Hearing about your negativity culture at your old school, I totally get why you thought you had to leave. I promise it isn’t like that everywhere. Of course there are always the negative people, but the majority should be positive or you can at least find your positive crew.

I’m so glad you came back to teaching!! Teaching is hard, and you did the right thing putting yourself first for a time ❤. You looked so happy after your first day, and as a fellow teacher I know that feeling - something about being in a room of sweet little humans ❤️💗🫶

I’m an elementary sub right now and I seriously love it. I’m taking a long term subbing position in the spring at a school I love and would want to teach at (if I decide teaching is for me lol!). I’m nervous that full time teaching won’t be for me, but I definitely want to give it a try. I love the freedom of being able to pick my work schedule week to week and that I’m at different schools all the time. Honestly just being able to hang out with the kids and be the best sub I possibly can be for them is so rewarding! Schools need good subs right now, so they’re definitely happy to have you. I hope you end up at a school you LOVE!! 🤩

In the UK, most classrooms have a teaching assistant (TA). They are not the teacher, although they often do cover/supply for their class teachers! Their role is to do little jobs (displays, organising resources, general pupil support during children's independent activity, listening to the children read 1-1) as well as take small groups of children or children 1-1 to support them with specific targets.
We could not live without them!

Hi Madison glad you're back teaching. I'm supply teaching right now until I feel more confident and prepared to take on my own classroom. I was wondering if you could share with me your Information Writing Checklist?

I have the same timeline you do for teaching! My first year teaching was 100% virtual, then the second year they were all back in person. I decided to leave my school, take a break for an undecided amount of time, and here I am subbing! 😂 I've been doing it for the last 3-4 weeks and I love it! So happy to see the same for you and can't wait to see both of journeys 🤍

I’ve co taught for 2 years now and last year the person I worked with was more controlling (she had been teaching for 30 years) and I didn’t have much of a voice so it sucked. This year co teaching has been better because I get along with them so much more but I do have a desire to have my own classroom one day! Not having to do sub plans is a huge positive and having another adult in the room but there’s also negatives because that also means that more kids with needs (behavior or spec ed) are placed in your room so it can be taxing at times! My best advice is to get to know the person you could be co teaching with (if you were ever in the position) first to see if it would be a good fit!

So fun! Good for you to take it at your own pace... Best way to go about it!
Also, as you probably know, a good way to get a feel for the genuine teacher/staff dynamic is having your lunch in the teacher's lounge 😂 👌
The school I'm working at now has so much more of a positive vibe, yet the last school that I taught at, I resorted to eating on my own in my classroom lol. Huge difference!

I co taught. I was the sped teacher and it’s one of those things that if you click it’s great but if you don’t it’s more of a struggle than being on your own. If you do apply for a position where it’s a co taught classroom ask the administrator if you can have that teacher sit in the interview.

Daycare teachers typically work in pairs unless the classroom is meant for a teacher and a certain amount of kiddos. I always found it tricky to have or be a co-teacher as a daycare teacher, especially because it’s 40 hours a week with one other person in the classroom. Also, daycare teachers do not get many potty breaks, we might get one as some point in the morning and then when we go on break and that’s it. This is why I suck at drinking water.

The wonderful thing is that you have two years of teaching experience, and so you know what is expected in second grade in case you have one of those spur of the moment positions in which the teacher was not able to make plans. You will be able to build relationships with certain classrooms when you are able to work frequently at a specific site. Enjoy the freedom that being a substitute teacher has to offer. Take care and thank you for your video presentation.

I student taught in PreK & 2nd grade and when I was in PreK there was a co teacher in there and it was great to see how one set of extra hands can change the classroom dynamic. I am not a first year second grade teacher in a co taught room & it is so nice when you need to check out and gather your thoughts for a second they can step in, we split teaching each subject & like you said it’s great when you need to call off/leave early or go to the bathroom since there is a major sub shortage!!!

I substituted between by third and forth years of teaching. I enjoyed it a lot - being around kids but without the pressure that comes with teaching. Plus, I used substituting to hone my classroom management technique. I am currently in my fifth year teaching and plan on a sixth and final year, with plans to sub afterwards. I enjoyed substituting because it is rewarding.

I teach Kindergarten and have a full time teacher assistant. Sometimes I wish that it could be just me because it's just a different vibe when there's another adult in there watching me teach haha BUT I love having the extra hands for crafts/bandaids/etc. and to go to the bathroom whenever I want! It is also nice to not be stressed when I miss school cause I know my kids have someone that they know with them.

Aw I've always wondered what it would be like subbing. I'm currently teaching, I teach PE, def different vibes compared to classroom teaching. Love that you're able to sub and take it easy.

Hey Madison, I’m a UA-camr as well, but I also know how u felt being burned out. My dad is a steel guitar play and didn’t want to do it anymore, that last for a second and he’s still doing it at 83 years old. I kinda knew you wouldn’t stay away from teaching. But I’m glad ur back ❤

In big part thanks to your teaching videos I am a student and was also contemplating subbing while I earn my associates for teacher assistant and while doing so bring some income home. I was wondering if you could do a video on tips or advice, perhaps how subbing works, for us who are currently wanting to be a sub. Thanks for your videos!

Another good thing, is you get to learn other teachers styles of teaching. You learn something new everyday. So you might see something different that you never thought of doing.
