When I was a teenager, I remember this black shoe store owner coming to talk to me and a group of other black kids about how black people needed to support businesses like his. He then went into this whole story about Jewish businessmen who built their own shoe store and how all the other Jewish people shopped at it and circulated the "jewish dollar", and as a result, they succeeded and became Finish Line. He then ranted about how black people don't do that because they want the nicest shoes, and I guess he was saying his store doesn't always have the nice ones. It now makes me wonder if the story about Finish Line was even true.

Wow, I haved used that "fact" in a pitch to get a grant. It's a useful data point when trying to campaign for money. People like a train that is already leaving the station.
