- As Rinse FM reaches it's 18th Birthday we track down some of the people who have been around since the very beginning as well as the people who have contributed to making the station what it is today. We travelled to renowned Rinse landmarks to conjure up nostalgic memories with some of the original pioneers of Rinse FM.
In a series of short films in the run up to the Rinse 18th birthday weekend, we document key moments of our history. We pay homage to artists who have collectively shaped and influenced the UK music scene. From Lady ST and Uncle Dugs reminiscing on their very first years at Rinse FM, to DJ Slimzee's fourth-floor ASBO and we take you on a first hand experience into our quest for an FM licence.
We explore the musical, cultural and social impact that Rinse FM has made not just in London but globally.

He was a cold ass producer too, that's what I knew him for. I'm from the states and started listening to Rinse in highschool. His beats were cold!
This geezer is a huge part of why I listened to UK Garage + early Grime.
Geeneus is a b£llend who f_cked over Deopah/Barefiles and the entire Dubstep movement
Clocked the Sebbmann - Time vocal sample
u need to get some old rinse footage up
the peace of wire In the two holes under the electric meter 🤣
Turn eaches
this guy is of the many reasons I love pirate radio so much.. I do miss the pirate days.. especially the rinse FM days of 91.8fm and 100.3fm.. paved the way for so many artists.. a huge platform for pushing the UK underground music scene.. thanks to geeneus and the rest of the rinse FM family
Do you remember rinse when they first broadcast on 97.6 FM before 91.8? Big up Rips and all the Pressure FM 100.4 crew.
went to reigate in surrey to see some friends and there was a rinsefm geeenius cd playing as i walked in. had stuff like coki, n type and benga on. never heard something like it. ended up buying it off teh guy who had it for double its cost because i was worried i might not find one. took it home and played it to some of the hip hop djs i know and that was when our area started getting into dubstep. year later those hip hop djs were playing dubstep and stuff out all the time
And Sarah has sonething to do with it

I have this set with 13 MCs going back to back on Rinse FM where they clashed Kool FM live on air. EPIC!!!
@@Ihatepasswords2024 Bless up the name of the set is: DJ Target & 13 MCs (Wiley + Many More) | The Ultimate Jungle Rinse Out 1996 on Rinse FM
I think it's stupid how serious that police take pirate radio stations, at the end of the day you were a bunch of blokes who just wanted to do some live mixing, not make money from ripping off artists or advertising. You have came a long way from doing what you did so respect to how far you are now :)
this is amazing, you can see at certain parts geenus just smiling remembering the good old days.
I remember Geeneus, Wiley, Target, Trend, Fenton, Sharky, Riddler - all them mans were sick. Back to back MC on Shy FX Wolf and Helicopter. Dem were the days!
DJ Sharkey & DJ Stingray, MC Fenton & MC Mystery Major were known as the Million Dollar Team. You mean MC Riddles not Riddla. In 1997, I think MC Riddles was up there as one of the best MCs on the FM dial and he gained a big following.
them two white boys did a lot. respect
Pin Cushion their gender doesn’t matter either but i mentioned that too
Slimzee and Geeneus. Humble lads.
B Martin Originals!!
Slimzee was humble. Geeneus was sharp and savvy, he could sell ice to eskimos.
deep respect for this guy... pushin the limits.. never giving up... driven by music... shit is DEEP!
They were pioneers of that era and paved the way for today!!
@@TakeMeBackPirateRadio happy to see your reply and check my 7yr old comment...which I still stand by! Big up Geeneus and the OGs!
@@Left_it Indeed!! This scene and these legends have stood the test of time!! Big up yourself!!
by the end of 2020 i want to be listening to the pirate radio renaissance
Big up Rinse! Looking forward to the next episode!
Still one of the best things on UA-cam, I watch this every once in a while to remind myself that art is about art and not money. Big up everyone involved in rinse and throughout the whole scene for bringing punk back without even knowing it.
Yes I remember rinse I was a studio linger 😮 phone use to pop off hoxton back in 95 .long time ago ..big up beefy .stings be
You certainly proved your point. Big up to Rinse FM ;)
haha loved that bit about his mum. can someone explain how wiring the box lets them not have to pay. Why the fuck did Wiley snitch!!
No, in order to not pay for power to the equipment you wired it in to the electric box. DTI would shut the power off to each flat to find where the station was set up. Wiley's flat was the one unfortunately
Maximum respect to you guys and girls on your achievements over the past 18 years. It's a big look!
IKAY WAS THER RINSE FM G IS BIG DJ FROM BACK IN DAY . JUNGLE DON .SWEET GE FROM IKAY
"We'll stick the studio in your kitchen, cos you're not gonna be using your kitchen that much." Haha!
Fucking amazing man! Legendary!
It's my 18th birthday today, big up rinse tho
Geeneus is a DON!
nice interview
wow that was type of stuff people from the start of it all dont do on camera, just tell a story. snm Geeneus and other people from back ina day should do a small documentary series of video's like this. sick
The 1 person who disliked this is the old geezer who had his rugby interrupted.
They are few and we are many!!
My brother.
big up yourself bro! legend
interesting facts
big up RinseFM!
legend
Eastman vs Geeneus
Both legends!! East Man came from a different time to Geeneus!! You forget East Man started with Sound Systems and ran a security guard firm and was good at running raves. Geeneus wasn't just a station owner, he produced many big tracks and could DJ extremely well. A lot of people learnt off of East Man including Geeneus, but Gee was multifaceted. Respect them both.
They both turned out to be awesome producers. The Basic Rhythm stuff is amazing. Big up both.
wicked interview
they take it more seriously than people who illegally download music, which is crazy because theyre the people who really steal from artists
@BigDeann they are man, 18 videos from then to now of how it all started.
Nice 1 Rinse! Happy Birthday.
Next episode is being released Midnight tonight!
