      Yeah I'm agree. Ps or make-up shouldn't be a huge controversy imo (unless it becomes too harmful to the person, or being forced to do it). The reason why these topics always hot was because there are some people out there who like to pointing out idol's (or celebs in general) visuals. When the celebs deny or never pay attention to the rumors, that over concerned people talking sh*t about to the celebs. And there's also media or people who host a variety show that will make an "open iv" and want the answer, not considering about the people in concern's feeling.

But some idols are being turned into looking like different people from pre-debut, and then denying plastic surgery and it doesn't make sense. • @NoctLightCloud
      @NoctLightCloud 2 роки тому +49

      yes but you probably already had a high nose bridge (judging from your photo) and you don't deny it either. The joke here is that Koreans change their faces to features that are, by default, not Korean. Look at Jessi or Chungha: they are becoming less and less Korean looking. Show current photos of them to anyone and people would say they look like South East Asians, Islanders, Natives of some Pacific Islands, you name it - everything but Korean. Actor Lee Minho, Ji Changwook (he used to be SO GOODLOOKING before, I almost cried when I saw him post-surgery), BTS Jhope, Aespa Winter noses are extremely non-Korean, and so are all those v-line jawlines. Koreans have by default square jawlines, low nose bridges, round noses, and darker skin. (Find me any Korean child with a bleached skin tone like Dahyun, Taeyeon, IU, Winter. It is simply not the natural skin colour of Korean genetic.) And them changing that and claiming that "they grew out of it" is the ridiculous part. (Grew out of ethnicity-defining features?)
      You at least did not change yourself to look like from another ethnicity/continent and claim that you hadn't done any procedure.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 2 роки тому +19

      @@NoctLightCloud genetics within a given ethnicity differ a lot and some people just have uncharacteristic features, and by all reason, the idol casting process will favour them if these features are considered attractive. It would be foolish to claim that they all must have darker skin, since they're most closely related to North Chinese and Japanese, who also have a very varying skin tone. There's basically no evidence to suggest that Dahyun or IU have a bleached skin, and some to the contrary (though obviously evidence can be manipulated), and the number of pale idols is not anyhow out of the ordinary. Nose and facial shapes can differ a lot too. Next you're gonna claim that people of my ethnicity (southeast European) can't be blonde, because it's not typical - well it's not, and I'm not, but it happens, and lighter skin than usual happens as well.
      We don't usually see idols the way they actually look. Skin tones form a very distinctive line on the vectorscope, and editors habitually grab it and twist it brighter and less brown. So odds are the pale ones aren't actually pale, just a shade lighter than everyone around them.
      Which is not to say that there isn't a large number of idols who had substantial cosmetic work done, I'm sure there are.

    • @NoctLightCloud
      @NoctLightCloud 2 роки тому +35

      @@SianaGearz I agree with your last two paragraphs. I am also Southeast European and my mom and her sisters are all blonde and blue-eyed (which is kinda rare, but it exists) so why the hell would I say that? Don't put things into people's mouth like that. I have been a fan of Taeyeon since 2010 and what kind of camera technology makes her skin a few shades paler in moving (live performance, tv show) pictures, and only her and no one else? Deep fake tech, maybe? Idk I haven't seen her natural, 2010-skin colour for years now on any footage, thus I assume she has actually bleached her skin. Same goes for Dahyun and IU. Dahyun had the same skin colour as every other member yet she suddenly stands out in group photos as super pale. There is no way people only edit and photoshop her but no one else? I have lived in South Korea (luckily before Corona) and yes, "nose and facial shapes can differ a lot" but no Korean naturally has THAT high and straight nose bridges and v-shaped jaws, I am sorry. Or that is really pale-pale, like my Russian friends and me. (Look at North Koreans (although ps is also common there now), or at any 90s pics of Korean teens.) If you live there and actually see the naturally looking Korean, it hits you even more what the idols have done to achieve that look. Regarding the first half of your first sentence, yes, of course, I know that. I've also lived in Japan and the Japanese vary MUCH more in face shape and skin colour - they look like downright different ethnicities depending on where in Japan (e.g., Okinawa vs. Hokkaido - compare Namie Amuro to any Tokyo-born AKB48 member). In the end, it's their body and no one's harm and we shouldn't mendle, BUT the harmful thing to youngsters really is that the idols are denying it. (All of my Korean friends have major face complexes, some of them even cover their face 24/7 and say they want surgery while they look perfectly normal ("Korean") to me. It's soul-crushing and sad. There is no way that everyone there, even actors, have complexes and want to suddenly change their appereance, 5yrs into their career. It's systematic and unachievable, and we shouldn't support it.) These trends kinda give off the vibe of Koreans being ashamed of the Korean face. It makes no sense to compare Koreans to Europe as Europe is heterogenous while Korea is homogenous af, you can't get more homogenous than that unless you go to islands. Imagine a whole homogenous population wishing to artificially change their jaw shapes, nose shapes, and skin tones. (If I sounded rude, I apologize!)

      @@SianaGearz You are right, it can happen but is unlikley. If you look to the predebut pictures of almost every idol they look so different. IU had a darker skin than now, Hyuna, BP members, I think Dahyun too. The majority of cosmetics that they have, have whitening chemicals , that's kinda weird too but is part of they beauty culture.
      You talk about Southeast European, but I think is not the same as Asia, because you have more ethnic diversity than them.

      Note: I didn't intend to write this much lol but the topic is very nuanced & I had a few points to share cause I analyze alot of the time lmao💀
      I don't think it's a bad thing though. Not everyone who's had surgery wants the whole world to know nor do they need to tell it. It their own personal choice so whether someone talks about their surgery experience or not isn't the issue- it's people's reactions to it that is the problem. Yes people should be open about their surgeries but *only IF they want to* not because of demands of others pushing them to "admit" it. If they don't say so, it's their prerogative to do so & clearly a reason. Reasons you don't have the right to demand to know. Demanding any and every person who's had surgery is like asking them what their skin routine is; not everyone needs to know especially if that person themselves doesn't openly talk about it and is satisfied with the they have work done & it looks 1000% natural to their unique features. Did he/she have surgery or do they just have really great self-care habits or a dermatologist? Who knows?? but nobody let alone fans should care so much. In fact it's a compliment if someone assumes you had surgery sometimes because to put it simply alot of people's genetics are just that great that after phases of puberty and maturing and losing baby phat, even having healthier lifestyles than what's average, their features get sharper and more refined with age as they mature until they're much older.
      It's okay if people don't want to disclose their surgeries if they don't want to. It's not promoting a false standard of beauty by any means it's just them keeping their private business and lives to themselves and that's okay. What is the problem is people's high expectations to live vicariously through these idols to feel good about themselves. Acceptance of the possibility that maybe people just quietly went through procedures and they just don't want to talk about it cause it not as a big deal for them should be common by now but because people want to relate to celebrities so much to the point where they purposely find insecurities that match theirs to say "see they're insecure about this or that too see they can relate to how I'm feeling about myself cause they want through it too" and keeping attachment to that mentality & expectation is why people feel so entitled to know who had surgery and who didn't still not understanding that at the end of the day it's none of the public's business. I think people who flat out hasn't had surgery or only minimal changes that still look natural don't need to talk about it because most of their changes are so subtle. Even if it is subtle though or isn't it's solely and ONLY that person's right to talk about their surgeries and if they don't doesn't mean they should be respected any less by no means.
      If you consider a person exercising their right to not disclose their private matters as lying then there needs to be some reflection on whether or not you actually respect their boundaries & privacy. Not "this person lied about having surgery so I can't support them any more because they don't feed my entitlement to knowing allll their business & personal affairs". It's not your business to know unless the changes are so drastic to the point it's a concern. If that's not the case then it's not something you should feel entitled to have explained. They got surgery and live happily with their results so why is that not enough to just say ok and move forward?

      Thing is, it is generally accepted to debut underaged idols in SK entertainment industry. When you put these young idols into a high pressure environment, they have no choice but to conform.

    A lot of people in the comments have said they have no issue with ps, but just wish that idols would be open about it. I agree with that however there's also sth else that bothers me. A lot of public figures (including idols) get ps just because they get a lot of negative comments and/or they feel really pressured by beauty standards, not because they really want ps, but basically because it seems like the only choice. Sometimes they look just fine before the surgery/procedure and worse after it when they overdo it. People really need to think more before making such changes to their faces and bodies, because while they can be corrected, you can never look exactly the same again (if you regret the procedures). I wish people would stop putting so much importance on visuals, especially with idols, who are expected to be perfect, but are humans as well.

    These days companies use so much filters on them they stopped looking like humans (even in behind the scenes & such). The companies set the bar so high, not even their idols are pretty enough to go around without a filter.
    There was also a case were fans had a negative reaction to a NCT photoshoot they did bareface (they all looked gorgeous, just yes humans have pores and little flaws) calling it ugly and saying the director was silly/disrespectful for making them do it. It's crazy to me that people would ask for artificial versions of their beloved idols but apparently they think it does look better. SK idea of beauty is really something else.

      The most underrated comment in this thread.
      Cosmetic surgery started as a way to help people suffering from physical disfigurements such as burns and blast injuries. Now it's a cynical, very lucrative industry that exploits insecurities relating to "imperfection". The more that popular entertainers can be persuaded that their looks "aren't good enough", the more fans can be exploited to copy their idols
      Practically all of the surgeons are men. They are ultimately the arbiters of what women (in particular) should look like, not the paying client.
      And the reason we have this is because of a long history of image manipulation in the fashion industry, giving vulnerable people totally unreasonable and unrealistic expectations. Ignorant people blame Photoshop, which is a just a complicated and powerful tool for processing digital images (that I've been using for the last 25+ years). The real villains have been the image manipulators in the fashion industry - real people who want to sell an idea of beauty that is unachievable without surgical intervention.
      What gets talked about very little is:
      1. All surgical procedures carry risks. The risks from many cosmetic surgery procedures aren't minor. And when it goes wrong it is never reversible or properly recoverable.
      2. Cosmetic surgery for many is like a drug. One procedure leads to another, and another, and another... because "perfection" is actually unattainable.
      3. Surgically altered faces tend to age very badly, necessitating a lifetime of expensive surgical interventions in a losing race to pretend to look "natural". You just end up looking more and more obviously artificial.
      4. Cosmetic surgery is rarely the remedy for insecurity problems. It can and does lead to even more insecurity problems. A psychologist is a much better investment, and much cheaper... but obviously not as visible or fashionable.
      5. The point of the cosmetic surgery industry in fashion and entertainment is to create dependency and addiction. It's a totally unscrupulous and exploitative industry.

As much as I would love to think that it's their life and their business, I can't help but recognize that it's also what is influencing a lot of kids and teenagers, and failing to speak about it could potentially cause damage to the ones looking up to them.
    I also feel the same way about the extreme diets they have. Even though I know it's horrible, when you have teens comparing themselves to a person that is eating an apple a day and has gone under the knife multiple times, it's obvious that it will cause some sort of damage, because it's not clear from the get go what the idols have done to look the way they look, and they end up comparing their natural selves to something that the idols themselves couldn't attain without all of that.

And regarding the parents comment, I agree with you on that, but we can't disregard the power that comes with being a public figure and I believe they should be held accountable as well. If they can talk about eating ice or an apple for a week like they have done and know the impact that it could have on people, they can surely say what they had done. One idol I like got their cheekbones lifted a bit and it looks natural because their cheeks and jawline were already slimming down as puberty was ending. Their cheekbones would have been a bit more blocky but now they're perfectly round and that small change made their eyes pop more. I honestly don't care but I was just shook that they looked so different between eras. They have never spoken about it and I don't expect them to because they know that their fans have eyes and can see that something is different. 😂 No, I won't name the idol here or respond to guesses.

    Im an ELF and thus far i like that every member that has done procedures has been open about it.
    The only reason that i dont agree with plastic surgery is because is based on ideals or beauty standars that otherwise wouldnt exist if someone didnt invented them. Is sad to think that we are doing it based on standars that someone created. But the social pressure is strong so is mindset that we cant get rid of that easily.
    At the end if anyone is going to have a procedure is nice that they actually admit, or keep it private but dont blatanly deny it. The worst is when they deny it and then list a bunch of things they did to achieve it when in reality it was a procedure. Many young people follows this celebrities and they can easily get fooled by this claims and feel bad with their own bodies because they dont look like the people they look up on. on other aspects is insulting that they deny it when is so obvious, they do think that the fans are so stupid or fool to not realize it.

    I don't trust a lot of idols with looks bc South Korea is known for plastic surgery and most idols probably got it so I can't tell who is natural anymore. It's either Korean people have naturally nice noses or they get it done. Plastic surgery is fine but denying it is not good.

I don't disagree with ps but I do disagree with forcing them to choose to do it and debut or quit/get cut. There needs to be done kind of communication. I agree with telling the truth yes I did get it. We shouldn't hate on idols who get it done. That may leads to more emotional issues. These idols are beautiful.

    God some of these girls are natural beauties... and I personally feel like many of them ruin it.
    Whether it be lips plumped, a "little" nose work... it changes too much of the overall look.
    You can't change one thing on a face without changing the overall entire look. Some people's "pieces" fit together beautifully as they are... i stress this so much to women - if you change one thing, it could possibly ruin the whole masterpiece.
    I wish more surgeons would pay more attention and respect to the balance of shapes of faces, of what would fit on certain faces vs others, etc. Not every girl is going to look incredible with plumped lips or a "perfected nose". Their cheekbones, their natural cheek fat, the width & length of the forehead... these things must BALANCE eachother and ENHANCE eachother from EVERY angle... not just "oh let's put the so-called perfect nose on this face." That face may not hold societies definition of the perfect nose well at all. If you must edit it, edit it in proportion with everything else on the face.
    I'm a portrait artist that might be why I feel this way.
