The Drinkable Book is a life saving tool that filters water and teaches proper sanitation & hygiene to those in the developing world.
Each book is printed on technologically advanced filter paper, capable of killing deadly waterborne diseases. Each page is coated with silver nanoparticles, whose ions actively kill diseases like cholera, typhoid and E. coli.
Once water is passed through the filter, bacteria count is reduced by over 99.99%, making the filtered water comparable to tap water in the United States of America.
This filter paper will revolutionize water purification. It costs only pennies to produce, making it by far the cheapest option on the market. Each filter is capable of giving someone up to 30 days worth of clean water, and each book is capable of providing someone with clean water for up to 4 years.
I can't even begin to describe the feelings rushing through my heart and mind right now. This is such a brilliant idea!! This will save so many people!! I feel like all of a sudden the suns rays have broken through dark clouds to give hope. GO HUMANS!!! We can be capable of such beauty and kindness when we decide to do it. /bear hug to the planet
IamYou86 I love you. Keep up that outlook!
+Kamikazi Gorilla wow you're a stupid moron....
watch out guys we got an internet bad ass over here
Kamikaze Gorilla
Damn dude, are you serious? Be considerate of another persons outlook on life.
If only all humans are like this this world would be peaceful and everyone would be respected, but sadly that's just not reality is it? Nope it is just a fantasy which saddens me.
These are the people who are changing the world, and that is super amazing.
:)
Wow,someone demonstrates a helpful technology and nothing but criticism and negative comments. Some humans stew in their self created misery I guess. Kudos for trying to make life better for those who need it
Our view of others is typically a reflection of how we view our Selves.
water is love
water is life
I know a community in need here in the USA. You can test the effectiveness of this product in Flint, Michigan.
The fact that there are no links in the description is mindblowing. How disorganized can this campaign be when that is such a fundamental marketing concept.
This woman has done the best thing ever!
Simply one of the best inventions I have seen this year...
This has so many potential uses! Even just for things like camping, or etc. Everyone should have one of these in their emergency kits.
I'd like to see a demonstration of them using the filter on some of the actual water pulled from the garbage filled canal. It doesn't mean much when you use water from a US water system to start with.
***** While it's true that contaminated water may have a pristine appearance. I'm pretty certain the yucky looking water has all sorts of contamination in it too.
***** Silver won't help you when it comes to clear water filled with chemicals.
Fuck Channels H_2O is also a chemical (formula). Not all chemicals are bad for you.
HongXiuYing This filter does nothing for any kind of chemical contamination. A carbon filter will. Grow up.
You clearly missed my point but that's ok. We all make mistakes. ;)
wow! We need more projects like this one on this planet. Thank you guys!
Thank you for this innovation!
Gives me hope for this world we live in
#cleanwater Dr Theresa Dankovich's #TheDrinkableBook The Drinkable Book - Water is Life … BRILLIANT CONVERGENCE #socent #humanitarian #innovation
That is amazing. Thank you for you invention! The world needs this... You have done a good thing. God Bless!
The ingenuity of human beings never ceases to amaze me! That's awesome!
I always upvote clean water.
This is an incredible scientific achievement and I'm so glad it can help so many people by both educating them on safe water usage, and providing them with a method to purify their water. Love it!
Now this is an idea worth sharing. Absolutely fantastic.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life."
Now if only they could add a few edible chapters.
Phenomenal. Beautiful.
This is amazing!
Este es uno de los productos que si me atrevería a pagar miles de dólares para obtenerlo, exelente idea!
Having spent many years in India.....the problem with this and other water technology is that the people who need this....can't read any language, let alone English. You put this in their hands and they would probably burn it! The problem needs to be addressed on all levels, education, hygiene, sanitation, government. I would love to hear how they plan to implement this....it is a great idea for a quick fix as I see it.
I'm sure they have thought this through and will not just give it to them and let them figure it out for themselves. They will obviously give them a physical demonstration of how to use it.
OMG these people are not stupid, they have fucking PhD's. They will be right there helping people figure out how to use these books and to make sure they are using them correctly. Why go through all of this effort and NOT think about these possible obstacles? Common sense is really lacking in most of these comments.
Tech and design- love it! Great work, will donate.
Amazing!
Amazing...
This is amazing and will help so many people she should be so proud of her self! 😯😃
This is the kind of news I love to know about. Inspiring:)
This is by far one of the best things the human race has done in a while.
Truly incredible.
this is so awesome
This is the most amazing thing i've ever seen
Why can't this be sent to the residents of Flint, Michigan?????
Water is life
My mom : you hungry
Me : water
My mom : I love you
Me : water
This is a amazing feat that I hope will save many lives
I......LOVE......IT....!
This is great. I'd like to be able to get one of these books too!! Not just a bottle with a straw, or just the straw (which are great inventions too).
Great thing to have in any preppers bugout bag.
OMG give that inventor the nobel prize!
What a brilliant invention!
Love it. #Valuewatermore
This is an amazing idea. I just hope people make a good use out of it. Faith to humanity is restored.
Really neat idea cant wait for it !!!
Dr. Theresa looks like Debbie from Shameless haha, great project by the way
Great! I feel proud because the research part of Bangladesh was in iDE Bangladesh , PROOFS Project , and I am doing here as an Expert WASH, and facilitated the FGD session
god bless team working in this area
a civilization that cannot deliver clean water to the poorest, should focus on deliver clean water to the poorest but I think about permanent solution. this drinkable book looks fancy - it's so well designed all hipsters would have one for any money - but I feel like it's not the right solution, how much money will it cost to deliver it to everyone who drinks from puddle every year. Would you use it everyday instead having normal water source? I like you want to help and filtering puddles is some solution but it's sad that this world can't fix this problem building real infrastructure and solving this problems permanently.
erroid ...did you even watch the video? You think this only for hipsters? You think people donating money to send these books where they're needed most will cost more than financing clean water infrastructure for... the entire world? Seriously?
I'm not exactly an economist, but this book costs pennies to make, and supplies one person with drinkable for _four years._ I'm _fairly_ sure that's cheaper than building clean water infrastructure in countries that have none at all.
Graham Barth Indeed. The technology is being put out there in its simplest, most portable form right now, and its good news. We have a long way to go, there's no doubt there, but this simple technology can also educate and inspire improvement and growth within the infrastructure itself. I see this as a positive in all regards, and saying its just for hipsters is about as ignorant as one could expect from our happy little band of UA-camrs.
Graham: and did you ever read my comment? Madman: same here - I naver said it's ONLY FOR hipsters and I also naver said it's for HIPSTERS! I said it is so well printed all hipsters would like to get one. The design is just great and that's all. How did you figure out it is "for hipsters only"?! where is your LOGIC guys?
+erroid Great idea and purpose here. It attempts to educate (if the people using even it have literacy to read the instructions) and attempts to solve a problem. Why use a drinking book when you can hop a boat over the Mediterranean Sea and use a tap. This is an excellent bandaid on a pipe that is slowly bursting at the seams, each leak is a different issue. Realistically this a GENIUS idea and I wish politicians were as innovative the inventor is this is.
Amazing!! This invention is brilliant! And check out that designer! Whew, what a hotshot with brains.
It will be great if this invention is of great use such as distributing them free to those rural area, slums where people are in need. Educating people about the usage is also essential. This will be a saviour to a lot of poor people who do not have the luxury to clean water. Polluted water have always been a problem spreading disease within the slums or poorer community. It shouldn't be commercialize.
Such a wonderful idea!
I'm impressed. So smart !
In looking further into the toxicity of silver nitrate, mainly for aquatic life- have you devised a plan of disposing this hazardous material? According to UCLA Center for Laboratory Safety, Silver Nitrate has the potential to cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. If you plan to disperse this book, please consider the effects of what may happen after it is disposed or it could have adverse affects that are much worse than not having drinking water.
shhhh...you are going to destroy their fragile reality with smart questions.
Mrs B's article of the week
aye hahahhaha
aow?
Absolutely marvelous!!!
How much does it currently cost to make one book?
This is amazing!
Dude... THIS IS AWESOME
Simply amazing... bravo!
Great invention.
Marvelous.
Kids, This is a really good deed
superb concept!!
How much of the coating gets transferred into the water? I'm sure the concentration is very low but might there be long-term effects over prolonged use? Having said that, I'm sure any long-term effects do not outweigh the ability to kill bacteria. Sounds great overall!
Book and Water; food for the mind and for the body.
Amazing.
Absolutely amazing. Love it
This is actually a very smart idea😄👍🏻
i learnt about this book in my textbook
probably the only book i'd ever buy
That is awesome!
Awesome!!
I want one of these
so cool.. the things that people can create these days..
imagine just going somewere with a book then just drinking it
Amazing
Genius.
awesome, technology at it's best!
Water is love, water is life
As cool as I think this is, I was misled originally. I was really hoping to buy a book I could wring orange juice out of.
amazing
sounds like a step, hopefully forwards. i wish this project sucess
foarte tare!!!
It's also being printed in Swahili. Not just English
Awesome idea and concept. Amazing innovative product, but most people who need water, cant read.... Therefore maybe incorporate images into the book as apposed to writing?? Just a thought
The very first mention of *life* is associated with *water*
Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the *waters* bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath *life*, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
From the *book* of life, naturally
Incredible! I love this!
dang, that is so awesome!
My Chinese textbook has this drinkable book, it literally the same...
This is awesome. However does this include removing chemicals from the water? The bacteria can be killed but the water can still be toxic from, say impurities?
Perhaps this book can be coupled with charcoal (or include details on how to make and use activated charcoal) to remove the chemicals?
Very clever invention, and impressed if it works 100% Just curious to know how much it would cost. Cheap manufacturing price but where does the money go to?
Thats look great
This should be free for people who can't afford then cozy for those rich people.
Wow, this is amazing!
Amazing. Thank you!j
Brilliant idea, but one would think it would be printed in more languages than english.
+Beastly Theater I'm sure it is. This was just a video to introduce/educate people about the product.
It is !
How does this page have any dislikes? Heathens.
The filter paper sounds wonderful, but how many of these people will be literate? Don't know how effective the printed water sanitation guidelines will be without someone actively reading them aloud.
It's amazing!!!
You know, you could also just use concrete Boxes filled with sand to filter the water like it is been naturally done by the groundwater for millennias. The only downside of this method would be that these things are more difficult to transport. This method is probably not much more expensive, doesn't involve chemicals and can be created by the people who need the help themselfes.
You only need some low grade technology to create such a filter and the advantages of this method are equally as strong. First of all they dont get more dependant than they are now. For once these people would acomplish something on their own, without some rich country sending help that will one day will just expire.
We do not help those guys by sending them utilities that they dont understand, We make them even more dependant than before.
Have a nice day,
Create,
I think that the concept of the water filter is that it teaches people about the importance of safe water and how to avoid contaminating water. By doing so they are educating the people to become proactive in ensuring safer water in their communities. The way I see it is that the water filters are only a temporary start to safer water as the people who need the filters will learn about water and it's importance and how to sustain safer water within their own communities. When they reach that point they will become less dependent on the filters. I am definitely no expert on water safety and filtering but I am not sure if a sand/rock water filter will get rid of water contaminants such as e coli, cholera and typhoid.
Samuel Chan It does get rid of them and these kind of filters are beeing used and constructed by multiple communities in Haiti.
The effects on the water are great (as far as I know, I am not an expert, but they do tend to improve the overall health over time.)
As you mentioned the education of the people is very important, as some people even with acces to clean water continue to drink the dirty one as they simply couldn't care less.
But it is their life and their decision and as long as they live happy with it nobody can interfer.
I personally think the Biosand filters are the better solution, as they can be produced with low grade technology, by the communities in need themselves. They do need maintenance from time to time, as the sand gets dirty over time, but as mentioned can be effectued by the communities themselves, provided somebody thought them.
Have a nice day,
Create.

Create4Life You gotta love it :)
