All that smoke and no fire ? What up ! Seriously though, thanks for the info - the details that you showed are exactly what I needed to know. Thanks...
+MonoLake02 haha sorry for the build up ;) I do have quite a few videos of me demonstrating the hand drill. Really happy the video helped you mate! Bill
I will be giving the hand drill a go and your comments and hits have been very helpfull. keep up the good work. will Lords hit with the bamboo is also very helpfull.
If you have a bamboo dowel, even though it is classified as a grass, it is harder than all soft and hardwoods, except hickory and pecan. Bamboo has great cellular structure for shaving/rubbing up carbon dust, and a high temperature, so that you can make a coal from your fire board, and not wear out the drill. Lasts and lasts and lasts. Just need to have your fireboards. And if you want to make a fire bow, then other wood and string, and you are set.
+John Lord Thanks for the info John, yes I have seen bamboo being used many times with friction fire, never given it a go myself though so thats something ill try at some point. Bill
Thanks for this! Came just at the right time for me as I'm just about to start learning hand drill. I tried a while back and got powder and smoke, but also ended up with huge blisters like you mentioned! Your tips have given me more confidence that I will get there!
cool man Cody step over we've got another primative skills tech out good info man another cat that gives info on hand drill on you tube is wild U he got some excercises i thought was cool Peace Pops Bushcraft
2 minutes a day practise, for a couple of weeks. Ember isn't as big as bow drill. Tinder has to have more preparation. Blood blisters. And you wonder why bushcraft schools teach the bow drill? But good video to encourage folk to try.
Those videos of bushcraft are fantastic and brilliant and please film overseas trips and you got amazing UA-cam channel
+donna pratt Thanks for the kind words Donna, hope you enjoy the videos to come!
