrack" and relive your teen years
