I have the exact same Sunridges Vintage 6.0 bat English Willow. Its edges are curved just as you show in the video. Suggest me if I need to knock it at least a few times or not?

Hi, I really love your content, but the volume always seems to be so low, so I have to turn up the volume so high, that if another video plays automatically after, my ears are bursting. Anyway, I love your work, but if the volume you record at could be increased, they'd be perfect. Cheers.
We have noticed that too. Last 9-10 videos are having audio issues. We are working to fix that as soon.

I like your videos a lot especially yours but it is untrue to suggest higher grade willows perform better than lower grades . Often the opposite is true. Grading is often purely cosmetic . As you said each piece of willow is completely different . You can get gun bats in low grade 3 s
Agree, In most cases its true however we also know its a natural product so at times we find bats with appealing characteristics but may not necessarly stand true for performance. Percentil is very low, one has to be very unlucky to spend more and not get the performance and as you said lower grade at times turns out to be a killer.
I agree to what you said , it is Just the earning and spending Capability in the US that is making people to buy 300-400 $ bat for fun ....Grade 2 bats are really good enough to play the level of cricket of people are playing in the US .Honestly I played in the UK for 4 years the Grounds are Crap here there is huge chunks of grass the only game that goes or works here is to see the ball and hit the ball , there is no value for a proper cricket shots . Imagine people spending 70 $ for knocking , bats regardless of the grad which have good middle has more value here .

More oil makes the willow stronger..🤣🤣🤣. Either you know about bats and why you oil a bat or you don't. Bats have a hole in olden days to pour oil..🤣🤣🤣
That hole in the olden days was a result of loading the bat onto the spindle to twine up the handle. Not for oil storage purposes. Newer bats don't have them because clearly the manufacturers have started to avoid the hole by putting a wooden enclosure at the base of the bat before binding the twine on the handle. This is precisely the problem with half knowledge.
Olden bats or newer bats. You oil them to protect the bat from drying up or absorbing more moisture. Period. Not to make wood stronger. Raw Linseed oil is preferred as it crystallises in the pores on the surface of the willow, thereby blocking more moisture and preserving moisture that is already there in the bat. It is a bit like varnishing your furniture. This is the reason why you have to still oil the exposed timber even if you use a scuff sheet.
And stop this nonsense about knocking in. About 10 to 15 mins on each edge, gently rolling them rounder and another 10 to 15 mins on the toe starting gently and increasing the force and another 10 to 15 mins on the face of the bat, mostly to rule out a softer press. That's it. I really question anything more. All this machine knocking and super premium world famous knocking are of no use but to over press a beautifully pressed bat and damage the performance of a good playing willow.
1 hour of knocking as above and 4to 5 hours of throwdowns in nets with good quality old balls is what's needed.
Just stop this money making knocking in service nonsense and all that. It is ridiculous and most importantly, even if I were to get it done by someone, it would be from someone knowledgeable, not someone who thinks oiling is for strength.

@@cricketmerchant not necessary that all bats have toe guards. Bats made for players and yip of the line bats don't have that hole and neither do those with a toe guard have the hole - if you remove the toe guard, which invariably falls, you will realise that. That purely because the way a bat is loaded on the spindle these days is different. You won't see a hole on top of the handle too like in the olden days. In the past, the bat was held in place by sharp holds of the lathe, which use to spin for binding the handle, and hence the hole. It was never meant for applying / pouring / storing oil
Also need to mention that grade of the willows does not mean good performance.
Even Grade 3 Willow can perform exactly like grade 1 Willow, only difference between is grade 1 is cleaner than grade 3 Willow nothing else.
